Letter to Parents: 08/2021 (P4 Students) Through: The Principal

Dear Parent / Guardian,

Happy New Year to you and your family! I hope that your child is well-settled into the new academic year.

1) FOSTERING A STRONG AND PRODUCTIVE PARTNERSHIP

In order to enjoy success in school, our students need support from both the home and school. A strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. My level teachers and I are looking forward to a productive partnership with you in order to bring out the best in our students. By now, you would have received a letter from your child’s Form Teacher, informing you of the items to bring to school daily and the relevant administrative matters.

Let us work together so that your child can achieve his/her highest potential. If we may suggest, here are some ways you could help him/her at home:

• Talk to your child about what they experienced in school each day. Focus on the positive areas to help your child be excited about school.

• Pay attention to your child’s strengths and interests. Observe what makes his or her eyes light up!

• Create a conducive home environment for your child to enjoy reading and to finish his/her homework by himself/herself.

• Guide your child in managing his/her time. Encourage your child to live a healthy, balanced life with time for sleep and play.

• During the learning process, your child will inevitably encounter challenges and frustrations. Reassure him/her that getting things wrong is part of learning and support him/her to persevere through challenging problems.

• Encourage your child to ask questions in class and to look for teachers when he/she needs help.

• Help your child relate to others. Encourage him/her to cooperate with, and look out for his/her classmates.

• Work with the teachers to help your child respect differences and resolve disagreements amicably.

2) YEAR HEAD BRIEFING

As a follow-up to the Principal’s Letter to Parent (Ref No. 1/2021), we would like to remind you of the Year Head Briefing which will be held virtually on Friday, 22 January 2021.

The briefing by the Principal and Year Head will be pre-recorded and can be accessed through the school website via this link:

https://northlandpri.moe.edu.sg/other/letters-to-parents

The Year Heads would like to create an interactive session with you during the upcoming briefing. However, due to time constraints, we would like to invite you to pose questions pertaining to the level that you might have. Please scan the QR code below

and we will try our best to address your queries during the Year Head briefing.

The sessions with the Form and Subject Teachers will be conducted through Google Meet (GM). The links for the GM will be made accessible through the school website as well. Please use : https://northlandpri.moe.edu.sg/other/letters-to-parents to access the GM link/s.

Do click on the correct link/s, according to your child’s Form Class (for the EL, MA, SC subjects) and Mother Tongue Teacher (for Mother Tongue languages) at the respective time slots. The schedule for the meeting with the Form and Subject Teachers is appended in Annex A.

3) SCHOOL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

We would also like to inform parents of some school policy and procedures pertaining to:

a) Leaving School Premises for Lunch on Days with After-School Activities.

Students are NOT allowed to leave the school premises for lunch on those days with after-school activities (CCA/ Remedial / Supplementary lessons or Special Programmes). This is to ensure that your child’s safety and health are not compromised.

As teachers will not be on duty to monitor road safety or refrain students from consuming unhealthy food, titbits or fast food meals after school hours, we kindly seek your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

(3)

Exceptions are made for the following:

Students re-entering the school without a valid pass will have their names recorded.

We hope with the implementation of this system, it will help you to ensure that your child does not loiter outside the school without your permission. Do take note that your child is required to be on time for all after-school activities.

b) Bringing of mobile phones to school

While we strongly discourage students from bringing mobile phones to school, we understand that there might be an urgent need for your child to bring it on a case-by- case basis. However, we would like to reiterate that students are bound by the strict rules and regulations on the use of the mobile phones as specified in the Student Diary.

We would like to inform parents that the mobile phones will be confiscated should there be any misuse and violation of rules pertaining to its usage. We seek your understanding in this matter.

4) ENRICHMENT PROGRAMMES/ACTIVITIES FOR SEMESTER 1

To support the school’s Strategic Thrust 1 of Providing Holistic Education, the school will be organising a variety of enrichment programmes for your child.

The payment for Singapore citizens and non-citizens is different as Singapore citizens may tap on their Edusave Fund Account to pay for the programmes/activities. In addition, the school will subsidise students on the Financial Assistance Schemes (FAS) for most of the programmes/activities.

Attached in this letter is also a brief write-up of the enrichment programmes and activities which will be conducted in Semester 1. It includes information about the cost of these programmes and activities, when they are conducted and other details for students to take note of. The school will co-pay for most of the programmes/activities to support the students’ learning.

The Consent Form for participation in these activities is also attached. This must be signed and returned to your child’s Form Teacher by Friday, 22 January 2021. We look forward to his/her participation and active involvement in these programmes.

Thank you in advance for your unwavering support in giving your child an enriching school experience. Should you need any clarification, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected].

We look forward to a very positive and productive year together.
