Cybertill Customer Own Hardware & Software
Specification & Requirements including Exceptions V7.5
Please note that this minimum specification is a guide only and many
environmental variables outside of Cybertill control can affect the performance of
the Cybertill application on customer hardware. Thorough testing should be
performed on all hardware to be used with Cybertill prior to go live to ensure that
customer expectations are met.

4. 64 Bit vs 32 Bit
32 bit Microsoft Windows 7 or Windows POSReady 7 is the Cybertill recommended
operating system. Most of the Atom Processers within current till hardware only support 32 bit.
64 Bit systems can be used as a Till or back office PC with the following restriction; Cybertill is 32 bit Internet Explorer compatible. As such any 64 Bit system running
Cybertill would need the shortcuts adjusting to point to the 32 Bit Version of Internet Explorer.
5. Imaging
If the customers current Operating System does not meet specification they will need to change the Operating system to one that does.
While Cybertill can supply guidelines as to the recommended build requirements the customer is ultimately responsible for replacing (not upgrading) the current
Operating System.
Cybertill are not responsible for supporting the browser or operating system.
Any Operating System change must be done before the engineer attends to perform the Cybertill install, this must be done as a fresh install and not an upgrade.
Failure to install the Operating System as above or any requirement by the installing engineer to alter the customer’s image for example having to remove old till
software or OPOS could result in an aborted install unless previously agreed with tech installations.
6. Internet Browsers
Microsoft Windows 7 Microsoft Internet Explorer 10 and Internet Explorer 11
(32 bit)
Microsoft Windows POSReady 7
Microsoft Internet Explorer 10 and Internet Explorer 11 (32 bit)
Microsoft Windows 8.1 Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 (32 bit)
Microsoft Windows 10 Microsoft Internet Explorer 11 (32 bit)
Microsoft Edge is not supported for POS/Till or Back Office
No other browsers such as Firefox, Opera or Chrome are currently supported
7. Available Serial Ports for Peripherals
1 x serial port is required for each serial device. These devices will include Chip and Pin and receipt printer and could also include Customer Display Unit and touchscreen.
Additional serial ports can be added by the use of PC riser cards that attach to the PC mainboard such as PCI or PCI-e cards, or by PCMCIA/Express Card interface cards. There are many types of these cards and Cybertill cannot guarantee compatibility with 3rd party cards. All drivers for these cards should be pre-installed by the customer.
Additional serial ports supplied by the use of a USB-serial convertor cables cannot be used with Cybertill. USB created com ports can vary port number on boot up and as such cannot be used with a retail system that requires fixed port mapping.
There must be a spare 9 pin serial port for any new devices to be added. The customers till may have the RJ48 type serial connectors. If they do then this will also require the TILL SPECIFIC RJ48 to serial connector cable. This is the customer’s responsibility to supply.
8. Available ports for USB devices
An additional USB port per USB connected device is required (USB connected devices include keyboards*, mice*, barcode scanners and barcode printers etc..).
Cybertill advise against the use of USB hubs to provide additional USB ports, many retail devices draw power from USB ports and can overload USB hubs causing equipment failure. *Keyboards and Mice may be connected via PS2 connection instead of USB however new tills do not come with PS2 ports and so old PS2 keyboards and mice will not connect.
8. Hard disk Size & Space
Minimum 40GB hard drive with 10GB free space.
9. Anti-Virus/malware
Cybertill recommend that functioning and up to date Anti-Virus and anti-malware Software is installed on all tills, laptops and PC’s.
Installed AV is quite memory intensive, please account for this in minimum RAM requirement AND test thoroughly.
If the customer is using their own Anti-Virus, they must switch off on access scanning
10. Supported receipt printers.
All receipt printers MUST be serial if Chip and Pin is to be run though the till. USB printers
can be installed but only on systems that will not ever run TNS. Most USB printers
also have a serial port. This should be confirmed with the customer and verified by photo. Parallel printers are no longer supported although the customer will be able to purchase an interface card for Epson Printers
Supported Printers;
Epson TM-88 IV, V
TM-T88V-I (for use with iPad) Maxatec LK-MT150, LK-MT200 Aures Posligne ODP 200
Aures ODP333

Orient BTP-880NP Star (any)

11. Supported Barcode Scanners
We do not support PS2 scanners of any sort (most modern tills or PC’s do not have a PS2 port)
Supported Scanners;
Honeywell MS7120 Honeywell MS9540 Honeywell MS9590
Honeywell Voyager 1202g (Bluetooth) Honeywell Voyager 1450g
While other USB scanners should work it is usually required to set the scanner to be able to read the 13 digit codes that Cybertill produce. It is the customer’s responsibility to
provide the engineer with the codes to do this at the time of installation.
Please confirm that your current Barcode scanner can read the above 2 codes by opening notepad and scanning the codes. Please count the number of digits in notepad compared to the barcodes. There should be 13 digits for the first code. If there is not you will need to re-configure your scanner to read the leading digit or replace the scanner.
12. Supported Barcode Printers and label sizes
Zebra TLP/LP 2844 Zebra TLP/LP 2824
Zebra GC420d/Zebra GC420t Citizen CL-S631
Minimum supported label size is 38x25mm
13. Supported Customer Display units

Not supported (ie. previously failed validation); Any USB Customer display unit
14.Networking
Cybertill recommends that network connectivity is provided by fixed infrastructure CAT5e or CAT6 cabling.
Cybertill does not recommend the use of Wireless or Ethernet over power (Powerline). Networking provided by Wireless or Powerline can be unreliable due to local differences such as range, wall thickness, signal blocking devices such as Fridges and microwaves, other users on Wireless within range etc, Powerline adapters can have their range and reliability affected by onsite wiring quality, surge protected plugs, AC adapters and other local issues. As such Cybertill cannot offer support with these types of networking.
15. Upgrading Tills to Windows 7 from Windows XP
As Microsoft Windows XP is now end of life, some customers may choose to upgrade their current tills rather than purchase new ones. Kelway do offer a service to upgrade Cybertill supplied tills to 2GB RAM and to Windows 7 Professional operating system. The table below shows which tills are able to be upgraded;
