LIVE OAK CHARTER SCHOOL
100 Gnoss Concourse Petaluma, CA 94928•(707) 762-9020Agenda for the Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors
Live Oak Charter School Multi-purpose room
December 10, 2015
Mission & Program
To ensure the humanity and potential of its students through an education resonant with their unfolding awareness and capacities, and supportive of the full and integrated development of body, heart, and mind. LOCS provides a K-8 program inspired by Waldorf education to children and families of Petaluma and surrounding communities. Waldorf inspired education is a developmental approach to learning that cultivates the innate capacities of each child through age appropriate curriculum. Live Oak educates the whole child – head, heart, and hands, through an education that integrates each child’s creative, intellectual, emotional, physical and social domains. Live Oak offers an
interdisciplinary liberal arts program where art, music, and movement are integrated with core academic instruction. Exploration of the natural world, human culture, language and mathematics enlivens curiosity which is the foundation of intellectual growth, conceptual flexibility, empathy and sense of connectedness.

December 10, 2015Enrollment & Attendance
Enrollment is currently 293, with several enrollments pending for January (4).
Facilities
The woodworking storage unit has been installed. Progress on the handicap space is continuing. We expect to have architects final drafting by January for submission.
Special Projects
Kim and Muriel have been working a good deal with the AESOP system which has forced us to look at many payroll questions and practices to ensure we have accurate documentation of staff absences. In particular, our shift to more salaried position has been tricky for the system as many folks work schedules that are not consistent day to day. We are grateful for the work that office staff has put into the AESOP articulation. We are continuing our exploration of
integration with ESCAPE but there have been no further development on that front at this time.
Winter Faire is next Thursday, December 17th at 11:00am. Our craft faire opens early at 9:30. All of these events are open to the public. We have had more advertising this year for the craft faire, both through Copperfields and Petaluma Education Foundation. We’re looking forward to a great event for our families and community.
We have invested further in our reading program providing background resource materials to our elementary teaching staff that will articulate well with our scope and sequence and other resources including leveled reading library and assessment system. We anticipate the adoption of a common set of resource tools will strengthen our instruction and collaboration. Our review of math materials continues, though Eureka Math seems to be the likely candidate given its layout and cost.

Our review of math materials continues, though Eureka Math seems to be the likely candidate for grades 1-5 given its quality and cost.
Human Resources
We are losing our much beloved RSP Assistant, Hannah Miller who is departing Live Oak to complete additional student teaching in a different special education setting. Hannah will be dearly missed. She has offered incredible support to staff and students alike. We have begun the hiring process to fill this vacancy and expect to have it filled by mid January.
Finance
Finance update and the 1st Interim will be discussed later in the agenda.
Inter-Agency Relations
I attended the recent North Bay Alliance meeting. The Alliance conference is fast approaching and will be held on January 15, 16 and 17 at RSC. Also of note, Sebastopol Charter has
