In the field of electricity, the desire to save energy and concerns about saving the

environment will encourage those working in the industry to re-think the very heart of

their business. They are about to enter a new era, an era of energy management.

To anticipate and support this evolution, Schneider Electric is bringing to industry both

its experience in training and its role as an energy management specialist.

Training has always been a major concern for Schneider Electric.

Considered a permanent process from initial training through to ongoing professional

development, training supports men and women as they prepare to manage their

futures.

This policy relies above all on a requirement for excellence, the very excellence that

has created the reputation of our products: the quality of teaching materials, skilled

trainers, effective support and an international dimension. Every year, 40% of our

offer is enhanced to stay at the cutting edge of technologies and keep ahead of

expectations.

This excellence has enabled Schneider Electric to currently be a major player in the

area of training. We train almost 500 teachers annually in close collaboration with the

French Ministry of National Education. 10,000 students attend our courses annually

with a satisfaction rate of 98%. Our teaching solutions are used in more than

40 countries.

Schneider Electric's commitment to training is based on the company's vision

of bringing secure, reliable, efficient, productive, clean, connected energy within

everyone's reach.

Our solutions, therefore, place a major emphasis on energy efficiency: measurement,

smart equipment, new energy sources, energy diagnostics, electric vehicles, etc. They

provide students and professionals with the resources to develop their skills in all of

the areas to which energy management applies, such as: industry, buildings, homes,

infrastructure and data centers.

When it comes to training, Schneider Electric believes that: the best investment is the

development of human competency.

The Electrical engineering program offer

Model and prototype in the electrical engineering program

A prototype is an implementation that obtains and verifies the main

characteristics of a system, even if the technical solutions used are not the

same as those that will be implemented in the industrial system.

Models of systems are the result of a combination of existing components

that can be assembled by temporary means or not, and set, configured or

programmed depending on the specifications and student proposals.

IT system cabinet

Package description

IT system cabinet

This equipment is an electrical distribution cabinet equipped with four castors.

It is used to demonstrate, through an IT isolated operation system, the principle of continuity of service for an installation as well as associated maintenance methods.

It includes:

@a 400 V/230-400 V 10 kVA three-phase transformer allowing an IT type earthing system (neutral isolated from earth) to be created,

@three-phase feeders protected by 10 A circuit breakers, for connecting various other devices,

@a TR22 permanent insulation monitor (PIM), to cover the principle of continuity of service of an installation as well as maintenance methods.

The tertiary and industrial distribution boards are Prisma Plus modular switchgear enclosures.

Each enclosure is equipped with a master switch with external lock. The industrial distribution board is equipped with two 2-pole circuit breakers and four 3-pole circuit breakers, to protect the power supply of industrial systems (machines, operating parts, etc.).

The tertiary distribution board is equipped with six 2-pole circuit breakers to protect the power supply of tertiary systems (lighting, sockets etc.). These three cabinets (IT cabinet, industrial and tertiary distribution boards) are equipped with a Twido PLC centralising the state of the different feeders through the circuit breakers (open, closed or tripped).

This information can then be sent to a concentrator PLC in a main LV switchboard via the Ethernet network.

Teaching Objectives

@To be used with the teaching LV

switchboards to explore the different workshop architectures.

@To create an IT isolated operation system.

@To have additional electrical distribution

feeders.

@To exchange information by Ethernet.

@To create the links with a networked LV

switchboard cabinet.

Presentation of the kit

The isolated neutral is the solution ensuring the best continuity of service in operation. For this reason, on can fi nd the IT earthing diagram in hospitals (particularly in surgery rooms), the electric grids of airport runways, in mines and premises where there is a risk of fi res or explosions, on boats and in all industries where a stoppage of operation would be costly or dangerous.

@The IT cabinet system is made of a Prisma P type cabinet.

@The equipment for improved service continuity consists of a source

inverter (EDF source no. 1 and EDF no. 2) enabling the simulation of a loss of voltage along the "normal" source with automatic switching to the "emergency" source.

@The cabinet can be equipped with an optional three-phase inverter with a

battery life of 10 min.

@The system is equipped with a 400 V/400 V transformer with a 10 kVA

delta/star connection.

@The cabinet is equipped with six feeders for the protection of electronic

circuits.

@A permanent insulation monitor communicating with automatic

fault search along the 6 feeders enables the recovery of the available information under supervision.

@Each feeder is equipped with a terminal plate for the measurement of

current and voltage.

@Screen printing representing the electrical diagram of the cabinet with

measuring points for a short circuit current and the potential contact voltage.

@A system of fault simulation is provided on 5 feeders. The selection of the

feeder is performed using a switch.

@A simulation system of the second fault with a limitation of the short-circuit

(simulation of two types of faults: short-circuit and leakage current).

Presentation of the kit

KNX solutions are based on a communication bus that is only to be installed in parallel with the power line to serve both the user interfaces (push buttons, control station, touch screens), but also the sensors and actuators will turn the building into a performing building.

Among the industries where it is common to fi nd such solutions that we may include administrative buildings and service industries, commercial buildings, schools, sports and cultural complexes, hospitals and long term care residences, hotel resorts and upscale residences.

The most common applications addressed by KNX solutions are lighting, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, control of openings (shutters and rolling awnings), taking into account time management zone, the presence of an occupant , the weather and interfacing with the most popular networks on the market (TCP-IP, for example).

The MD1AAKNXVR educational pack enables the discovery of the KNX system.

Its 7 inch touch screen and specifi c actuator for the roller shutters or Venetian blinds can, among other things, enable an understanding of all of the features of KNX bus and address the principles of energy effi ciency. It includes:

This teaching equipment "Addressable Fire Security System" consists of a monoblock mobile structure. On the front is shown a portion of an establishment that receives the public (e.g.: a summer camp).

It includes the various required components:

@to take into account the information (automatic detectors and manual

releases),

@to process informations (equipment control, signaling and reporting

chart),

@to manage alarms and security settings (siren and centralizing of the fi re

safety setting with the safety actuated device)

These components are located in different parts of the represented building.

All connections are found on the secure sockets enabling fast quick wiring without tools.

The set of components on the equipment meets current standards in force.

Operation

Four practical exercises are offered:

@Practical exercise 1: Implementation and recording @Practical exercise 2: Use of a fi re security system,

@Practical exercise 3: Confi guration of a fi re security system (local mode), @Practical exercise 4: Confi guration of a fi re security system (remote

mode).
