Orientation

Orientation is your first introduction to the University of Manitoba. You’ll meet other students, get a sense of campus life, and learn skills that will help you throughout your education.

Education Access Program (EAP)

The Education Access Program (EAP) is a partnership between the Faculty of Education and the Access Programs. EAP provides eligible students who are admitted to the University of Manitoba Bachelor of Education After Degree program with supports to complete this degree.

To be eligible, students must do the following: • Attend Destination Education workshop(s) • Complete first degree with the Access Programs • Apply for and be admitted to the B.Ed. Program

Please note: Admission to the B.Ed. program is a competitive process, and acceptance to the Access Programs does not imply admission or priority for admission to the B.Ed. program.

Access students who identify teaching as their profession of choice must participate in a workshop series (“Destination Education”) that is designed to enrich their awareness of the teaching field and the B.Ed. program. All

students identifying education as their career choice will be assigned to the designated Access Education Academic counsellor to better track teachable subjects and participation in the Destination Education workshops.

Upon entry to the B.Ed. Program, students will receive academic advising and support from the Faculty of Education.

Health Careers Access Program (HCAP)

Located in Migizii Agamik (Bald Eagle Lodge) at the University of Manitoba’s Fort garry campus, the Health Careers Access Program (HCAP) is exclusive to Aboriginal (Métis, Status, Non-Status, Inuit) residents of Manitoba with a strong interest in becoming Doctors, Dentists, Pharmacists, Nurses, Physical/Occupational/Respiratory Therapists, or Dental Hygienists.

Students will take a general first year to include a minimum of 21 credit hours and a maximum of 24 credit hours. After completion of this year, students will be streamed toward the faculty of choice. The intent of the common first year is to place

significant focus on inter-professional education with the goal of creating more awareness of the diversity of challenges in various professional health fields and to allow for more informed career choices for HCAP students.

Applicants may be required to study Arts and Science courses full time for a maximum of four years. They then apply to a professional health faculty.

The program offers an intensive introductory chemistry credit course, among others, for students who do not have a strong science background. Tutorial-supported physics, anatomy, and physiology courses are also available. Every student is

required to complete a course in health and health professions as well as a summer practicum. For students applying to Medicine or Dentistry, preparatory support is available for the MCAT and DAT.

Once accepted into a professional health faculty, the student becomes part of the Professional Health Program (an extension of HCAP) at the Centre for Aboriginal Health Education located at the University of Manitoba’s Bannatyne campus.
