AgGPS 542 Receiver: Enable GLONASS through the
Web Browser
This document describes how to use the web browser to enable GLONASS on a Trimble® AgGPS® 542
receiver.
Note: Some AgGPS 542 receivers were shipped from Trimble with the GLONASS option incorrectly configured. This document describes how to reconfigure and enable the GLONASS option on the receiver.
Setting up the Receiver
When setting up an Ethernet connection between a computer and an AgGPS 542 receiver, use one of the following methods to select DHCP (Assigning a Dynamic IP Address).
Method 1
1. Download the latest version of the WinFlash application from the Trimble Partners site.
Note: You will need at least receiver firmware version 4.19 and WinFlash version 1.212.
2. Use WinFlash to connect to the device:
a. Select Trimble Ag GPS Receiver and then click Next.
b. Select Configure the Ethernet Settings, click Next and then click Finish.

4. Close the WinFlash application.
Method 2
1. On the receiver home screen, press Enter to access Mode Settings.
2. Press the Right arrow: Mode Settings starts to blink.
3. Press the Down arrow until you see Ethernet Config: Press Enter.
4. Press the Up or Down arrows to until DHCP appears.
5. Press Enter to confirm that the receiver is in DHCP mode.
Connecting the receiver to the computer
The following components are required:
• A 26-pin Ethernet adaptor (P/N 57168) connected to the rear of the receiver.
• An Ethernet cross over cable to connect the Ethernet port on the computer to the adaptor. You can purchase this cable at most office supply stores or at electrical specialty stores, such as Radio Shack.

Changing settings in the computer
Depending on your operating system, use one of the following methods.
Windows XP operating system
1. On the computer, select / / .
2. Disconnect all wireless or Internet connections: Right-click the connection and then select Disabled. Do this for all connections except where the Ethernet cable is connected to the computer: This must be enabled to communicate with the receiver.
3. Right-click the receiver connection and then select Properties.
5. In the General tab, confirm that Obtain an IP address automatically is selected.
In the Alternate Configuration tab, confirm that Automatic private IP address is selected.

3. Disconnect all wireless or Internet connections: Right-click the connection and then select Disabled. Do this for all connections except where the Ethernet cable is connected to the computer: This must be enabled to communicate with the receiver.
4. Scroll through the selections until you see Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) and then double-click to open.
5. In the General tab, confirm that Obtain an IP address automatically is selected.
In the Alternate Configuration tab, confirm that Automatic private IP address is selected.
Configuring the receiver through the web browser
This enables you to check the receiver status and change settings that are not available through the WinFlash application.
1. On the receiver home screen, press the Up arrow once to access the configured IP address.
Note: Your number may not be the same as that shown in the following figure. Do not enter the number in this example—enter the number that your computer has configured.
2. Open an Internet browser, such as Internet Explorer, and then enter the IP address that your receiver has assigned to it. See step 1 above.
3. When prompted, enter a User name and Password to gain access to the receiver: – Default User name= admin
– Default Password= password

Verifying that Glonass is enabled, and clearing the receiver settings through the
web browser
Using the web browser, you can verify that the receiver is tracking GLONASS satellites. If it is not, you can either manually select the satellites or you can reset the receiver, which restores the receiver to its factory default settings.
Caution: Resetting the receiver clears everything, including appfiles, satellite data, and IP settings.
1. Select the Receiver Configuration tab.
3. Confirm that the following options are enabled. You should be receiving GLONASS satellites.
If GLONASS tracking options are incorrectly disabled, the Tracking screen appears as follows. You are not receiving GLONASS satellites.
4. Do one of the following:
• If the receiver has GLONASS enabled, skip the following steps and resume using the receiver. • If the receiver does not have GLONASS enabled, select Receiver Configuration and then select

5. Click OK next to Clear All Receiver Settings. The receiver will restart.
6. Click Receiver Configuration / Tracking again to verify that the receiver has the three GLONASS options enabled. It will now be receiving GLONASS satellites.
