Medical Assistant Online Refresher Course

Are you a “credentialed medical assistant”? Do you need to become one?

In order to meet meaningful use requirements, medical assistants need to be credentialed to be eligible to enter medication, radiology, and laboratory orders into electronic health records. One of the ways to achieve that credentialing

is to take a certification examination. This MA Refresher Course will prepare you to sit for any one of four exams. You can take the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Certification Examination sponsored by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the American Medical Technologist exam for Registered Medical Assistants (RMA), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) exam for National Certified Medical Assistants (NCMA) or the National

Health Career Association (NHA) exam for Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA).

As a nation and a state, we are struggling to address the transformation of the health care system as we move to a model of team based

team based care opportunities offered in hospitals, medical practices, community health centers and social service settings.

Target Audience

There are a variety of roles and numerous titles that fall under the CHW umbrella: Outreach Worker, Lay Health Advisor, Health Promoter, Patient Advocate, community health advisor, family advocate, liaison, peer counselor, patient navigator, health interpreter and public health aide. Who Am I Going to Be?

African Youth Building Lives in NH

Film

Screening

Opportunity

!

The film “Who Am I Going To Be?” explores the constellation of challenges that African

youth face as they build new lives in NH. Learning to navigate school and community

expectations, adjusting to shifting family roles, and coping the aftermath of conflict and

trauma are parts of their path.

They are made to feel “other” at school. They naturally

learn English faster than parents…ushering in issues of respect, relationship, and family

authority. This film, produced in 2014 in NH, explores the formation of identity and

belonging among teens who have emigrated to New Hampshire, and asks viewers to

think about their own cultural identities, perspectives, and prerogatives.

Host a 90 minute session-including a 43 minute film and a panel discussion!

If you are interested in showing this empowering film within your community please contact

Kaitlyn St. Amand at

[email protected]

or Lynn Clowes at

[email protected]

.

This film is made possible by the NH Charitable Foundation, The NH Humanities Council and other private

donors.

Continuing education credit is available

Target Audience:

Youth services providers, teachers,

health care providers and others interested in learning more

about the cultural fabric of NH

Cost:

There is no cost to host a screening. Donations are

accepted.

Learning Objectives

:

-Discuss some of the ways that family roles shift in

immigrant families in NH.

-Identify some specific challenges that African teens face as

they work to integrate into the US.

-Describe resilience factors that teens draw on to survive

and thrive in a new culture.

What challenges do you think you would

face if you suddenly found yourself starting

over in a new culture? What in your cultural

heritage could you draw on for strength in

challenging circumstances?
