The post holder will be:

Main Purpose of the Post
A senior role within the Web Services Division of IT Services department, the post holder will lead on the design of the University’s web presence to ensure an excellent online visual identity and further enhancing the visibility, usability and accessibility of University web sites and services. The corporate website is an increasingly essential online service for the University community and stakeholders, with an average daily user base of 15,000 visitors.
The post holder will utilise their significant frontend development expertise to deliver a more innovative, interactive, customised and accessible experience for all website users. To achieve this, the post holder will manage the activities of the Web Services Design Team and have lead responsibility for the management, development and implementation support of all University-wide web design related projects; as well as providing continued support to faculty and departmental web editors.
Excellent demonstrable design skills are essential, along with the ability to lead and manage a project team. You will have significant working experience of developing complex dynamic web sites and managing these projects from conception to publication. To complement this experience, you will have strong project management and all-round communications skills along with a professional, pro-active and customer focused approach.

Main duties of the post:
1. Lead responsibility for the management, development, implementation and support of all University-wide web design projects.
2. To manage the activities of the Web Services Design Team with responsibility for communicating briefs and timescales; chairing meetings; providing resources, and giving one to one technical support.
3. To plan and scope web design projects as defined by the Head of Web Services - considering the processes of site-mapping; information architecture; design, development and integration; testing; publication, and maintenance.
4. To analyse the complex technical requirements for a web design project: ensuring the timely delivery of innovative and accomplished frontend websites, systems and services
5. To liaise with the Web Development Team; ensuring backend development is integrated strategically into project workflow.
6. To create an excellent online visual identity which communicates the values of Edge Hill University and strengthens the appeal, functionality, user-experience and accessibility of the University’s websites.
7. To act as key contact with Corporate Communications to further develop the Edge Hill online brand - your knowledge and pro-activity will be essential in increasing the impact of online recruitment and marketing campaigns.
8. To research and evaluate potential bespoke web design technologies, recognise emerging technologies, trends and forecasts, which will place Edge Hill University websites at the forefront of the higher education sector online.
9. To provide on-going support to faculty and departmental web-editors and owners, including the provision of technical training to groups, authoring user-manuals, style-guides and templates; to maintain service quality and cohesion.
10. To compile management reports, detailed design and technical documentation for internal use, so effective site maintenance can be undertaken independently by other team members.
11. To liaise and maintain networks with external agencies, and to represent and promote both IT Services and Edge Hill University in professional arenas.
12. To represent IT Services on relevant University committees and working groups. 13. Day to day support for the University user community, which may include requests
from the IT Service Desk or requirements arising from major web design projects. 14. Any other duties deemed appropriate by the Head of Web Services.

Salary Range: Grade 7 Points 27 – 30
£27,428 - £29,972
Hours of work: 36.25 hours per week
However, it is expected that the postholder will work flexibly according to the on-going demands of the job and responsibilities at this level.
