TODAY’S MATCHUP
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and Kane County Cougars will continue their series with a 7:02 p.m. game at Newman Outdoor Field on Wednesday night. The RedHawks, despite scoring three late runs, could not complete the comeback in Tuesday night’s game and fell 5-3 in the opening game of the series. Fargo-Moorhead will look to get back on track tonight as they are only 3.5 games back of the North Division leaders (Milwaukee and Chicago) with 18 games left in to play in the season. RHP Ryan Flores (7-2, 3.30 ERA) will make the start for the RedHawks tonight and will face RHP Ben Allison (3-3, 5.17 ERA).

FLORES TURNING INTO F-M ACE
After the losing a majority of the starting rotation early in the season, the Fargo-Moorhead Red- Hawks have had to look elsewhere for starting pitching depth, including their own bullpen. RHP Ryan Flores is one of those converted starters and is turning into one of the best starters in the American Association. Flores is 3-0 in his last three starts and has struck out 32 batters com- pared to only two walks in 24 innings pitched in those games. One of those games was a complete game win against Kane County just last week with Flores striking out 15 batters and allowing no walks and only three hits. With 108 strikeouts on the season Flores trails only Myles Smith (109) for the most strikeouts in the American Association this season, however Smith has pitched 10.2 more innings than Flores.

Ryan Flores returns to Fargo-Moorhead for his fifth season of professional baseball and second with the RedHawks. He appeared in 16 games for Fargo-Moorhead in 2020 after being signed on July 19, 2020. He made three appearances for the Winnipeg Goldeyes at the start of the season after being selected by the Goldeyes from Sioux City in Round 8 of the American Association Dispersal Draft — he was released on July 13. Combined, Flores made 19 appearances, all out of the bullpen, in 2020, going 0-2 with a 5.17 ERA in 31.1 innings pitched and finishing eight games. He struck out four batters, walked two, gave up two home runs, and gave up 13 earned runs last season. Flores held opponents hitless in 10 of his 19 appearances in 2020.
Flores began his professional career in 2016 with the Yuma Hammers of the first-year Desert League, striking out 16 batters and pitching to a 2.69 ERA over 20.0 innings pitched, and turned in an impressive rookie campaign for the Sioux City Explorers in 2017. Flores led the club in games pitched with 44 appearances out of the X’s bullpen, which was also tied for fifth most in the American Association. He pitched three seasons for the Explorers before joining Winnipeg last year. In 2018, Flores played in the Australian Baseball League for the Perth Heat, posting a 4.65 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 31.0 innings. He also made one appearance for Diablos Rojos del Mexico in the Triple-A Mexican League in 2019. In 158 appearances (8 starts) over four seasons, Flores has a combined 17-17 record with a 4.21 ERA, 284 strikeouts, 140 walks, eight saves, and 46 games finished.
Flores played two seasons of college baseball at Richland College from 2015-16, going a combined 5-3 with a 4.36 ERA, 85 strikeouts, and one save for the ThunderDucks in 95.0 innings pitched over 24 games (13 starts). In 2016, Flores played for the Savannah Bananas in the collegiate summer wood bat Coastal Plain League, going 4-0 with 3 saves and a 2.21 ERA in 36.2 innings pitched.
