NAPLAN Reports
NAPLAN 2016 results will be sent home to parents on the 22 August. All students who participated in the NAPLAN tests will get an individual report of their results. NAPLAN individual student reports provide information about what students know and have achieved in the areas of reading, writing, language conventions and
numeracy. They also provide information on how students have performed in relation to other students in the same year group, and against the national average (over one million students participate in NAPLAN tests each year) and the national minimum standards.
What’s in the NAPLAN student report
The front page of the student report provides some general information about the tests, and an explanation of how to read the report. The second and third pages have diagrams that show the relevant part of the assessment scale in bands for that year level. For each year level, only six of the ten bands are shown on the student report. Year 3 student reports show bands 1 to 6, and the national minimum standard is band 2
Year 5 student reports show bands 3 to 8, and the national minimum standard is band 4. The student’s result in each area (reading, writing, spelling, grammar & punctuation, and numeracy) is marked on the common assessment scales. The diagrams in the student report also show the range for the middle 60 percent of students, the national average result, and the national minimum standard for each year level. The final page of the report has a table that provides a brief
description of what students have typically demonstrated in the tests at each band.

PNPS Technology Update
The curriculum team at PNPS have been very busy this year with planning, researching and developing ideas to improve our use of ICT within the school and to ensure that our students have access to devices that will prepare them for the future.
New Devices are Coming
After many hours of research we are excited to announce that we have just purchased 45 Samsung tablets and cases to be placed in the infants classrooms and learning Hub to work alongside the iPads. These tablets offer endless opportunities for teachers to engage students in their learning whilst teaching the students valuable technology skills.
We are also beginning the process of updating the computer lab. We are replacing the current ageing desktops with new portable laptops and have already ordered the first 15 laptops to be placed in that room. By the end of this year we hope to of replaced most of the computers in the computer lab. Our vision for the lab is to make it a more engaging and exciting learning space that will cater for, and encourage 21st century learning.
Improvement in Access to WIFI
With all these new devices coming into the school we will also be updating our WIFI access points to ensure that all classrooms and devices will have adequate access to WIFI.
Staff Development
The staff of PNPS have developed a PNPS Weebly Webpage to effectively share quality IT resources. Resources such as websites, web quests, educational videos etc have been added to this webpage, creating a central place for staff to easily locate and share IT resources to enrich classroom programs.
BYOD is on its way (Bring your own device)
We are busily developing our BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) policy and agreement for years 4- 6 with the aim to commence this program in the next couple of weeks. At this stage students will be permitted to bring a device that they already have at home to school. We hope to team up with either HP or Microsoft to discuss buying options for next year. More information about this will come out later this year with the plan to hold an information evening for parents about BYOD and purchasing options.
Homework Club
Please be advised the homework club will not operate next Tuesday, 23rd August and Tuesday, 13th September due to compulsory professional learning being undertaken by PNPS teaching staff between 3.30-6:30pm.

Book Fair News
We would like to thank our parents and friends for supporting our Annual Book Fair. Sales generated $1500 in commissions from Scholastic Australia! What a fantastic result! We will be purchasing new picture books and novels through Scholastic, which will enhance our collection for student loans. There will be no Book Club this Term, due to the new finance system introduction. Our final Book Club for 2016 will be early in Term 4.

Olympathon
Last Tuesday all of the students at Panania North participated in an Olympathon. The opening ceremony was a sea of colour with the flags from 16 different countries. A student from each class carried the torch around our bottom oval.
After the opening ceremony, the children challenged their physical abilities by participating in different activities which centred around the Olympic Games. The weather was great and the students enjoyed all of the events. It was wonderful to see the support of our parents who attended the day and encouraged our students in their activities.
At the closure of the day, all students received a wrist band for their participation. Thank you to the P and C for providing tea and coffee on the day to our parents and organising the prizes and online sponsorship for our fundraising event.
