In addition to the current GSM/GPRS functions supported, the

MD8480C GERAN test function has been greatly strengthened by adding support for functions such as EGPRS and DTM.

This presentation focuses on the latest GERAN test contents supported by the MD8480C.

Some independent commercial EGPRS services have already started but the future will require various other tests depending on the Multislot Class expansion as well as Inter-RAT Handover tests with UTRAN (HSPA/W-CDMA).

Using the all-in-one MD8480C supports various function tests for EGPRS mobile terminals as well as Inter-RAT handover tests with UTRAN.

-Supports latest commercial Multislot Class12 (230-Kbps data rate) services with settings for any DL/UL Time Slot configuration complying with the 3GPP standard

EGPRS Test

Installing throughput monitoring software in an external server supports confirmation of maximum throughput at EGPRS connection, change in maximum throughput at EGPRS – HSPA/W-CDMA Inter-RAT Handover, packet loss, etc.

DTM is an indispensable function for achieving the same services as the multicall service achieved by W-CDMA services in GSM services. By using the MD8480C, instead of just the call processing operation, the entire DTM operation anticipated by GSM and W-CDMA/GSM commercial services can be tested in the actual voice and data communications status. Ciphering Test

Checking Ciphering Operation at GERAN Handover

-When carriers are using different ciphering algorithms, ciphering operation before and after Handover can be verified.

The MD8480C supports the various GSM and GPRS ciphering algorithms. Not only can the operation of each ciphering algorithm be tested independently, but it also supports ciphering operation checks for Handover and DTM of anticipated commercial services.

GSM Ciphering Algorithm: A5/1, A5/2, A5/3* GPRS Ciphering Algorithm: GEA1, GEA2, GEA3* *A5/3 and GEA3 are supported by MX848045C V5.60.

- The GSM and GPRS ciphering algorithms at DTM operation can be verified at various combinations based on actual network settings.

SMSCB is a service for sending Short Messages from PLMN to an unspecified number of mobile terminals. The SMSCB message content can be provided from various sources, such as traffic information and weather forecasts.

Using the MD8480C, not only can CBS messages including information targeted at mobile users be sent, but also the 3GPP-standardized SMSCB DRX option is supported.
