We're passionate about the power of education to change lives. new careers, new skills, new opportunities – there are many ways to change your life at unitec. there are 160 programmes on offer and thousands of possible careers. from accounting to zookeeping, and boatbuilding to photography. But no matter what you study, our programmes are career focused, industry recognised and full of hands-on experience. many of them include work experience, field trips or visits from industry experts. Which means when you go out in the workplace, you'll be ready to hit the ground running.
We know each student is different. after all, we have 23,000 of them – of all ages, from over 80 countries, and with different hopes and dreams. that's why we're flexible, with full-time or part-time study options, programmes from certificate to postgraduate level, and three campuses across auckland. and if you need some extra support to help you make the most of your time with us, that's no problem either.

We’re looking into it. if you’re interested in how information and communications technologies (iCt) can change people’s lives, join us. our computing courses keep pace with constantly evolving technology. our industry advisory board makes sure of that. and that applies to all of our programmes – from a one-semester certificate to new Zealand’s first doctor of Computing. We cover everything from system analysis, software design and website development to network design and security, and mobile and web application development. it’s computing for the real world – with practical assignments, guest lectures by industry experts, work experience and applied postgraduate research.
did we mention that the department of Computing is home to new Zealand’s first Cybersecurity research Centre? opened in 2012 in collaboration with Japan’s national institute of information and Communications technology (niCt), it’s an example of cutting-edge technology being developed right here on campus.

then there’s the new iBm delivery Centre – the first in new Zealand – which opened at our mt albert campus in 2013. as well as jobs for unitec students and graduates, working with iBm means mentoring programmes, scholarships and internships with one of the biggest names in business and it consulting. you’ll learn from staff who are members of industry organisations and who have work published in international journals. Some work as consultants to the it industry and quite a few of them are involved in applied research. from high-speed networks and data mining, to internet security and robotics, find out more about the skills and specialities of our teaching staff at www.computing.unitec.ac.nz and because good ideas don’t stick to a schedule, our computing labs are open seven days a week, always just a card swipe away.

iBm’s first new Zealand delivery Centre is based at our mt albert campus. the multi-million dollar centre gives businesses access to new skills in mobile and analytics, as well as advanced technology. it’s part of iBm’s global network of more than 50 centres, which deliver innovative solutions and iCt services to clients around the world. the new Zealand delivery Centre is already providing a huge range of services, from human resources to finance and administration, and supply chain management to remote technical support. Exit qualifications
Students who complete the level 5 compulsory courses plus two electives (a total of 120 credits) may exit the programme with a Certificate in Computing Systems. Students who complete 240 credits at levels 5 to 7, including the level 5 compulsory courses and at least 90 credits from level 6 including the level 6 compulsory courses, may exit the programme with a diploma in Computing Systems.

for detailed course information and admission requirements visit www.computing.unitec.ac.nz in your first year, you gain a broad overview of computing and information technology before you specialise in an area of your interest. over the next two years, you move on to systems development or technical computing. our wide range of elective courses allows you to meet your personal interests and career needs.
full-time students should complete 120 to 150 credits a year, and part-time students 60 to 75 credits a year. full-time study requires 12 to 20 hours per week of class time and about 30 hours per week of self-directed study.

Specialise in one of three distinct pathways: data communication/networks, software development or business analysis.

Specialise in one of three pathways: » data communication/networks – develop
troubleshooting skills, design and develop microsoft and linux networks, and learn about network and internet security.
» Software development – expand your skills in desktop, web and multimedia programming. » Business analysis – develop testing skills and your
object oriented analysis abilities using a variety of modelling tools.
Courses are at levels 5, 6 and 7 and most are drawn from the Bachelor of Computing Systems. all courses are electives and are worth 15 credits each. Students usually take three level 6 courses and five level 7 courses.
for detailed course information and admission requirements visit www.computing.unitec.ac.nz Classes for iSCg7141 Computers and Communications technology and iSCg7144 internet applications are held monthly on weekends, supplemented by electronic communications. all other courses will be held for three hours per week for 13 weeks. Some of these courses are held on weekdays between 8.30am and 5pm, others on weekdays between 5.30pm and 9pm.

Students must pass iSCg1001 and obtain at least B- grades for iSCg1002 and iSCg1003 before starting the thesis. there are no exit qualifications.

the indicative fee listed on the page for each
programme in this brochure was the approximate 2013 annual programme fee (including gSt).
programme fees for 2014 have not yet been set and unitec is currently reviewing them in the context of the ministry of education’s fees maxima policy. as soon as they are approved, 2014 fees for these programmes will be available on www.unitec.ac.nz
the indicative fee acts as a guide only. you will be notified of your exact fee when you have enrolled. please do not send any payment until you receive your fee invoice.
the programme fee you pay at enrolment covers tuition and class materials. you will also have to pay a Student Services fee and any applicable nZQa charges. textbooks for your programme are an additional cost. the deadline for payment of student tuition fees is seven days before your programme starts. you can pay by cheque, eftpoS, credit card or in the form of an approved application for a student loan. (you should apply for your student loan as early as possible to avoid processing delays.) once you have your student login, you can also pay online, using myrecords.

you may withdraw from a course by giving written notice to Student Central (te pae Kōrero). if you withdraw from a course before 10 percent of the course has been completed you are generally entitled to a refund of 90 percent of fees. there is no refund of fees if you withdraw after this time, except in exceptional circumstances. for full details, read the admission, enrolment and fees policy available on our website at www.enrolmentinfo.unitec.ac.nz
no record of the enrolment will be entered on your academic record if you withdraw before 10 percent of the course is completed. if you withdraw after 10 percent of the course is completed a grade of W (representing withdrawal from the course) will appear on your academic record.
