Towers Watson’s pricing software applications and consultancy support enable you to perform tasks that would otherwise be impossible, impractical or hugely time-consuming.

By supporting the development of powerful predictive pricing models based on company and external data; by enhancing the precision of risk classifications; and by enabling scenario testing and optimisation of strategic pricing options (including in real time), our specialist pricing software products help improve the success and profitability of your pricing strategies.

Years of practical experience have gone into the design of the products in our pricing suite. Our software is developed by our team of pricing specialists and software engineering professionals working in collaboration with our clients.

Product range

Our pricing software helps with many stages of the pricing control cycle and is used by more of the world’s P&C insurers than any comparable products to meet pricing objectives and improve profitability.

Towers Watson Emblem builds powerful and sophisticated predictive models of claims, retention, conversion and other policyholder behaviour experience. Its flexible analysis capabilities allow even the most complicated models to be fitted to large datasets rapidly. Towers Watson Classifier analyses the effect of geographic and other factors on risk through a range of sophisticated spatial analysis methods. The Towers Watson Radar platform comprises a range of products (including Radar Optimiser) that provide powerful management information to support portfolio monitoring and rate setting. Further products are available which perform full price optimisation and optionally integrate directly with rating systems to deliver real-time processing capability.

Our software products share a number of user-friendly features in common:

•Highly visual interfaces to support usability

•Graphic-rich reporting facilities to assist communication of information with non-technical users

•Facilities for high levels of user customisation

•Designed to interface with a wide range of database and ancillary products typically used by insurers

•Strong governance and documentation

•Regular updates and integration of best practice methodologies

Save time, maximise productivity

Emblem supports a wide range of complex predictive models and presents results clearly, enabling a diverse set of users to employ statistical modelling techniques. It allows you to save time by concentrating on the analysis and results, rather than the time-consuming activity of setting up models. Also, users can glean powerful pricing insights without huge volumes of data – which increases pricing profitability.

Emblem XE: extending your capability

Emblem XE is an optional upgrade for companies with exceptionally large datasets that need even faster processing speeds. Emblem XE takes full advantage of multiple processors – up to 128 processor threads – and 64-bit systems. This can increase performance and scalability 30-fold.

Emblem Express: for low volume usage

With Emblem Express users get all the power and functionality of the full package, but applied to smaller predictive modelling data sets. A simplified interface is available to help new users make use of the package quickly.

Towers Watson Emblem

Incorporating over a decade of practical experience

and enhancements in its design, Emblem’s predictive

The insight that Classifier provides can also improve the return on investment of marketing campaigns by enabling more accurate regional targeting.

Pin point pricing

Classifier’s advanced features, combined with the ability to integrate extensive external information such as geo-demographic data, enable better risk assessment in areas where historic claims experience is sparse.

In highly developed markets with increasingly competitive distribution channels, Classifier greatly reduces the scope for pricing anti-selection. Since geographic rating varies considerably between insurers, even where analyses are based on large data volumes, it potentially gives you an edge over competitors in exploiting these differences to set profitable prices.

Towers Watson Classifier

Classifier provides a clearer understanding of the effect

of location on risk. Our clients around the world benefit

from more accurate and robust assessments of likely

claims cost and policy-level profitability across different

geographical areas.

Key features

•Models geographic risk relativities at postcode or micro-zone level

•Sophisticated mapping techniques enable you to visualise risk easily

•Data can be imported from external sources to supplement claims history

•Flexibility of clustering techniques to deliver level of granularity required

•Powerful diagnostics ensure accurate results

Business benefits

•Improve price accuracy and competitiveness through better geographical analysis

•Increase confidence in writing business in areas with little claims history

•Strengthen communications between analysts and underwriters

•Increase marketing effectiveness through better regional targeting

Enlightened pricing

Radar Base is the core product and provides the platform for a broad range of activities from providing powerful management information, developing business plans, summarising results of risk modelling work and competitor analysis, through to detailed rate-setting models for individual insurance products.

The optimisation elements of Radar Optimiser enable you to understand more fully the impact of pricing on customer buying behaviours in order to overlay your specific profit and volume objectives. Live versions of both Radar Base and Radar Optimiser are available for real-time calculations.

•Model the impact of potential pricing decisions on volume, profitability and other performance metrics
