Suva can help you

Many people are exposed to hazards in their

pro-fession. Some try to find their thrills, the

out-of-the-ordinary and adventure in their leisure time. They

all have to face the challenges of everyday life again

and again. That takes courage and powerful

sup-port. This is where Suva can help.

(5)

More than just insurance

Suva insures people at work and at leisure, so they

can go their way without fear – day after day. But

Suva is more than just insurance: it not only helps

people after an accident or an occupational

dis-ease. With its prevention programs, Suva is

com-mitted to ensuring that nothing ever gets that far.

Consequently, Suva prevents a great deal of human

suffering while lowering the cost of insurance at

the same time. With the help of closely monitored

rehabilitation and reintegration, it offers holistic

support to people affected by a stroke of fate.

Every day, occupational safety prevention programmes

prevent accidents and illnesses in people’s daily working

life. They promote a culture of safety in the workplace

and motivate people to accept personal responsibility.

Prevention

(9)

Occupational safety

Suva wishes to contribute towards safety in the work-place, the aim being to prevent accidents and save lives. Its safety specialists, doctors, trainers and con-sultants help companies to prevent occupational ac-cidents and diseases. They offer support by providing employers and employees with effective prevention

offers. Suva gives the people involved the knowledge they need to enable them to consciously accept re-sponsibility and accountability. And they accompany and monitor companies on the spot.

Prevention

Suva’s leisure time safety prevention campaigns make people

aware of hazards in sport and play, at home or while hiking.

They also help people to act courageously in full awareness

of the risks in their leisure time.

(13)

Leisure time safety

Every year, Suva registers an average of more than a quarter of a million leisure time accidents. The con- sequences of these accidents suffered by workers in their spare time affect all of those who are involved: in addition to the victims’ pain and deprivation, their long periods of absence and the cost of healing and therapy lead to significant costs and expenses for employers. Suva responds proactively with numerous

prevention modules that address the risk of leisure time accidents. Experience-oriented modules on topics such as football, snow sports, cycling or falling are easy to implement irrespective of company size. Through campaigns with a wide appeal as well as individual advice, Suva motivates people to take a safety-conscious approach to their behaviour.

Insurance

Suva protects around two million insurees from the consequences

of accidents and occupational diseases. With risk-based premiums

and its sustainable investment policy, it supports Switzerland as

a workplace. And gives people courage for the future.

(17)

Insurance and financing

Half of Switzerland’s workforce are insured with Suva. They gain protection from the economic consequences of occupational accidents and diseases and leisure time accidents. Insurance premiums are calculated on the basis of risk, external factors and claims experience. By focusing on careful, preventive behaviour on their premises, companies can positively influence the

num-ber of accidents and thus the premium amount in their risk class. Suva’s capital assets are tied to cover its statutory financial obligations towards its insurees and, in particular, around 100,000 pensions. Suva returns any profits beyond these mandatory obligations and essential reserves to its insurees.

With its holistic claims management, Suva accompanies accident

victims from their potentially life-changing event through to their

re-turn to everyday life and daily work. Every year, thousands of people

recover in the rehabilitation clinics in Bellikon and in Sion, working

hard to gain renewed courage for their return to normal working life.

Rehabilitation

(21)

Claims management and rehabilitation

Following an accident, Suva offers comprehensive care in the form of insurance benefits, counselling and rehabilitation to those concerned. Rapid reintegration is a key concern. With holistic claims management, Suva shows how people have better chances of re-covery and a speedy return to everyday life and work – as long as they are cared for intensively and

compe-tently from an early point in time after an accident and by their entire surroundings to the greatest possible degree. Suva keeps costs under control with no re-strictions on its members’ benefits – with active claims management, intensive dialogue with its service pro-viders as well as consistent measures designed to contain costs.
