Thank you for your interest in our Student Affairs programs. Resident Assistants (RAs) play an extremely
important role in enhancing the residential living experience at Tech. Orientation Leaders (OLs) play a
very important part in welcoming and helping new students on campus. We are looking for some special
people who are willing to commit their time and energy to assist others and the institution.
The selection process is designed to simulate experiences and challenges you in ways and areas similar to
those you might encounter as an RA or OL. We will review your application and credentials and then
invite qualified candidates to participate in a personal interview and a group interview. Should you have
any questions about the RA position, feel free to contact Resident Director Michael Sheldon

To be eligible to apply for a position you must be:
A:
A full-time student at WVU Tech
B:
In good academic standing
For RAs: Maintain a semester GPA of a 2.5 and a cumulative of 2.5
For OLs: Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.25
C:
In good disciplinary standing
D:
Willing to make an academic year commitment even though appointments are for only
one semester
E:
RAs need to be knowledgeable of the mission of residential life at WVU Tech.
OLs need to be knowledgeable about the resources available to assist students at WVU
Tech.
The application and three references must be returned to the Campus Life Office by 4:00 PM, March
28
th. One reference should be from a WVU Tech Faculty or Staff member and the other two can be from
anyone who can best judge your skills. For your application to be complete all 3 references must be
completed and submitted by March 28
th.
RA interviews will be scheduled for the week of April 4
th. Those individuals that successfully complete
the interview process will be invited back to participate in a group interview the week of April 11
th.
OL interviews will be scheduled as completed applications are received but no later than the week of
April 4
th. Individuals that successfully complete the process will be invited back to participate in a group
interview the week of April 11
th.
Please be aware that if you are selected as a Resident Assistant, you will be expected to return to campus
on the following dates for training.

A more detailed analysis of your responsibilities will be offered in the training sessions in the spring and

your application. The responsibilities you may be undertaking impose weighty demands on a student and
his or her time. You should, therefore, carefully consider the following items and your commitment to

1. A great deal of time will be demanded of you, not only in "duty hours", but in the "non-duty" hours
and the "continued involvement" in the overall Campus Life program. ______
2. Because of the time commitment involved with being an RA; extra-curricular and co-curricular
involvement will be curtailed at the discretion of the Resident Director and/or
Associate Dean of Students. ______
3. A major part of your responsibility will be to participate in mandatory training sessions devised to help
you work more effectively. These sessions will be held during the spring and fall semesters as often as
deemed necessary by the Resident Director and/or Associate Dean of Students. ______
4. Your job as Resident Assistant will require you to report to the campus as much as a week in advance
to the start of the fall and spring semester classes, and as much as a day before the start of classes after
other break periods (August 4th , January 3th ). ______
5. All Resident Assistants are required to remain on the job after all other students have left for every
break period, including the last semester on the job (Saturday at 6 PM of each break, end of Fall
Semester Saturday at 6 PM, and Spring Semester Sunday at 6 PM). ______

FACTS OF EMPLOYMENT
The Resident Director and/or Associate Dean of Students reserve the right to assign a staff member to any
hall according to the needs of the program and the abilities of the applicants as a group.
Although Resident Assistant appointments are made on a one semester basis only, strong consideration is
given to those interested in one year term of employment. Re-appointments may be made if the RA has
shown that he/she has fulfilled all job expectations to the best of his/her ability. However, WVUIT,
through the Resident Director and/or Associate Dean of Students, reserves the right to transfer a staff
member from one residence hall to another or from one floor to another within the hall, or to terminate the
employment of the RA at any time during employment.
Orientation Leader Applicants
