Network Setup Guide

1 Glossary

1.1 Static IP

Computers are communicated and recognized by their own unique IP addresses over the Internet. “Static IP” provided by your ISP (Internet Service Provider) means the IP address of the computer is fixed, and is suitable to build a website.

1.2 Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE)

Users can easily have high-speed Internet services as long as they’re ready for the following things:

1) Insert an Ethernet card into the PC.

2) Obtain ADSL service via any ISP.

3) Obtain and install PPPoE software CD. The charge varies depending on each ISP.

1.3 Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)

The main function is to enable a machine to connect to a DHCP server via its Ethernet address to acquire IP address, net mask, default gateway and DNS information.

After finish the settings for DHCP servers, the administrator can get IP-related settings automatically via the DHCP protocol in the local PC and do not need to set the settings in each PC.

1.4 Dynamic Domain Name Server (DDNS)

Each machine is recognized by its own unique IP address. When a user inputs a domain name, the browser will connect to a host which contains the corresponding information of domain names and IP addresses to look for the IP address of the target PC. This host is the so-called Domain Name Server, DNS.

DDNS, Dynamic Domain Name Server, will help to set the corresponding domain name for the host with the dynamic IP address when the IP address changes. The operation of DDNS is as follows: download and install one client software in your host. Then, the client software will communicate with the Dynamic DNS server, and determine the corresponding domain name with the changes of the IP address.

2 Operation

Please build an area network by connecting your DVR and your PC or laptop with a network cable. Then, log in your DVR with the supplied AP software.

(2)

Note: Your PC / laptop and DVR must be under the same domain to build an area network. Please change the IP address of your PC / laptop into 192.168.1.X (X can be the number between 1~255, except 10) to login.

The default IP address of your DVR is 192.168.1.10, and the default username as well as the password is admin.

Double click the shortcut icon on the desktop to enter the “Video Viewer” screen.

The interface of IP address book will be shown. Click the Search button to search for the available IP addresses. After a while, the searched items will be listed.

Double click the target IP address, a dialog box will be shown.

Input the default password: admin (The same as the User Name), and set the Stream Format as MPEG4. Then click “Apply”.

(3)

Then click “Server Setting” on the miscellaneous control panel.

Click “Network” in the tree path on the left of the server setting interface.

3 network connection types are available: Static IP, PPPOE and DHCP.

If you have a static IP address obtained from the local ISP, you can set the “IP Type” as

“Static IP”. Otherwise, apply for a DDNS account to appoint a fixed domain name for the dynamic IP address, and then set the “IP Type” as “PPPoE” or “DHCP”.

2.1 Static IP

Set the “IP Type” as “Static IP”. Enter “Server IP”, “Gateway”, “Net Mask” and “Web Port”

(1~9999) information obtained from your ISP. Then, click “Apply” to confirm.

Connect your DVR to the Internet via a network device (hub or switch). Your DVR will log into the Internet automatically via the IP address you just entered, and you can use this IP address to visit your DVR remotely.

Note:Please make sure you have applied for a static public IP address from the local ISP before using this function.

2.2 DDNS Account

Under the connection of PPPoE or DHCP, you could key in the domain name which points to the IP address of you DVR to login. However, you need apply for a DDNS account at first.
