Les Roches International school of hotel Management is a private institution that offers undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate programs of up to 3 ½ years of study in the fields of hospitality, tourism, and event management.

Les Roches switzerland is located in the french-speaking part of the swiss Alps in the small town of bluche, just a few minutes’ drive from the famous ski and golf resort of crans-Montana. the branch campus Les Roches Marbella is located in the resort town of Marbella at the heart of spain’s costa del sol, a top luxury tourism destination in spain. Les Roches Jin Jiang and RAcA lie in the exciting cities of shanghai and Amman.

II. MIssIon

Les Roches International school of hotel Management prepares international students committed to a career in the service industries for success. Its model hospitality education programs balance theory with practice, independent learning with strong faculty support, and a foundation for lifelong learning with the skills for immediate employment and progress to leadership positions in the industry. through international branch campuses, the Les Roches model of education is accessible to students throughout the world.

III. AcADeMIc pRogRAMs

As Les Roches is accredited by the new england Association of schools and colleges, the following academic programs are based on the American university system. Intakes are every usually every January/february and July/August.

All programs are taught in english.

unDeRgRADuAte pRogRAMs

◥ Hotel Management Diploma (available at Les Roches switzerland, Marbella and Jin Jiang, 2 ½-3 years, including three academic semesters and either two or three internships)

◥ Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in International Hotel Management (available at Les Roches switzerland and Marbella, 3½ years, including five academic semesters and two internships) with specializations in:

◥ Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in International Hotel Management with Intensive English and Service (available at Les Roches in switzerland and Marbella, 4 years, including six academic semesters and two internships) with specializations as normal bbA program.

◥ BBA in Global Hospitality Management (3½ years, including five academic semesters and two internships). In this unique program, students travel together as a class between the three Les Roches campuses in switzerland, spain, and china and experience the qualities of these diverse destinations. ◥ Two-degree BBA in International Hotel Management with Kendall College, Chicago (4 years, including six academic semesters and two internships.)

Les Roches switzerland and Marbella have launched a two-degree hospitality program with Kendall college, allowing students to combine a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management at Les Roches with an extra nine months of study at Kendall college in chicago. upon successful completion, students receive two bachelor-level degrees from Les Roches and Kendall and may apply for a 12-month permit to work in the u.s. and gain practical training. postgRADuAte pRogRAMs

Postgraduate diplomas (different options available at Les Roches switzerland, Marbella and Jin Jiang, 1-2 years, including academic semesters and internships)

the postgraduate curriculum is designed for career-changers or students who need to gain the basic administrative skills for hospitality operations. MAsteR’s pRogRAM

◥ Master of business Administration (MbA) in hospitality Management (available in Les Roches switzerland, 1 year, with specializations in finance or Marketing)

the MbA aims to develop young professionals into more effective workers, giving them the skills needed to progress to senior managerial positions.

◥ new! Master of science (Ms) in hospitality Leadership (available in Les Roches switzerland, 1 year)

this new master’s degree, available from January 2015, enables professionals to accelerate their managerial or entrepreneurial career in hospitality, through building practical and strategic leadership expertise.

education at Les Roches follows the transformative education model and consists of developing students’ full personal and professional potential through educational programs that feature hands-on learning, professional internships, and progressive learning principles and that address a global mindset, interpersonal skills, and employability. with emphasis on both didactic and craft-based learning, Les Roches is european in its outlook, swiss in its work ethos, American in its educational approach, and multinational in its student body. All programs emphasize developing critical thinking skills, understanding contemporary management theory, and integrating theory and practice.

Les Roches curricula are divided into three sections, each one developing specific aptitudes in order for graduates to be fully prepared to lead and manage teams in an exciting environment.

pRofessIonAL DeVeLopMent

Les Roches students start with general introduction courses, then progress to specialized competencies and technology. craft-based learning introduces students to the work environment and helps them understand the interpersonal relationships involved. the kitchens, dining rooms, and rooms at Les Roches are equipped exactly as they would be in a top hotel or restaurant. by gaining hands-on experience, students develop confidence and self-discipline, as well as analytical skills, and are prepared for a successful entry into the professional world.

Les Roches students are introduced to business subjects such as finance, marketing, and human resources management. the focus is on how they are applied in practice.

geneRAL eDucAtIon

general education at Les Roches includes not only specific general education courses, but also a set of common skills embedded in courses throughout the curriculum and in internships and experiences gained in the implicit curriculum in campus events and activities. Providing knowledge, skills, experiences, and understanding, the general education program offers an educational foundation that assists graduates to reach senior positions in the hospitality sector. the 4,022 square-meter RAcA campus offers students a privileged culinary learning experience in a serene atmosphere. the campus comprises nine craft-based learning centers, including a pastry and bakery lab, a theater-style kitchen, a production a la carte area, as well as a modern restaurant and a banqueting  area.

whether in the majestic swiss Alps, in a spanish resort town, in china’s megacity or in the Middle east, Les Roches campuses provide a unique academic environment. state-of-the-art facilities and residences ensure students’ comfort in and outside of the classroom, while different student-led restaurants provide an ideal setting for kitchen and service courses. sports facilities include tennis courts, gymnasiums and swimming pools and cater for a range different sports activities.

VII. InteRnshIps

Internships are part of the majority of the academic programs at Les Roches and play an important role in all undergraduate-level studies. the internship experience enables students to put into practice their theoretical knowledge and to face real work situations in today’s fast-evolving environment. Internships also increase student employability, as they will graduate with not only an education, but extensive professional experience. the career development and Industry Placement office assists students in securing internships during their studies, as well as finding positions upon graduation.

each semester, students average three internship opportunities for positions all over the world (based on 2012 data for all campuses).

each semester, representatives from more than 30-40 international hotel chains and companies come to our campuses to introduce themselves and recruit our graduating students.

IX. ALuMnI AssocIAtIon of Les Roches

All Les Roches graduates automatically become part of an extensive alumni network with almost 11,000 members in 129 countries around the world. through the Alumni Association, graduates can continue to develop both personal and professional relationships and exchange new ideas with fellow alumni. the Alumni Association also helps new graduates enter the professional world through its executive search and placement service, which matches job-seekers with open positions.

ADMIssIon RequIReMents

Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the start of the program.

Applicants must have a baccalauréat, Maturité, Abitur, A-levels, Ib diploma, high school diploma, or equivalent.

english requirements: students who are not native english speakers or who have not spent the last three years in an english-taught school should enclose one of the following:

toefL: A minimum score of 500 points on the paper-based test (Pbt) or 61 on the Internet-based test (ibt)

cambridge first certificate in english (fce): A minimum grade of c

IeLts Academic: A minimum overall band score of 5.0, plus a minimum score of 5.0 in each sub-test (listening, reading, writing, and speaking). Please note that language requirements might differ depending on program and campus.

when considering candidates, the admissions manager looks at the entire profile of the applicant, including academic records, work experience (if any), extracurricular activities, test scores, and recommendations.

XI. hIstoRy

1954 “L’ecole des Roches” is founded as an international school.

1979 the international school becomes a hotel and tourism school, with instruction in english.

1991 Les Roches is accredited by the new england Association of schools and colleges, Inc. (neAsc) in the united states.

1995 Les Roches Marbella opens in spain.

2000 Les Roches is acquired by what is now known as Laureate International universities, a worldwide provider of higher education to more than

850,000 students in 29 countries, at more than 75 institutions.

2004 Les Roches and Jin Jiang International hotels partner to open Les Roches Jin Jiang in shanghai, china.

2006 Les Roches switzerland is accredited at the university level through neAsc’s commission on Institutions of higher education (cIhe) in the

united states.

2006 Les Roches introduces a new MbA in hospitality Management, with specializations in finance or Marketing, through universidad europea

de Madrid (ueM).

2007 Les Roches changes its name to “Les Roches International school of hotel Management” to better reflect its global student body and

educational approach.

2007 Les Roches is ranked by hiring managers among the top three hospitality management schools in the world for an international career (tns

global survey, 2007).

2008 the Royal Academy of culinary Arts opens as a branch campus in Jordan.

2010 Les Roches switzerland is again ranked among the top three hospitality management schools worldwide. (tns global survey, september 2010).

2011 Les Roches Marbella, as official branch campus of Les Roches in switzerland, is accredited at the university level by neAsc.

2012 Les Roches sets a guinness world Record for the “most nationalities in a swimming pool.”

2013 Industry hiring managers again rank Les Roches among the top three hospitality management schools worldwide for an international career

2014 Les Roches becomes the first hospitality management school to offer a global bachelor’s program, where students travel with their class to

study in switzerland, china, and spain to achieve a bbA in global hospitality Management.
