New Live Oak Summer Camp

Live Oak is offering a summer camp program this year. Over the last several years, parents have requested a camp

program during holidays and breaks.  This year we have embarked on piloting a camp program for 2 weeks in July (July 17-21 and July 24-28).  If well received, we will look to add other camp options during winter and spring break for the 2017-2018 school year.

Our summer camp is focussed on ART, FOOD & MUSIC. Kids will be joined by Live Oak's own teachers including Ms. Denise, Ms. Meret and Mr. Mark as well as support staff to provide a nurturing and engaging environment for our kids over the break. On top of craft projects, music making, cooking classes and outdoor play, children will also have the opportunity to attend swim sessions at the Petaluma Swim Center.

Please see the flyer below and visit the registration page. After the submission of your enrollment request, registration forms and invoice will be sent.  If you have questions, please contact the office at 707-762-9020 or send an email to

[email protected]

Why sign up for the Petaluma Kids Gran Fondo? Because it’s super fun AND it’s an amazing opportunity for our kids to help other kids AND our school!

Join Live Oak for the 5th annual Petaluma Kids Gran Fondo on Sunday, May 21st. Children will have the chance to challenge themselves on any of 3 different routes from which they choose. They can also choose to ride a bike, walk, run, roller skate, skateboard, wheelchair etc. on one of the 3 courses which include a 1 mile, 4 mile and 7 mile route. Parents (strollers included) and dogs are also welcomed to accompany their kids. There will be an expanded kids expo this year that includes lots of fun STEM activities.

Sixth Grade Knighting Project Takes Off

by David Woodbury, Sixth Grade Parent

For his 6th grade Knighting project, DJ decided to clean the Petaluma River.  After 14 trips in a 3-month period, DJ had collected over a ton of trash (2,215 lbs).  As a result, a ripple effect occurred:  the Friends of the Petaluma River described his effort on their Facebook page which led to an article in the  Santa Rosa Press Democrat, a spot on the local TV news,

and a presentation to the Mayor and Petaluma City Council (which he accomplished with great

confidence).  A local realtor donated pizza to his 6th grade class, which they earned by collecting 400 lbs of trash from Shollenberger Park on a field trip.  The realtor donated $500 to Friends of the Petaluma River in DJ's honor.  Next up was the Butter and Eggs Day Parade, where DJ rode in a convertible with State Senator Bill Dodd and County Supervisor David Rabbitt.  Both men presented DJ with official certificates of accomplishment.  DJ spent a morning on SF Bay aboard the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer's 100 ft. debris vessel Raccoon.  The captain and crew provided him an opportunity to steer the vessel, blow the fog horn, and learn about radar and communication equipment.  DJ learned how the vessel lifts large logs and floating debris from the water to protect commercial and recreational vessels.  Next he
