Important Notice

Enclosed you will find the MN POS installation DVD for Windows 7 and

Windows XP. Please keep all disks in a safe place in the Studio. If you

purchased a computer from Home Office, MN POS (and it’s training

program) has been installed for you.

If you are already using MNPOS and wish to install it on another PC, you’ll

only need to restore your most recent MNPOS backup file. Simply follow the

included instructions for restoring your backup.

If you are a new to MNPOS (first-time Studio Owner or converting from

Perspectives to MNPOS) you will need to watch the MNPOS training videos

online at

http://merlenormantraining.webex.com

prior to installing MNPOS.

Look under the “Recorded session” link to see the listing of videos.

Follow the instructions on how to convert from Perspectives to MNPOS

CAREFULLY. If you have a computer purchased locally, follow the

instructions on how to install MNPOS and then follow the conversion

instructions. Please ensure that you have the correct installation disks prior

to starting any installation.

page – towards the bottom) to find available updates for the program.

If you intend to run multiple MN POS stations in your Studio

(networking), we only recommend Microsoft™ Security Essentials. Go

to

www.microsoft.com

to download this full-service, free Anti-Virus

software. Other AV programs are known to cause problems on

networks, which may render Client machines useless.

A limited number of Installation and Conversion appointments are available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. Call the Help Desk for details.

MN POS™ System Requirements

Register #2, #3, etc. - When multiple registers are desired.

Register #1, which is used as the “Main Computer” - When multiple stations are desired. Register #1 - When a single station is desired.

A stand-alone system needs one available USB port for backing up onto a USB Flash Drive and one 56K Dial Up Modem.

*MNPos is NOT compatible with Windows XP Media Center Edition or Windows Vista

This Computer should have at least one available USB port for backing up data on a USB Flash Drive, one LPT port and one Serial port, one 56K Dial Up Modem. *MNPos is NOT compatible with Windows XP Media Center Edition or Windows Vista

Also required for each Studio:

pcAnywhere ™ (installed) or Internet Service – necessary for remote support.

This Computer should have at least one available USB port for backing up data

onto a USB Flash Drive. An additional 56K Dial Up Modem is necessary only if you intend to send customer lists from this station, update inventory or send orders.

1. Be sure to close all open programs and then insert the installation DVD into the DVD ROM drive.

2. The DVD may try to auto-play and if so choose the option, Open folder to view

files. Continue to step #5.

3. If you are not prompted by auto play, click the Windows Start button and

then click on Computer.

5 1. Double click on the DVD ROM Drive.

2. Next, double-click the server_setup file

3. The User Account Control Window will ask if you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer. Click

Yes.

4. Click OK on the message that setup will scan your system for needed requirements.

5. Click OK on the message Need to Install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 express.

7. The Setup Support Files screen will start and then change to show the SQL Server 2008 install progress.

8. The SQL install process takes a while to install. Please be patient, as this may take 10-30 minutes depending on the speed of your PC.

9. Once the SQL Install is done, the Welcome to the MNPOS setup Wizard will appear.

10. Click Next on the welcome screen.

11. Select I accept the agreement and then click Next. 12. Click Install.

14. When the installation is complete, select Yes, restart the computer now and then click Finish.

15. After the computer reboots, the Server Configuration screen will try to launch but you will get a message asking you to if you want to allow the serversetup.exe file to make changes to your computer. Click Yes.

17. If the Server Configuration doesn’t launch go to Windows Start button All

Programs MNPOS Server Configurator. Click Install Database button.

Then click OK on the message that the database is now ready to use.

18. Click Exit and you are now ready to use the MNPOS Training Programs. 19. If you were previously using MNPOS and only need to restore your MNPOS

backup file to this new Windows 7 MNPOS please follow the instructions on restoring MNPOS data.

1. MNPOS should already be installed and now you are ready to restore your data. 2. Insert the flash drive or media that contains the last backup of data that you did on

MNPOS.

3. Click the Windows Start button All Programs MNPOS Server

Configurator. Click Install Database. Then click OK on the message that the

database is now ready to use.

Note: If you have a computer from home office this might have already been done for you, if so click next.

4. Click Next.

5. Set a PIN to use during the restore of your data. Click Save PIN and now click

Next. Note: If you have a computer from home office this may already have been done for you, if

so, the PIN is 1212. Click next and use that PIN to restore the data.

6. Keep clicking Next until you see the Restore Database screen. 7. Click Select Other File.

8. Locate the MNPOS backup file that you with to restore and click on Select.

If MNPOS is installed on your PC, you are ready to start the conversion from Perspectives-to-MNPOS.

1. Insert the flash drive or media that contains the POSALL backup file from Perspectives.

2. Click the Windows Start button All Programs MNPOS Server

Configurator. Click Install Database. Then click OK on the message that the

database is now ready to use.

Note: This might have already been done for you, if so click next.

3. Click Next.

4. Set a PIN to use during the restore of your data. Click Save PIN and now click

Next.

Note: If home office already did this for you the pin is 1212. Click Next.

5. Click the Import Data.

6. Locate the Perspectives POSALL backup file that you will be using and then click

Import.

7. The upsize of the data will begin and you will see a red screen telling you not to use this computer until it is done.

8. Once the upsize of data is complete, it will take you back to the import data screen. Click Next until you get to the last screen and then click on Exit. 9. You are now ready to start doing the Setup and Go. Open the MNPOS

Instructional Guide book to page 10, Initial Settings.

10. Follow the instructions carefully. Sections marked as “Important” need to be completed before you can start ringing sales in MNPOS. Sections marked “Customize” can be done right now or you may choose to come back to it later.

11. You can also go to http://merlenormantraining.webex.com and click on the link for

1. Shut down the PC. Unpack the printer, connect it to power and connect the

printer’s USB cable to the computer. Turn the computer back on. 2. Insert the install CD that came with the Star TSP100 printer. 3. If prompted, click the option to Run Autorun.exe

4. Click Installation.

5. Click I Accept.

6. Click Yes when you get a message asking to allow the setup_x64 or setup_x32 file to make changes to this computer.

7. Click Next on the setup welcome screen.

8. Enter your username and organization information and then click Next.

9. Select Typical for the setup type and then click Next. 10. Click Install to begin the installation.

13. Click the Windows Start Button and click Devices and Printers.

14. The TSP100 printer should be listed. Either make note of the printer name and write it down exactly as it is shown or right click on the printer and click Printer

Properties. The printer name should already be highlighted, just hold down the

15. Now click the Windows Start button All Programs Star Micronics Star

18. Click the OPOS option on the left hand side.

19. On the right hand side you will have two boxes to add a new device. The top box is for the TSP100 receipt printer. If you have the cash drawer that works with this printer the bottom box is to setup the cash drawer.

20. Click the Add New button on the top and it will populate a printer name in that field. Make sure the printer name looks exactly like it appeared in the Devices and Printers windows. If you copied the name from the Devices and Printers window then you can hold down the CTRL + P key to paste the name you copied.

19 22. Click Apply Changes and then click Close.

23. Open the MNPOS Register and go to Options Settings. Double click on the

TSP100 printer listed under the OPOS box. Click the Cash Drawer tab and uncheck the no cash drawer attached option then double click on the TSP100 printer listed under the OPOS box. Click save and then click OK to the message telling you to exit the register before the settings take effect. Exit the register and then the next time you open it again the TSP100 receipt printer and cash drawer will be working.
