Education
• Freshman Engineering Program
– Students who are undecided or do not get in to the program of their choice but are directly admissible to at least one engineering discipline
• EASE
– Students who are not directly admissible to engineering or technology programs
• Freshman Learning Center
– Fall 2012
Engineering Facilities
• Baldwin Hall
• Engineering Research Center (ERC) • Rhodes Hall
• Old Chemistry • Victory Parkway
Special Facilities, Services, and
Programs
• College Computing
– All students get 600 prints
– Labs available in Baldwin 548 and 550, Baldwin 860B and D (library), Old Chem 614, 825, and 834, and
ERC 616-617 (24 hr)
– Office of College Computing has color printing for projects and offers many software packages for free – Remote Desktop Available for Matlab, remote
printing, etc.
– Expected change for fall 2012 – all freshmen required to have laptops by beginning of first year
Special Facilities, Services, and
Programs
• Bearcat Transit Service

Special Facilities, Services, and
Programs
• Rowe Center for Women’s Studies
– Room only for women’s use (though if you are a man do not swipe your card to prove it
doesn’t open for you)
• Society for Women Engineering
– Specialized Events for Women in Engineering
• Emerging Ethnic Engineers
– Groups that are minorities in engineering are invited for summer program and extra course support
Special Facilities, Services, and
Programs
• Learning Communities
– Students in groups of ~20 have upper classman advisor
– Students take all courses together
– Students in LCs are less likely to drop engineering
• Honors Program
– University wide program – No Special Application
Integrated Freshman* (and
beyond) Curriculum
• All freshmen take same courses independent of major
– Calculus 1&2, Chemistry 1, Engineering Models, English Composition, Engineering Fundamentals – Purpose is to allow freshmen flexibility amongst
majors
– Schools are attempting to work out school specific curricula for first 2+ years
*curriculum not yet fully integrated but hopefully will be by fall 2013
ACCEND Program
• Students no longer apply to ACCEND from high school, but apply for it at the end of
their first year
• 5 – Year Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree
– Students have increased number of options including M.Eng programs and Master’s in Engineering Managament
