THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Senior Business Analyst

Reporting to: Head of Strategy and Architecture

Responsible for: Business Analysts x 2

Role Purpose: Business process improvement: The identification of new and alternative approaches to performing business activities. The analysis of business processes, including recognition of the

potential for automation of the processes, assessment of the costs and potential benefits of the new approaches considered and, where appropriate, management of change, and assistance with implementation. May include the implementation of a process management capability/discipline at the enterprise level.

Business Analysis: The methodical investigation, analysis, review and documentation of all or part of a business in terms of business functions and processes, the information used and the data on which the information is based. The definition of requirements for improving processes and systems, reducing their costs,

enhancing their sustainability, and the quantification of potential business benefits. The creation of viable specifications and acceptance criteria in preparation for the construction of information and communication systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Business process improvement

o Analyses business processes; identifies alternative solutions, assesses feasibility, and recommends new approaches.

o Contributes to evaluating the factors which must be addressed in the change programme.

o Helps establish requirements for the implementation of changes in the business process.

Business analysis

o Takes responsibility for investigative work to determine business requirements and specify effective business processes, through improvements in information systems, information management, practices, procedures, and organisation change.

o Applies and monitors the use of required modelling and analysis tools, methods and standards, giving special consideration to business perspectives.

o Conducts investigations at a high level for strategy studies, business requirements specifications and feasibility studies.

o Prepares business cases which define potential benefits, options for achieving these benefits through development of new or changed processes, and associated business risks.

o Builds appropriate and effective business relationships.

o Takes customer requirements into account when making proposals.

o Demonstrates creativity and innovation in applying solutions for the benefit of the customer/stakeholder

o Analyses requirements and advises on scope and options for continuous operational improvement.

o Makes decisions which impact the success of assigned projects i.e. results, deadlines and budget.

o Performs an extensive range and variety of complex technical and/or professional work activities.

o Advises on the available standards, methods, tools and applications relevant to own specialism and can make appropriate choices from alternatives

o Works under broad direction, is fully accountable for meeting allocated technical and/or project/supervisory objectives.

o Has a significant role in the delegation of responsibilities and mentors colleagues

o Takes account of relevant legislation.

This job description reflects the current requirements of the role. As duties and responsibilities change and develop, this will be reviewed and will be subject to amendment in consultation with the post-holder.

PERSON SPECIFICATION CRITERIA ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE HOW TO BE MEASURED QUALIFICATIONS

Educated to Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) Level 5 – Bachelor Degree, Foundation Degree, HND or HNC, or has relevant professional qualification.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Is familiar with a range of analysis, modelling and design methods; has broad current knowledge of IT standards, applications and trends.

Is able to obtain information from business people in face to face situations, and to analyse information on users’ occupational tasks obtained by a variety of formal and informal means.

Has an analytical and creative approach to problem solving.

Staff Management Experience

Has a good understanding of alternative software engineering life cycles for development and the concepts and practices required to implement effective information systems.

Possesses a broad understanding of business and business Skills, and understands the significance of commercial constraints.

Is able to recognise potential assignments outside own areas of specialisation and bring to bear appropriate expertise as necessary.

INFORMATION ON TERMS AND CONDITIONS SENIOR BUSINESS ANALYST

Contract type: Permanent

Annual Salary: £30,000 - £32,000 per annum plus £4,452 London weighting

Annual Leave: 22 days per annum plus bank holidays

Hours to be worked: 35 Hours per Week

Location: 199 Borough High St, London SE1 1AA

6 month probationary period

Employment subject to satisfactory references and medical clearance.
