“We WELCOME all, WORSHIP together at the Eucharistic table, and give WITNESS to Jesus Christ.”
A big thanks goes to all who made our annual Parish Picnic last weekend, such a tremendous success! We received a lot of positive feedback and a few ideas for the future. I want to especially thank: Ms.
Ann Conklin (Picnic Chairperson), Lisa Bittner, the Picnic Committee, and volunteers, which consisted of many of our Parish Council Members, the Knights of Columbus, the MOMs Group, our Nurses, our Hospitality Committee, Peace and Justice Committee, Women's Fellowship, Men's Fellowship, Filipino Ministry, Liturgical Ministry, Faith Formation, St. Vincent de Paul Ministry, Music Ministry, Parish Council, many of our Staff members and our Becket Youth Ministry. If I am forgetting anyone, I do apologize. We have many active groups here who engage in all sorts of ministry. I hope some of you found the time to check out some of our ministry groups who staffed information tables at last week's picnic and will consider joining them.
It is always such an awe-inspiring event for me to celebrate Mass outside under the sky in the midst of all God's creation. It was a wonderful celebration of the Eucharist. There is no better way to kick off our programming year and an afternoon of fellowship. Events, like the picnic, help us to grow as a community of faith by reminding us that we are not alone in our faith and that Jesus is always with us. We have each other to lean on as individuals and we have the community to help work together on projects to uplift our parish and the greater Canton community.
I really appreciate ALL of you who donated a few hours of your time to volunteer. We could never host such a large event without so many people willing to help out (about 100 individuals). Also, we were over- whelmed with all the donations of water and other needed items. It was inspiring to see so much participation.
THANKS!!!!
This Sunday, at the 10 AM Mass, our parish celebrates and honors all (see PASTOR on page 2)

SVDP Clothing Drive - Oct. 23-24
Our St. Vincent de Paul Fall Clothing Drive will be on the weekend of October 23rd and 24th after all the masses. We will be collecting in the South parking lot, and are specifically looking for warm fall/winter clothes.
It’s time to clean out your closets and donate your clean, gently used winter clothing that is in good condition. If you have not worn an item in 2 or 3 years, it’s a safe bet it won’t be missed by you, but for someone else it will have new life!
We request that your items are not ripped or stained, or have missing buttons or broken zippers. People who receive these items don’t usually have the means or ability to repair them.

Family Questions
Adults: What evidence do you see in the world around you that many do not accept Jesus’ teaching on power and ambition?
Children: Why is it wrong to feel envy for what belongs to another?
I pray you all remain healthy and safe. Have a blessed week!

What’s the difference between a good pizza joke and a bad one?
For the Adults: Thought of the Day!

All parishioners are cordially invited to attend our 2021 Annual Fundraising Banquet to be held on Thursday, September 23, 6-9 P at Burton Manor, Livonia, MI
Attendance may be in person or virtually. There is NO COST for the dinner, but there will be an opportuni- ty to make a donation. But you must register to attend. The Benham Brothers are the keynote speaker for the evening.
Twin brothers, David and Jason Benham, know what it means to have their faith under fire. They were contracted to do a show on HGTV which was cancelled because of their commitment to “biblical values”. They have been strong advocates for LIFE and have suffered consequences for their strong stance. An evening not to be missed. To register for this event, either virtually or in person, go to Friendsofaaaprc.com and click the blue REGISTER box in the upper right side of the page.

BE A BUDDY COAT DRIVE MERCY IN ACTION
Spread the word to neighbors, relatives, and co-workers! We want their gently used winter coats, jackets, gloves, mittens, and scarves too! Though the official dates for the coat drive are October 9th through the 17th. We will be doing contactless collecting with bins outside the Church south entrance and porch pick-ups. (For pick-ups call 586-291- 7928 or 704-652-8261).
A big “THANK YOU” to B2 Outlet Store at Ford and Canton Center Road, for once again placing a donation box in their entrance way and promoting our Coat Drive on their website. Any other businesses able to help out???
As in the past, we also like to give each charity some new items along with the used items. This is only possible with your generous donations of new items or direct cash donations for us to make those purchases. So experienced bargain shoppers we look forward to any deals that you can find in the stores or on-line!
If you are not a shopper but still would like to help out, put your donation in an envelope marked COAT DRIVE and put it in the collection box.
Still hoping for homemade scarves, hats and mittens too! Thank you for your enduring generosity!

Feeding the Homeless One Sandwich at a Time
One of the Lenten Service Projects our Parish did a few months ago was to serve at the Pope Francis Center (PFC). We found out that Tuesday is sandwich day at PFC and our neighbor, and soon to be family member, Resurrection Parish of Canton provides the sandwiches every week. We have recently learned that PFC has requested an additional 10 dozen sandwiches each week.
In an effort to continue to reach out to the poor, vulnerable and the homeless, St. Thomas a’Becket has agreed to initiate a Sandwich Ministry and provide the additional sandwiches needed every week. If 40 families/
individuals participate from our parish, each will only need to provide sandwiches once a month.
Volunteers will make the sandwiches in their own homes.
Please deliver the sandwiches to St.
Thomas a’Becket on the weekend during Mass times or by 1:00 PM on Sunday. We have been doing this ministry since April.
The simple process of making sandwiches once a month will make a difference to someone who is hungry and has no place to call home and puts your faith into action. They need more sandwiches each week. If you can help, please register at:
https://www.signupgenius.com/

thSunday in Ordinary Time Gathering Song:
All Are Welcome (Marty Haugen)1. Let us build a house where love can dwell And all can safely live,
A place where saints and children tell How hearts learn to forgive.
Built of hopes and dreams and visions, Rock of faith and vault of grace;
Here the love of Christ shall end divisions:
All are welcome, all are welcome, all are welcome in this place.
2. Let us build a house where prophets speak, And words are strong and true,
Where all God's children dare to seek To dream God's reign anew.
Here the cross shall stand as witness And as symbol of God's grace;
Here as one we claim the faith of Jesus:
All are welcome...
Penitential Act
Response: Lord/Christ, have mercy.
Glory to God:
Mass of Saint Ann (Ed Bolduc)Glory, glory to God in the highest, Glory, glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.
We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you,
we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.
Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.
For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father.
Glory, glory to God in the highest, Glory, glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. Amen.
First Reading:
Wisdom 2:12, 17-20Responsorial Psalm:
The Lord Upholds My Life (Arr. Aaron Thompson) RefrainThe Lord, my God, upholds my life and will hear and answer my call.
The Lord, my God, upholds my life and saves me. (Psalm 54) By your name save me, Lord. Protect me with strength of your hand.
Shelter my spirit and hearken my plea; answer the cry of my mouth.
Evil men seek my life. The angry desire my death.
They turn from the Father and seek not his way, turning their back on the Lord.
Know that God is my strength. I breathe because he is my Lord.
Behold, I bring sacrifice offered with praise. Holy and good is our God.
Second Reading:
James 3:16—4:3Gospel Acclamation:
Mass of Endless Mercy (Steve Angrisano)Gospel Verse:
God has called us through the Gospel to possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
(continued………) 3. Let us build a house where love is found
In water, wine and wheat:
A banquet hall on holy ground, Where peace and justice meet.
Here the love of God, through Jesus, Is revealed in time and space;
As we share in Christ the feast that frees us:
All are welcome...
Gospel Reading:
Mark 9:30-37Homily
Nicene Creed:
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Prayer of the Faithful
Response: Lord, hear our prayer.
For the Church: that we may be servants of one another, particularly of those in need, and thus bear witness to God’s love for everyone, we pray to the Lord:
For the poor and powerless in our society: that we may hear their voices, understand their pain, and humbly walk alongside them through life’s challenges, we pray to the Lord:
For the unemployed and those facing evictions: that God will guide them to beneficial resources, help them to maintain their housing and family life, and open opportunities for them to use their talents,
we pray to the Lord:
For all involved in Faith Formation, particularly catechists and their assistants: that they may be led by the Holy Spirit as they pass on the Catholic faith to their students, we pray to the Lord:
For all of us gathered here at St. Thomas a’Becket: that we may be aware of the motivations that stir our hearts and respond to those that lead us closer to God and toward greater wholeness, we pray to the Lord:
For healing and strength: that the Good News of the dying and rising of Jesus may bring hope to the sick and strength to those who care for them, especially……., we pray to the Lord:
For all who have died in faith: that they may be raised up to new life in Christ Jesus:
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
Preparation of the Gifts:
We Are Many Parts (Marty Haugen) RefrainWe are many parts, we are all one body, and the gifts we have we are given to share.
May the Spirit of love make us one indeed;
one, the love that we share, one, our hope in despair, one, the cross that we bear.
Holy, Holy:
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Hosanna, hosanna in the highest.
Memorial Acclamation
:We proclaim your death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection until you come again, until you come again.
(continued……) 1. God of all, we look to you,
we would be your servants true, let us be your love to all the world.
2. So my pain is pain for you, in your joy is my joy, too;
all is brought together in the Lord.
3. All you seekers, great and small, seek the greatest gift of all;
if you love, then you will know the Lord.
Doxology/Amen Lord’s Prayer
All: Our Father…
Sign of Peace Lamb of God:
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.
A Prayer for Those Unable to Receive Communion:
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love you above all things and I desire to receive you in my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally, Come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace you as if you were already there And unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.
Communion Antiphon:
John 10:14 (Angrisano/Hart/Stephan) I am the Good Shepherd, says the Lord;I know my sheep, and mine know me.

Communion Song:
Taste and See (James Moore) RefrainTaste and see, taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
O taste and see, taste and see the goodness of the Lord, of the Lord.
1. I will bless the Lord at all times. Praise shall always be on my lips;
my soul shall glory in the Lord for God has been so good to me.
2. Glorify the Lord with me. Together let us all praise God's name.
I called the Lord who answered me; from all my troubles I was set free.
3. Worship the Lord, all you people. You'll want for nothing if you ask.
Taste and see that the Lord is good; in God we need put all our trust.
Song of Sending:
Go Make a Difference (Steve Angrisano) RefrainGo make a diff'rence.
We can make a diff'rence.
Go make a diff'rence in the world.
Go make a diff'rence.
We can make a diff'rence.
Go make a diff'rence in the world.
1. We are the salt of the earth, called to let the people see the love of God in you and me.
We are the light of the world, not to be hidden but be seen.
Go make a diff'rence in the world.
2. We are the hands of Christ reaching out to those in need, the face of God for all to see.
We are the spirit of hope;
we are the voice of peace.
Go make a diff'rence in the world.
