Overview

Phi   Theta   Kappa   is   making   available   to   community   college   honors   students   high-‐quality,   online,   international   curricula.     We   seek   to   partner   with   colleges   to   increase   access   to   academically  rigorous  curricula  that  contribute  to  the  development  of  a  global  mindset  and   provide   a   meaningful   credential   from   a   global   university,   an   International   Honors   Certificate  (IHC)  online  courses.    Each  of  the  IHC  online  course  options  will  also  include  a   capstone   International   Leadership   in   Action   &   Discovery   (ILIAD)   designed   by   Phi   Theta   Kappa   to   guide   community   college   honors   students   in   the   creation   of   a   personal,   international,  experiential  learning  plan,  the  development  of  leadership  skills  required  to   successfully   implement   and   complete   the   plan,   and   preparation   for   scholarship   applications   to   fund   international   experiences,   such   as   the   Benjamin   A.   Gilman   International  Scholarship.

The  universities’  tuition  for  the  IHC  online  courses  is  $1,500.00,  but  Phi  Theta  Kappa  has   negotiated   $1,000.00   scholarships   for   community   college   honors   students   (Phi   Theta   Kappa   members   and   those   students   eligible   for   Phi   Theta   Kappa   membership)   to   reduce   the  tuition  to  $500.00  per  student  per  course.

Engaging   students   in   IHC   online   courses   and   developing   their   skills   for   success   in   international   study   experiences   creates   a   new   opportunity   to   recognize   academic   excellence  and  to  develop  scholar  servant  leaders  with  global  perspectives.

Product  Definition

Successful   completion   of   both   an   IHC   Online   Course   and   the   ILIAD   Capstone   Unit   can   earn   three   hours   of   college   credit   from   the   community   college.   The   current   plan   is   to   align   certificates   with   similar   courses   that   are   currently   part   of   the   core   or   transferrable   electives   (to   support   transferability   of   credit   to   other   universities).     Students   will   receive   college   credit   only   upon   completion   of   both   the   IHC   online   course   and   the   ILIAD   capstone   unit.   Alignment   ensures   that   college  credit  applies  toward  the  student’s  AA  degree  and  will  transfer  to  a  4-‐year  university.
