What is Ipsos MORI’s legal basis for processing your personal data?
Ipsos MORI is required by law to identify the legal basis on which we process your personal data. Ipsos MORI’s legal basis for processing is your consent to take part in this TouchPoints research survey. If you wish to withdraw your consent at any time, please see the section below covering ‘Your Rights’.
Ipsos MORI also collects personal data on your ethnic background, religion, disabilities, sexual orientation and current health. These are ‘special categories’ of personal data for which we are required to have an additional legal basis for processing. Our additional legal basis for processing these special categories is also “informed consent”. You will have an option not to answer these questions but your choice to do so is taken as evidence of your informed consent for us to process this data.
Where did you get my contact details from? You provided your contact details when you either:
• took part in an Ipsos survey in your own home about newspapers or radio listening or the television equipment in your home, or as part of our “CAPIBUS” survey on a variety of different topics, and agreed to take part in further research;
• you participated in our MobiTest Travel Survey where we asked you to carry around a GPS device for 2 weeks, and agreed to take part in further research;
• took part in a telephone survey conducted by Ipsos, and agreed to take part in further research;
• joined one of Ipsos’s online research panels and completed a recent online survey expressing interest in taking part in the TouchPoints survey;
• are registered as part of the Ipsos iris Panel;
• participated in a previous TouchPoints study and agreed to be re-contacted for follow- up research.
Your details may also have been provided from a 3rd party sample suppliers who collect data
based on legitimate interest – the data provided consists of telephone numbers and standard demographic details. We then will ask for your consent to participate in our research.
Full details of the source of your contact details can be obtained by contacting the TouchPoints Team. They can be contacted by email sent to [email protected]
Or by letter sent to: TouchPoints, Kings House, Kymberley Rd, Harrow, HA1 1PT, UK
What is the TouchPoints Mobile Application?
The TouchPoints App is a mobile application specially designed for this type of research by a third-party company called RealityMine Ltd. Ipsos MORI has engaged RealityMine Ltd. to provide software applications and data processing services for the purposes set out in this Policy. The App communicates via your mobile device with RealityMine’s servers.
The app is designed to collect information about what you do in a day, what media you use and what mood you are in through a diary you need to fill in for each 30 minute slot across a 7-day period.
If you change your mind about taking part in the research, please let us know so that we won’t contact you again for this research.
• In this case, if you are using a phone sent to you by Ipsos MORI, please send it back in the freepost envelope provided.
• Or, if you are using your own device for this research, please follow these instructions to remove the App from your device.
a) If you are using an Android device, simply open ‘Settings’, scroll down to Apps, find TouchPoints, and then click ‘Uninstall’.
b) If you are using an iPhone, simply hold down on the app icon. When an ‘X’ appears above TouchPoints, tap the ‘X’ to remove the application.
What information do we collect about you and your device?
Participation in this research is voluntary, and you are free to decide not to take part if you do not want to. If you do take part, we will collect the information you provide when completing the 7-day diary via the TouchPoints App and the separate questionnaire (online or on paper). We will also collect the information you provided over the phone when you agreed to take part as well as during the survey when we call you to check on your progress with the survey. In order to assist with any requests for help or support when installing, using or uninstalling our App, the App also logs the following events:
• Date and time of installation and when uninstalled. • Date and times when the App is active.
How will we use the information you provide?
We will use the information you provide when you complete the research recruitment survey and the separate questionnaire, in combination with the information collected when you complete the diary via the App, to better understand how people use various forms of media, the context in which they did so and how they felt when using that media.
We can also assure you that we will NEVER use your information for any purpose other than research and that the results of this research will only ever be published as fully anonymous data. Neither you, nor your individual device will be identifiable in the results of this research. We will NOT try to sell you anything, nor use your information for marketing purposes. Nor will we ever pass your personally identifiable information to any third parties unless you give specific permission for us to do this at the end of the separate questionnaire (see section below “Permission to match your TouchPoints data with data held about you by third-party companies”).
We may also send your information to our sub-contractors who may carry out some of the work we do on our behalf, and under our control. We may also store and process your information in countries other than the country in which you are resident.
Your contact details will be used only to contact you during the study to encourage your participation or to respond to you if you contact us about your participation.
Permission to match your TouchPoints data with data held about you by third-party companies
At the end of the separate questionnaire we will ask you whether you give permission for us to match the information you provide during your participation in the TouchPoints research with data held about you by other third parties. Only if you give your consent at this point will we ever pass your personally identifiable data to any third parties.
These third parties will be from one of the categories outlined in the permission request, namely high street or online retailers, loyalty card providers, media organisations, service companies (e.g. broadband, gas, electric, etc.), data marketing companies or information from your social media profiles.
If you agree to this, we will pass your name and other relevant contact details, such as your postcode and/or email address to the third party, so that they can identify the relevant data they hold for you and match it to your TouchPoints data. Ipsos will have agreements and processes in place with the third-party company to protect your personal data and to ensure that your linked personal information will be deleted by the third-party companyimmediately after the matching process and that the matched data will be anonymised.
On some occasions the third-party company may subcontract a second third-party company to handle your personally identifiable information to ensure that your TouchPoints data will be fully anonymised at all times.
If you give your consent for matching with the data that third-party companies hold about you, it is also possible that your personal data will be processed in countries outside of the United Kingdom and EEA (European Economic Area).
Do we collect information from Children?
Only individuals aged 15 or over are permitted to take part in this research. For any participants under 18 years of age, we will seek the consent of the young person’s parent, legal guardian or other person legally responsible for the young person before inviting them to take part in the research.
All of your personal data used and collected for this survey will be stored by RealityMine in United Kingdom and EEA (European Economic Area) and by Ipsos MORI in data centres and servers within the United Kingdom and EEA (European Economic Area). See the section “Permission to match your TouchPoints data with data held about you by third-party companies” above for exceptions to this clause if you consent to having your TouchPoints data matched with data held about you by third-party companies.
