COMPREHENSION
Read the passage below and answer the questions that following.
Johann Sebastian Bach was a German Baroque composer. He was one of the greatest composers of all time. Sadly, during his lifetime, he was not well known and was mostly recognised for his excellent performance on the organ.
In 1708, Bach was appointed organist and chamber musician to the
Duke of Saxe-Weimar. During the nine years that followed, Bach composed
many of his finest organ compositions and became known as a fine organist. In 171 7, Bach became the chapel master. His duties were to direct and compose music for the church in the court of the music lover, Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Cothen. In 1723, however, Bach left Anhalt-Cothen for Leipzig. He became Cantor, a teacher and director of music of St. Thomas's in Leipzig. Bach remained in Leipzig for the rest of his life.
By 1740, Bach's eyesight was failing. He underwent two major eye
operations which resulted in his complete blindness. These operations also
damaged his health and many speculate that it might just have been that which
hastened his death. He died of a stroke on July 28, 1750.
Bach is buried at St. John's cemetery, Leipzig. Bach's widow, Anna, lived for another decade, dying in poverty in 1760. Bach's death in 1750 marked the end of the Baroque period in music. Bach's works were soon forgotten. Many of his works were not published until a century after his death.
In March 1829, almost 100 years after Bach's death, the composer, Felix Mendelssohn, performed Bach's 'St. Matthew Passion'. This spurred a
worldwide interest in Bach. Bach's works were finally appreciated by the world
- essentially for the first time.

David's Adventure
David wakes up one bright sunny day and decides to go exploring. He
makes some sandwiches, folds up some extra clothes and packs all of this into
his school bag. Then he tiptoes out of the house. He rides his bike to the river, unties his small rowing boat and pushes it from the shore. He drifts lazily down the river for a while, enjoying the sunshine. Then he takes out his oars and
rows until he comes to some flat rocks. He stops for an hour and eats his lunch
while he watches the seagulls dive for small fish.
Suddenly, a rabbit close by catches his attention. It runs quickly past him and mysteriously disappears from sight. David walks over to where the rabbit has disappeared and discovers a small cave close to the beach. He decides to explore it, but the cave proves disappointing. It is small, smelly and uninteresting. So he returns to his boat and rows back upstream.
