Bright presentations

Epson 3LCD projectors have a high Colour Light Output, which ensures you get bright images with vivid colours every time. Colours are up to three times brighter than 1-chip DLP projectors5. This means true to

life colours and accurate details in cases where there’s no room for error – in evidence cases for example.

Confidential printing

The public sector handles sensitive case studies, people’s personal details, legal evidence and much more. This requires confidential printing solutions.

• WorkForce Pro printers enable confidential printing via a secure PIN code. They also support the latest security and encryption protocols, including IPSEC and IEEE802.1x. • Email Print for Enterprise enables easy

email printing of sensitive documents with job processing and release, which remain within the company firewall. Meaning you can release prints at the printer of your choice to ensure confidentiality.

• DURABrite Ultra Ink delivers laser-like text on multiple job types so more printing can be done in house, with less compromise to security.

SafE and SECURE

all organisations need their information to be secure,

but in the public sector that requirement is paramount.

the bigger picture

Epson large-format printers come into their own for the military and the police, where legal justice or even national security is at stake.

• The SureColor SC-T Series is the perfect tool to print big aerial maps, town maps, floor plans, forensically detailed evidence photography and large CAD designs. They can print onto boards up to 1.5mm thick, ideal for presenting cases.

• The SureLab D700 is a digital dry lab for printing high-quality, highly detailed photos in-house – perfect for evidence files destined for court, or high-resolution headshot photos for use on IDs and passports.

(9)

Secure scanning

Our business scanners offer multiple security options.

• Sensitive documents can be scanned to a secure PDF which is password-protected.

• Access to the scanner can be limited by protecting the control panel itself with a password.

• A pre-defined list of destinations restricts where your scan ends up. • Your entire networked scanner fleet can

be centralised, giving you maximum control and management.

Secure saving

The high volumes of documents needed in the public sector – anything from

spreadsheets and letters to audio/ visual files, all require secure storage and archiving. The

Discproducer™ offers tamper-proof storage of data, particularly relevant for judicial data. • Once burned, a disc cannot be altered or

manipulated in any way and it’s 100% virus resistant.

• Get extra security for highly confidential data with a door lock on the PP-100N, preventing unauthorised opening of the door or removal of media.

hassle-free equipment

Let Epson get on with the job, and you can get on with yours. More reliable technology means less downtime, so it’s ready when you need it.

• High-capacity ink cartridges are incredibly easy to replace. Just push and click the new cartridge into place.

• WorkForce Pro printers have no drum, fuser unit or transfer unit, unlike lasers. With fewer working parts, they’re robust and reliable — and ready when you need them. • Set up the Discproducer and it will

publish 30 CDs, 15 DVDs or 8 BDs an hour unattended. An internal robotic arm ensures accuracy.

Intelligent presenting

Epson projectors bring your training workshops and presentations to life. • The EB-1400Wi interactive meeting

room system combines the benefits of interactive whiteboards and paper flipcharts in a single integrated system. • Dual annotation pens encourage

colleagues to make their own contribution to the session. • It is simple to save work from a

presentation to a USB, a network location or to share the work via email.

RELIaBLE adMInIStRatIOn

the public sector has a huge requirement for all kinds

of printed materials, for all manner of departments.

Equipment must be tough and reliable enough to meet constant demands. When you’re dealing with people’s personal details and forensic documents, you can’t leave anything to chance, strict security standards need to be met and reliability is paramount.

Cross-network

projector control

Facilities managers can’t get enough of our EasyMP software. It allows them to control and monitor every projector across a network.

• The software alerts administrators when lamps need to be replaced, and enables them to adjust projector settings and switch off units remotely. By reducing power consumption, you save money too. • EasyMP allows you to monitor and

control all projectors across one network. This means users can be proactive, which reduces downtime and ensures projectors are available when required.

GREEnER OPERatInG

the public sector probably faces more stringent targets to

reduce its emissions and carbon footprint than any other.

At Epson it’s a point of principle to develop clean technologies, and to design products that consume less power. We have engineered our entire range of products to be cleaner and greener.

Clean technology

The new WorkForce Pro printers use PrecisionCore technology to help you meet your green compliance targets.

• Epson’s clean, no heat technology produces no ozone gas or any fan noise during or after printing.

• The WorkForce Pro Series uses up to 80% less power than comparable lasers7

and occupies a smaller footprint as no ventilation space is needed around the printer.

• The long-lasting Replaceable Ink Pack System can print up to 75,000 pages without changing the ink, meaning reduced waste, transport costs and environmental impact.

Efficient projectors

• Our projectors are packed with features, including an eco mode which reduces the power consumption and extends the lamp life.

• EasyMP software allows facilities managers to monitor and control all projectors across a network.

• Epson scanners come with ReadyScan technology, eliminating warm-up time. They also feature a useful power-saving sleep button.

(13)

Smaller footprint

By making every effort to design smaller products, we use fewer valuable resources in manufacture, packaging and transport, so they are carbon efficient and more environmentally friendly. At the end of the product’s lifecycle, there is less material to recycle or dispose of.

Green storage

The Blu-ray disc™ technology in our

Discproducer has the lowest energy consumption of all data storage

technologies. Data can be securely stored with no need to re-write CDs, DVDs or BDs for up to 100 years. This far-sighted technology saves energy and provides long-term efficiencies too.

Case Study

Sharp images of the

smallest subject

“In order to be able to depict the details of an experiment precisely, for example, we require projectors to be able to depict light-intensive, high- contrast images with high-quality colour,” states Thomas Baron, Section Leader AV and Collaborative Services IT-Department – UDS group at CERN.

Not least for this reason, in 2011 CERN opted to purchase Epson’s systems. Epson 3LCD projectors are able to display colour and monochrome images at full brightness, vital for the presentation of abstract correlations. In addition, they supply flicker-free images, they are inexpensive to purchase and maintain and – a further important point – they can be managed completely via a network.

“All AV systems at CERN must be able to be monitored and controlled via our network,” says Thomas Baron. Today, a CERN server monitors and controls all projectors with the aid of Epson’s EasyMP software. Because the Epson projectors are inherently RJ45-compatible, employees can simply connect them to their laptop by network connection.

high-tech research

Fundamental research has been under way at the Geneva site since 1954. It has changed our basic understanding of the world and continues to change it. These types of research establishment thrive on ongoing exchanges with the world of science, economics, politics and other public spheres. They rely on presenting themselves and their work appropriately and offering the best possible work environment.

From a statistical viewpoint, 38 employees share each of CERN’s meeting rooms. 260 conference rooms are available to the 10,000 users and employees of the research institute in the Swiss district of Geneva for scientific exchange. Many of these rooms are equipped with state-of-the- art Epson AV equipment – also a ‘must’, as fundamental research is unthinkable today without precise visualisation of the experiments conducted and theoretical considerations. This is why around 70 high-quality projectors from Epson’s series have found a home at the institute and assist scientific exchange within the work teams. They aid understanding of the complexity and backgrounds to the experiments in which particles collide almost at the speed of light and show a brief insight of how the world is held together at its core.

Audimax projection

In addition to normal meeting rooms, Epson projectors are also used in the central lecture theatres at CERN, and in Audimax too. The IT department opted for two high-end projectors from the EB-Z8000 Series. With their white and colour light brightness of up to 7,000 lumens, the integrated devices supply an extremely bright image with true-to-life colour – ideal for large function rooms. The systems were installed at the beginning of 2011 and provide assistance in lectures or the presentation of new projects and experiments to the public.

The option of control via the network has special relevance in the central lecture theatre of the institute. As the CERN administrators can read off the operating condition of the devices, their lamps and filters via a central control desk, maintenance work which would otherwise be costly is reduced to only that which is strictly necessary. In Epson’s EB-Z8000 Series, special electrostatic filters are also used which only need to be replaced every 10,000 operating hours. Even the lamps only need to be replaced every 2,500 to 3,500 hours.

projectors we

used previously,

Remote maintenance

feature

Projection is now a standard feature of operating a teaching and research institution. The example of CERN shows that especially large institutions also have particular requirements with regard to ease of maintenance and administration.

“The crucial factor for us in opting for Epson was the flexibility of device connection options, their connectivity and, associated with this, the option of controlling all projectors via a web interface,” summarises Thomas Baron.

The Head of AV plans further harmonisation of the projector infrastructure at CERN in the coming months. It is therefore recommended that all CERN users only use the EPSON projectors available in the internal storerooms of the research centre. Baron expects that the cost of the projector inventory will continue to decrease as service and support will be provided completely via the network in future. In order to assist the institute in this process, Epson has entered into a detailed service agreement in cooperation with qualified trade partners on site.
