Message from Fr. Michal . . .

I am grateful to get some  me away to  visit  with  my  family  and  friends  and  travel with my friend Fr. Marcin. So far, I

have go en to visit with my parents, priests, and also several local churches. Please know I am keeping you in my prayers during this me away.

Please  extend  a  warm  welcome  to  Msgr.  David  Hoefler  as  your  celebrant  this  weekend  on  the  Most  Holy  Trinity 

Sunday. The mystery of the Holy Trinity

is the central mystery of the faith and life when God reveals himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

 

Congratula ons  to  Judy  Colburn  and  Elaine  Vonderheide,  our  2020  &  2021  Diocesan  Women  of  Dis nc on.    The 2020 celebra on was postponed un l this year, so both ladies will be a ending the special Mass on Saturday, June 5, at the Cathedral in Springfield.

The Feast of Corpus Chris  also known as the Solemnity of  the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ will be celebrated 

on Sunday, June 6. Following the 10:30am Mass, join in the

procession, stopping at four different altars around the Sacred Heart Church. Our First Communicants will lead the procession. Come sing and pray in this procession which concludes with reposi on back inside the church. A light meal with dessert will be served immediately following in the Church Narthex.

 

Anyone Have Flowers to Spare? 

If you would like to donate them for our Corpus Chris procession, there will be vases located in the Narthex for you to place your flowers.

Sacred Heart Parish is seeking an individual for the part‐ me 

posi on of Music  Coordinator.

This posi on is for someone who has a love for Church, people, and music. Responsibili es include: playing Masses (weekend, holy

days, and other celebra ons)

either on the organ or piano (there are several

accompanists to help assist on weekend and holy day Masses), direc ng our Adult Choir and

Resurrec on Choir as well as crea ng musical opportuni es for the youth of our parish. Preference would be that the applicant be Catholic or have a good understanding of the Catholic liturgical prac ces, but not absolutely necessary (mentorship will be available). Pay would be based on experience.

Musicians who would be willing to share their

talent and play weekend Masses here at Sacred Heart either on the organ or the piano. Previous experience and being familiar with the music published by OCP is beneficial. Compensa on will be offered per service played.

Friday,  June  11,  is  the  Solemnity  of  the  Most  Sacred  Heart  of  Jesus  from  which 

our parish is named. To celebrate, we are

having a Mass here at Sacred Heart at 5:30pm with a cookout‐style meal. Immediately following Mass, grilled hot dogs, brats, and Polish sausage (if we can persuade Fr.

Michal) along with chips, veggies, and dessert will be

served in the Narthex. Come a er work for Mass, food, and fellowship!

 

The  Diocese  is  offering  an  online  alterna ve  to  a ending  an  in‐person  Protec ng  God’s  Children 

training  session.   Anyone volunteering in ministries, or

assis ng in the parish and school events, needs to have taken a class. If you are interested, contact Judy Luchtefeld, our Sacred Heart coordinator, by email j.luchtefeld@sheff.org or call 217.821.4060. She will be able to send you step‐by‐step instruc ons on how to complete this online training. Once you have completed this training, a cer ficate will be sent to you.

 

Our Sacred Heart Picnic will be held  on  the  weekend  of  Oct.  2  &  3.   Please note, we will not have a flea market at the picnic this year.  If you

Did you know . . .

Knights  of  Columbus  members  and  volunteers placed flags on Veterans’ grave  sites, in honor of Memorial Day.  

The Effingham Knights of Columbus #665 recognizes all  of  their  deceased  4th  degree  members  with  an  engraved chalice or dona on in their honor.  Recently, Fr. Michal was the recipient of a chalice in memory of Leroy Stroud. The Knights of Columbus help support our priests, seminarians, and religious.

Bingo is held every Tuesday beginning at 7:00pm at the  Effingham Event Center.  Food is served throughout the evening provided by various organiza ons. On the third Tuesday of the month, Sacred Heart Parish CCW is coordina ng food & desserts with proceeds from the sale of food given to the CCW. If you would like to provide food or volunteer to serve, please contact Mary Klein, CCW president, at 217.821.9596 or Vicki Walker at 217.821.6179.

You  are  invited  to  an  Open  House  in  honor  of  Fr.  Dean  Probst’s  40th  Anniversary  of  his  Ordina on  on  Sunday,  May  30,  from  1:00pm  to  4:00pm,  at  the  St.  Thomas  Parish 

Center,  Newton.  He is currently the

pastor of St. Thomas Church, Newton, and St. Mary, Sainte Marie.  Refreshments will be provided along with ice cream from Homewood Grill!

The  Friday  morning  SonRise  gathering  is  moving  forward  with  IN  PERSON

Our Diocese presented a new structure  called “TITHING” and no longer “ACSA”.  

The amount we are expected to the for 2020‐2021 is $67,350.

Your contribu on directly to our Diocese’s Tithing can be in place of your weekly contribu on to Sacred Heart Parish. Put  your  check  payable  to  “Diocese  Parish 

Tithe” with “Sacred Heart” in the memo and place it in  the  collec on  basket  and  we  will  mail  it  for  you. Any

ques ons, please call Mark Volk or Billi Jansen at the parish office at 217.347.7177.

To date, $45,153.30 has been paid to “Tithing”,  leaving a balance of $22,196.70. 

The  Diocese  of  Springfield  sends  each  family  in  the  parish  a  copy  of  the  Catholic Times either  by  mail  or 

electronically.    To date, we have collected $5,920

which leaves a balance due of $2,443.

Over the past three years, the “Invest in  Kids”  program  has  proven  to  be  a  resounding  success.    Working with our

partner “Empower Illinois”, children in our area have been able to a end Sacred Heart School through the scholarships available. Please contact your legislators and urge them to extend and expand the “Invest in Kids” Scholarship Tax Credit beyond the year 2022. For more informa on go to www.ilcatholic.org.

Please  consider  giving  to  our  Sacred  Heart  School 

Annual  Fund. The revenue generated from the Sacred

Heart School Annual Fund strengthens and sustains our opera ng budget. Your gi helps bridge the gap

between the actual cost to educate each SHS student and what we ask our parents to pay. Your gi helps

provide tui on assistance to Sacred Heart parishioners who, otherwise, could not afford to send their children to SHS. Gi s are 100% tax‐deduc ble.
