Import references to DiVA

You can import references from many different databases and reference management programs into DiVA. The following reference formats can be used: PubMed XML, ISI, EndNote XML, Endnote Referer Format, MODS V3, BibTex, BibLatex and RIS.
From January 2013 Mälardalen University Library will import new publications from the Web of Science (ISI) and Scopus databases to DiVA on a weekly basis.
How to import
1. Search references in a database (e.g. PubMed, Web of Science-ISI, Scopus, Libris) or a reference management program (e.g. EndNote) and save them as a file on your computer.

2. Log into DiVA http://mdh.diva-portal.org/login with your University account ID and password and select Import references.
3. Click the button Import from external databases.
4. Select format, upload and import your saved file with references. You can also import a single reference from PubMed using its PubMedID (PMID).

The reference or references that you have imported are displayed under List imported details.
5. “Duplicate…” means that there already is a publication with the same DOI, ISI-id or PubMed-id in DiVA. Click on the reference if you want to edit or complete the registered details.
6. Click on each reference to add organisational affiliation, full first name for all Malardalen university authors, ORCID-ID and other details according to manual Registrera/Publicera i DiVA.
Continue to the step Review/Publish and click Submit to publish the reference in DiVA. References with full text or other attachments are checked by a librarian before they are published in DiVA.
References that you have imported to DiVA but not yet completed and submitted are shown under List imported details yje next time you log into DiVA.

B. Fill in the publication’s PubMed ID (PMID) and click Import.
You will find the PMID for your publication in PubMed:

Do a search in PubMed and mark the records in the list that you want to import. Select File and XML under Send to and save the file on your computer.
To import the file into DiVA select PubMed XML under Select format. Click Browse (Bläddra) in order to locate the file on your computer and upload it to DiVA. The file is called pubmed_result.txt unless you gave it another name. Then click Import.

C. Import a file with several references from Web of Science (ISI)
Do a search in Web of Science and mark the records in the list that you want to import. Go to Output Records (at the bottom of the page), select Full Record and click Save to save the file on your
computer.
To import the file into DiVA select ISI under Select format. Click Browse (Bläddra) in order to locate the right file on your computer and upload it to DiVA. The file is called savedrecs.txt unless you gave it another name. Then click Import.
D. Import a file with several references from EndNote
Open EndNote and mark all the references you want to import Select File > Export… or click the Export button.

To import the file into DiVA select EndNote XML under Select format. Click Browse
(Bläddra) in order to locate the right file on your computer. The file is called My EndNote Library.txt unless you gave it another name. Then click Import.
E. Importera referenser från Libris
Do a search in Libris and mark the records in the list that you want to import. Choose Cite (at the bottom of the web page).
Choose BibTex as format and save the file to your computer.

To import the file into DiVA select BibTex under Select format. Click Browse (Bläddra) in order to locate the downloaded file on your computer. Then click Import.
Please Note! Some data, such as page numbers, are not imported into the DiVA record, and book chapters are registered as articles in journals, this must be corrected by you.
F. Import a file with several references from Scopus
Do a search in Scopus and mark the records in the list that you want to import. Then click ”Export”.

Choose RIS format and ”Complete format”. Then click export to save a file of references to your computer.
To import the file into DiVA select BibTex under Select format. Click Browse (Bläddra) in order to locate the downloaded file on your computer. Then click Import.

G. Import a file with several references from DiVA systems used at other universities
Search the DiVA portal: http://diva-portal.org. Mark the records you want to import into the
Malardalen University DiVA system. Choose create reference and the SwePubMODS format. Then save the file to your computer.
Log into the Malardalen University DiVA system: http://mdh.diva-portal.org/login and choose MODS V3 as import format. Upload the file from your computer. The name of the file saved to your computer is: getreferences.xml.
H. Import references from other databaser
You can add references from many other databases and reference management programs into DiVA by importing them in one of the formats BibTex, BibLatex, RIS, Endnote Referer or MODS. Make sure that you select the correct reference format under Select format when you upload your file to DiVA.
