T

his is a traditional time for “New Year’s Resolutions; today’s reality is that few people look at

such resolutions seriously, and fewer yet understand and apply the opportunities involved.

The Old Year

There is an image of an old guy with a long beard and a scythe over his shoulder. What does it

mean? Age and beard appropriately signify the passage of time, but the scythe is something else. As

a harvest tool, it has come to symbolize the harvesting of souls and the old man is transformed into

a grinning skeleton as seen on the Waite Tarot’s Death card.

Rather than digging through all our mythological references for the meaning of the scythe, let me

just employ my own imagination for the purpose of this article. Note that, unlike Death, the old

man is not harvesting anything with his scythe. It rests, unused, on his shoulder. There’s nothing

to harvest because of lost opportunities. In other words, YOU (and now I am being personal for a

reason) WASTED TIME AND OPPORTUNITY TO IMPROVE YOUR LIFE!

Yes, of course, we can all look back and admit we could have done better, but you are my reader, and

I am taking my opportunity to say something important to you. At eighty years old I’m that Old

Man, and while I am still working hard and now writing books I think are important, I do look back

with regret at the many wasted opportunities in my own long life.

lOOk Back!

I’m asking you to take the opportunity of the old year ending to look back and really examine your

failures to do a better job. No matter your profession or current employment status, life is a job. It’s

a job because you were born with a purpose, and that purpose is to grow and become more than

you are. Each life is one of the many chapters your soul will write and live – each with the purpose of

learning and growing. Your current self (little “s”) is not your Soul (Higher Self, big “S”) whose job

it is to bring all those chapters together into a complete book.

Look back and determine one single failing. Be genuinely critical and play the role of judge and jury

and convict yourself of this failing. Now, promise judge and jury that you are resolved to make

self-improvement of this particular failing your priority in the coming year.

It’s a simple enough story, and maybe it will even seem a bit humorous, but please treat it as a serious

opportunity. Yes, most New Year’s Resolutions fail and are quickly forgotten.

I am personally asking you to make this self-improvement your goal. Note that we’ve singled out one

single thing that you’ve identified as your major failing last year. Now you are going to overcome

that failing and make it a source of great strength forever more! No matter what your new goal is,

make it a single focus and dedicate yourself to its accomplishment.

Now, turn this into one single, very concise, affirmative statement of accomplishment preceded

with the phrase I AM. Make it positive. Do not say “I am going to stop smoking” but that “I AM

addiction-free.” Do not say “I AM going to lose weight” but that “I AM slim at my ideal weight.”

In general terms, you can do this in either of two ways (and really they each use the same powerful

strength you have in your Subconscious Mind):

1. You can constantly reinforce your conscious resolution by speaking, writing, and performing

that I AM statement at least three times daily, plus at night when you are falling asleep.

Put it on your calendar, have your computer remind you, send yourself reminders.

Do this every day without fail for the whole new year.

2. You can use this same I AM statement in self-hypnosis. Again, do this for the whole New Year.

Yes, there’s more to this than I can write in a few hundred words. I have to refer you to the two books

written by Dr. Joe Slate and myself:

Sell-Empowerment & Your Subconscious Mind and Self-Empowerment

through Self-Hypnosis.

Yes, I could be self-effacing and recommend other books but I would feel dishonest in doing so. Yes,

there are other good books out there on Self-Hypnosis in particular, and some of them published

by Llewellyn, and there are many books I could recommend – but I know these two books are the

best Joe and I could write and I want to recommend the best. I want you to succeed. I want you to

become more than you are.

Secrets and Practices of the Freemasons

Jean-Louis de Biasi

Unlike all other books about the Freemasons,

Secrets and

Practices of the Freemasons is written by an active,

practic-ing 32° Mason. It contains all the details on the origins,

history, and symbology of Freemasonry. Coming from

an author with twenty years of experience, you’ll also

dis-cover the degree system, its roots in the ancient mysteries

of Egypt, and its Hermetic and Qabalistic underpinnings.

For anyone fascinated by the Masonic underpinnings in

Dan Brown’s blockbuster

The Lost Symbol, you can now

discover the truth about the sacred Masonic symbolism

in the U.S. Capitol and the Washington Monument.

Learn about power grids hidden in architecture, Masonic

temples, the teachings of Albert Pike, and much more.

But what really sets this book apart is the complete

infor-mation on Masonic rituals and meditation techniques.

You won’t merely learn about Masonry, you’ll be able to

put their techniques into practice.

Magic’s In the Bag

Jude Bradley & Cheré Dastugue Coen

A talisman is a magical device worn to bring something to you, whether

it is luck, love, health, wealth or protection. One of the most powerful—

and misunderstood—kinds of talismans is the gris-gris bag, derived from

African, Native American, and European culture and used reverently in

the New Orleans Hoodoo tradition. Gri-gris bags contain unique and

pre-cise selections of herbs, roots, stones, shells, and metals, and are

empow-ered by appropriate rituals and spells during their assembly.

Books on this subject have been limited in the past but with the

publica-tion of

Magic’s in the Bag, you can fully experience the power of gris-gris

bags. This comprehensive book reveals the history of gris-gris bags and

spell sachets, what to use for any magical purpose, proper timing, and

provides step-by-step instructions so you can make them. Included are

extensive alphabetical correspondences so you can choose precisely what

you need for any magickal purpose. In no time, you’ll become an expert at

this art and discover how to gain the love, security, safety, and well-being

you want and need!
