You may stand post after an eight hour course and receiving your guard card. You will
have 30 days to complete your first sixteen hours of training and then six months after
getting your Security Guard card to complete the remaining sixteen hours for a total of
forty. You may elect to take all forty hours of Security Guard card training at one time
also. Prior to renewal of your Security Guard card after January 1, 2005 you must
complete an eight hour refresher course.

I. POWER TO ARREST COURSE OUTLINE
The Power to Arrest Course consists of eight (8) hours of training and the course will consist of lecture, discussions, exercises and role-playing in addition to reading and completing the Department of Consumer Affairs? Power to Arrest Training Manual. Pursuant to Business and Professions Code Section 7583.7. (a) the following outline includes specific subjects that shall be taught in the recommended format.
II. MANDATORY COURSES OUTLINE
Objective: To familiarize and instruct the individual on basic skills and provide a common body of knowledge in the performance of guard work. All courses shall include information and subject matter pertaining to the outline provided. Additionally, all courses shall include written material, lecture or exercises to assure that the individual comprehends the subject matter presented. Two of the mandatory courses shall be completed within the first thirty (30) days from the day the guard registration card is issued (8 hours). The remaining two courses shall be completed within the first six (6) months from the day the guard registration card is issued (8 hours). Pursuant to Business and Professions Code Section 7583.6. (b) the following outline includes subjects that shall be taught and the maximum number of hours that will be allowed toward completion of the Mandatory Courses.
III. ELECTIVE COURSES OUTLINE
Objective: to familiarize and instruct the individual of basic employer requirements in the performance of guard duties. Additionally, to provide the employer and the individual with the opportunity to select additional course work to improve the skills and knowledge of the individual. The listed courses should include a mixture of written materials, lecture and exercises. The hours listed are the maximum number of hours that will be accepted as part of the 16 hours of elective training. A minimum of eight (8) hours of elective courses shall be completed within the first thirty (30) days from the day the guard registration card is issued. An additional eight (8) hours of elective courses shall be completed within the first six (6) months from the day the guard registration card is issued. Pursuant to Business and Professions Code Section 7583.6 (b) the following outline includes subjects that shall be taught and the maximum number of hours that will be allowed toward completion of the elective courses
You may take all 40 hours at one time, the costs is $265.
Powers To Arrest 8 hour must be done at our facility, the remaining 32 hours can be done as
home study. The course materials are on CD, books are PDF files that can be displayed with
Acrobat Reader and the test portion is also in PDF format. After completion of the materials
and the test are turned in you will receive a certificate of completion.
If you plan on carrying a firearms you can do both classes back-to-back and save on the
Livescan fees. If you plan on carrying Pepper Spray you must complete a course in its use and
be certified.

Course
This 8 hour course teaches individuals to respond to sudden illness, injuries and
breathing/cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants. This class is offered at the
Woods Security Training Facility in Indio, CA
Certification
Upon successful completion, students will receive a First Aid certificate valid for 2 years
and a Adult, Child and Infant CPR certificate valid for 2 year.
Refund Policy
Refunds and Transfers will be allowed up to two (2) full working days prior to class,
subject to a $10 processing fee. No refunds or Transfers allowed with less than two (2)

California Concealed Weapon Permit
The concealed weapons permit (CCW) 8-hour course mandated by the Sheriff Department includes
classroom and live-fire range time to qualify. You must qualify with the weapons you are going to carry.
The four-hour course is for
prior
permit holders, it includes classroom and live-fire time to re-qualify as
required by the Sheriff Department.

Johnnie B Woods
Principle
Johnnie B Woods has an extensive background in Law Enforcement, Supervision and Management, Security, Executive Protection, and Training Program Development. In his 30 years in Law Enforcement and Supervision, he served with the Indio Police Department, the Riverside County Coroners Office, and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Johnnie Woods, former Vice President and Director of Training for the Coachella Valley Security Academy, developed an impressive security guard training program for the Academy. He trained the teaching staff and conducted class room instructions as well.
His formal education includes an Associate Degree from College of The Desert in Police Science, and a Bachelors Degree from Pepperdine University in Public Administration. He has received extensive training in executive protection; police baton; defensive tactics, and firearms instruction through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Secret Service, and is certified by the FBI as an instructor. Johnnie holds a lifetime college level teaching credential from the California Department of Education and has taught law enforcement and defensive tactics subjects for many years. Johnnie is also certified as an instructor in martial arts by The American Federation of Independent Shotokan Karate Associations and is a licensed pilot with a single engine rating.
During his law enforcement career, Johnnie participated in and trained law enforcement officers in specialized security operations for the protection of many high ranking elected government officials visiting the Coachella Valley and also was instrumental in development of the Larson Justice Center security system. He is a certified instructor for The American Red Cross and with Bureau Of Security And Investigative Services (BSIS) as a firearms, baton instructor and all BSIS training courses. Johnnie is a veteran and a member of the Peace Officers Research Association of California, ASIS International, Resort Communities Security Association, and Community Associations Institute.
