Performance r12
CA NetSpy™ Network Performance (CA NetSpy) enables organizations
to more efficiently manage the performance of their SNA networks.
CA NetSpy is a performance management monitor for SNA networks
that helps you efficiently optimize your SNA resources, as well as
measure and maximize the overall performance of both the host and
network.
Overview
Solving network response time problems is often approached with a ‘‘trial-and-error’’ methodology. When end users are suffering response time delays, IT attempts to identify the source of the bottleneck and return response time to normal. If the correct solution is not found, the process begins again, further impacting the business. CA NetSpy eliminates this time-consuming practice by allowing you to manage your SNA network performance proactively, helping you ensure that your business can efficiently and effectively deliver to its customers.

Features
Mainframe 2.0
CA NetSpy has adopted key Mainframe 2.0 features that are designed to simplify your use of CA NetSpy and enable your staff to install, deploy and maintain it more effectively and quickly. CA Mainframe Software Manager™: CA Mainframe Software Manager (CA MSM) automates
CA NetSpy deployment and maintenance and removes SMP/E complexities.
— The Software Acquisition Service enables you to easily move product installation packages and maintenance from CA Support Online directly to your mainframe environment and prepare them for installation.
— The Software Installation Service standardizes CA NetSpy installation, which includes a new, streamlined Electronic Software Delivery (ESD) method that allows CA NetSpy to be installed using standard utilities. This service also provides standardized SMP/E product installation and maintenance via APARs and PTFs, and simplifies SMP/E processing through an intuitive graphical user interface and an intelligent installation wizard.
— The Software Deployment Service enables you to easily deploy CA NetSpy in your mainframe environment.
— CA MSM Consolidated Software Inventory (CSI) updates and infrastructure improvements add flexibility to CA MSM processing of CSIs and enable CA MSM to more effectively utilize CPU and system memory.
Installation Verification Program (IVP) and Execution Verification Program (EVP): As part of qualification for inclusion in the set of mainframe products from CA Technologies released every May, CA NetSpy has passed stringent tests performed through the IVP and EVP to find and resolve interoperability problems prior to release. These programs are an extension of CA Technologies ongoing interoperability certification initiative launched in May 2009.
Health Checker: The Mainframe 2.0 Health Checker provides CA NetSpy Health Checks that execute under the IBM Health Checker for z/OS. Some of the kinds of Health Checks that CA NetSpy can issue include:
— A configuration problem: detecting inactive interfaces or non-operational SNMP traps
— Configuration recommendations where options have not been configured correctly
— Run-time situations, as when certain configurable thresholds are being reached, so that these options can be reviewed and changed before a limit is reached
Health Check exceptions can then prompt action to correct a problem before it can cause a system or region outage.
Key features
CA NetSpy Network Performance provides:
Real-time data displays which highlight such key performance statistics as VTAM
application, buffer pool and terminal, virtual route, buffer and tuning, APPN and MNPS, NCP and buffer pool
IPv6 RTM Support
Historical data for trending, problem analysis and capacity planning Reporting, through both the online report facility and batch reports
General, trace and graphical alert facilities that that employ user-specified thresholds An interface to most VTAM session-management products that correlates terminals with
accessed applications, resulting in accurate end-to-end response times A trace facility to track transactions and PIUs in your SNA network
Network accounting that enables you to collect complete statistics for your network, including session and gateway accounting

Benefits
CA NetSpy Network Performance monitors performance by collecting network data from VTAM, NCPs, session managers and other CA NetSpy installations. Typically, CA NetSpy can be installed and begin to monitor the network within hours. Once data is collected, it can be reviewed through real-time, interactive displays and historical reports. What’s more, the product helps solve problems by continuously measuring network response times and making recommend-ations that help prevent problems before they cause delays. In addition, it generates statistics for services, traffic and errors, which may be reviewed online or through the historical database.
CA NetSpy Network Performance enables you to more efficiently manage and optimize the performance of your SNA networks, as well as measure and maximize the overall performance of both the host and network.
