The CommScope 4-Type Gas Discharge Tube with PTC (positive temperature coefficient) 5-Pin

Protector Module provides high performance and long life for both

overvoltage and over-current protection of voice-band and high-speed

data circuits in controlled environments including central offices.

•

Overvoltage protection is provided by a 3-element as discharge

tube rated at 350V nominal with a fall-safe device, which

provided insured protection in case of power cross.

•

The gas discharge tube technology has low capacitance, high

energy handling capability, and extreme temperature resiliency.

•

Sneak current protection is provided by two self-resetting 2.2

ohm PTC resistors with a hold current of 180 mA. The PTC

resistors are advantageous compared to heat coils – they are self-resetting and do not

require replacement for each operation. The low resistance of the PTC resistors makes

them ideal for a multitude of xDSL applications.

The CommScope 4-type Gas Discharge Tube with PTC 5-Pin Protector Module meets the Cat 5

high-speed requirement form GR-974, Issue 3, across the 100 MHz frequency spectrum except

for return loss between the frequencies of 52.5 and 62.5 MH at 65° C. The protectors are listed

to UL497. This product is an economical, reliable, and effective choice for overvoltage and

over-current protection of copper pair circuits.

Product Description

The AR Series Riser Cables are intended for vertical and horizontal distribution

in commercial buildings and meet Category 3 electrical specifications. This

includes all applications except those in plenums. These cables have a

fire-retardant PVC jacket and have been listed as CMR rated, in accordance with

the National Electrical Code. AR cables are color coded to match standard

Outside Plant (OSP) cable designs. The cable consists of solid soft bare

copper that’s insulated with foam polyethylene and a skin of PVC. Cores

through 900-pair are color coded to match the standard PIC color code. Cables

1,200-pair and larger have a “Mirror Image” color code. Spare pairs are

offered in cables of 1,200-pair and larger. An alvyn sheath is applied overall.

The alvyn sheath consists of a 8 mil aluminum tape applied longitudinally

and bonded to a gray PVC outer jacket.
