The physical desktop infrastructures no longer make sense for the corporate world. Not only are they expensive, insecure and maintenance-heavy, they also cannot effectively support the changing business IT landscapes. In this technology savvy world, end-users move between endpoint devices frequently, such as desktops, laptops, tablets and mobile phones throughout the workday, expecting to stay connected and have access to their data no matter where they are or what the are doing.

COMLINK Cloud Desktop (“CCD”) delivers Windows desktops and applications from the cloud, which allow the customer control their business applications and data securely. CCD allows high-performance access anytime, anyplace from any device, for all employees via any Internet or private connection. The customizable CCD does all the “heavy-lifting” of installing the back-end infrastructure to support cloud desktops, allowing customers to access the CCD as a monthly service. CCD operates on a locally and geographically redundant infrastructure that is provided to the customer in various levels of service package options. Our service allows you to centralize operations, mitigate the disruptive effects of boot storms and protect your data at a significantly lower cost than you can with traditional physical desktop infrastructures.

The new generation of CCD makes managing IT easier, faster, more reliable, scalable and less expensive. COMLINK currently utilizes Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Services (“RDS”) to provide customers access to their applications and data. CCD allows sensitive data to be protected on secure servers within COMLINK’s Tier III compatible datacenters rather than being stored on unprotected desktop computers or roaming around the public in the backseat of a cab, a coffee shop or an airport. The customer’s data is always locked in COMLINK’s datacenter, providing centralized controls and compliance.

COMLINK can customize a solution that fits the customer’s needs. For instance, we can customize the CCD so employees are restricted from copying data to a remote location (such as an employee copying confidential customer lists to a flash drive).

Such policy controls are not possible with traditional desktop computers because employees can tamper with the physical security layers. With the CCD, the customer’s data is secure in our datacenter, and the customer is able to determine the user rights and access that each employees has to confidential company data.

CCD service package options are sold on a per seat basis and consist of the cloud desktop environment, cloud storage, Microsoft Office Suite, Cloud Protect and the option to customize the CCD with numerous business applications. CCD utilizing COMLINK’s Cloud Protect bundle to ensure that the customers data is backed-up, supported, and secure.

What is Remote Desktop Services?

RDS is a software application that allows one computer to be in control of one or series of computers that can be used alone or as part of a suite of other administrative applications. RDS is a client application that allows you to access and control the resources and data of a remote or host, computer using an Internet connection. In computing, the term remote desktop refers to a software or operating system feature that allows a personal computer’s desktop environment to be run remotely on one system while being displayed on a separate client device.

COMLINK’s Cloud Desktop utilizes RDS, which is one of the components of Microsoft Windows that allows a user to take control of a remote computer or virtual machine over a network connection. Remote Desktop Services is Microsoft’s implementation of thin client, where Windows software and the entire desktop of the computer. The CCD is made accessible to a remote client machine that supports the Remote Desktop Protocol.

RDS software can be accessed via the Internet and allow users to recreate their desktop via a connection to the cloud. CCD process can be easily explained as the remote control of a computer by using another device connected via the Internet or another network. CCD with RDS is accomplished through a common client/server model. The client, or VNC viewer, is installed on a local computer and then connects to the network via a server component, which is installed on the remote computer. In a VNC session, all keystrokes and mouse clicks are registered as if the client were actually performing tasks on the end-user machine, even though the actual process is being performed off-site in COMLINK’s datacenter.

With the CCD, only the software user interfaces are transferred to the client system. All input from the client system/end user is transmitted to the server, where software execution takes place. CCD allows the IT department to install applications on a central server instead of multiple computers. Remote users can log on to the CCD and are able to use those applications over the network. The centralization of RDS makes maintenance and troubleshooting easier and can be used in conjunction with Windows authentication system to prevent unauthorized users from accessing the applications or data.

Remote Desktop Services provide:

• Efficient management with deployment wizard and tools consolidated in a single console in Server Manager

• Rich user experience available on a variety of devices and platforms, including Windows, iOS, Mac OS X, and Android

• Great value so customers can take advantage of core platform capabilities such as tiered storage and disk de-duplication to improve performance, scale, and solution economics
