IBM INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS (IMS™) MIGRATION

AND MODERNIZATION - CONVERSION OF HIERARCHICAL DL/1

STRUCTURES TO RDBMS

Leverage the technology and operational advantages inherent within the modern

platforms and databases without having to change applications.

HTWC’s proprietary technology entails the most complete range of tools and utilities offering clients a scalable and native environment to Migrate their legacy applications and data from IMS TM and DB to a wide array of open target platforms and databases, greatly increasing the performance and flexibility, offering new dimensions in IT economics

IMS

TM

– IBM INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

IMS DC/DB is the original IBM Mainframe Transaction Monitor based upon hierarchical data structures. This robust Mainframe environment hosts the applications of many major organizations world-wide, most notably many of the world’s leading banks of which the Federal Reserve is probably the most famous example. This is testament to the Reliability, Availability, Security and Scalability features, characteristics which deem the IMS to be a key element in IT environments world-wide.

On the down side, the IMS TM is hosted upon an aged, cumbersome

and rigid with plenty of scope for economical improvements. This is somewhat of a conundrum.

BEST OF BOTH WORLDS.

Organizations can now Migrate the Legacy Applications and IMS DC/ DB Services to more cost effective, efficient and scalable operating environments, as well as convert the hierarchical databases to more efficient Relational Database Management Systems

ENGAGING EXPERTS TO MAKE IT HAPPEN

XFRAME and H2R, the middleware from HTWC enabling the migration of IMS TM Legacy applications onto a more cost effective and

performance efficient, open & relational environment

With XFRAME, it is possible to run the core IMS TM legacy applications

on open systems, leveraging of their state of the art technologies and integration features, whilst retaining the Reliability, Availability and

Servicability characteristics of the IMS environment.

In essence, the XFRAME suite, replicates the functionality of IMSTM,

enabling the seamless integration of legacy applications and data into the new environment without any changes to underlying logic, communication or processes. It contains a transaction server to execute IMS TM and a complete batch environment.

XFRAME supports the most important compilers for COBOL, PL/I and C as well as many standard middleware solutions such as, IBM WebSphere, MQ and LDAP servers. Through its Extended Architecture (XA) interface, XFRAME supports all RDBMS.

TCP/IP and SOAP based services offer the possibility to deliver legacy services across the enterprise, providing the foundation for developing modern infrastructures such as a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). With a complete set of tools and utilities, along with support for a wide range of target platforms, XFRAME offers the most complete migration solution on the market today.

ENABLES DIRECT, RELATIONAL SQL ACCESS TO

IMS DATA

H2R (Hierarchical to Relational) from HTWC is a sophisticated application which facilitates the transformation of data from ims db hierarchical data structures to RDBMS such as SQL, db2 and oracle, whilst creating automatically a gateway which enables the applications to continue to interface with the data without any changes.

Data transformation and target environment definition:

H2R is equipped with a powerful analyzer to perform the automated data migration. The analyzer collects all the necessary information from hierarchical data structures, allowing H2R to generate a set of import programs for the relational database.

These programs resolve differences between source and target databases, such as data coding, field type, redefines, dirty fields, and more. If necessary, import programs allow you to retain specified fields when moving from an EBCDIC to an ASCII environment, maintaining

the same processing sequence. without any changes to applications or business logic.

AS well as the Transformation component, H2R also generates an application Gateway which ensures no changes are required to applications.

Benchmarks display a major improvement of performance as well as the greater availability of qualified administrators and compatible standard applications.

STRATEGY

The incremental savings generated by eliminating annual IBM IMS software licenses and related mainframe third-party software utilities can be directly applied to an organization’s bottom line or redirected to new IT initiatives

such as end user interface modernization, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Application Modernisation or rewrite.

Advantages:

• Annual cost reduction of between 40–80%

applications and data on open systems

• Minimizes risk by preserving existing application and business logic Enables direct, relational SQL access to legacy IBM IMS data • Supports IBM IMS Connect and MFS screen functionality • Provides a proven platform for future application evolution

HTWC SOLUTION STACK

HTWC has been engineering migration solutions for more that quarter of a century resulting in the widest array of proprietary Software, Tools, and Methodologies designed to efficiently migrate, consolidate and operate a myriad of application and data types from diverse Mainframe environments, into a homogenous, efficient, scalable and more cost effective Windows environment.

The HTWC highly automated project methodology is completely scalable, with each step adding immediate value to the application environment
