22138VIC Certificate II in Plumbing (Preapprenticeship)

A plumbing pre-apprenticeship will introduce you to the plumbing industry and make you more attractive to prospective employers. By completing a pre-apprenticeship you will gain:

- Industry knowledge - Workplace exposure - Hands-on experience

An application and interview based selection process is involved.

Full time for 13 weeks (with a break for Easter)

Asbestos removal Class A

Three day program designed to provide knowledge and practical skills for the safe removal of friable asbestos containing material. It covers Part 4.3 of the OHS Regulations and would meet the needs of removal personnel and supervisors to competently remove friable asbestos.

Note: This program does not result in a licence to remove asbestos or asbestos containing materials.

Backflow prevention

Commission and maintain backflow prevention devices

Three day program designed to train plumbers in the commissioning, testing and repairing of backflow prevention devices. Participants must hold water supply registration and/or licence.

Disconnect/reconnect fixed wire electrical systems

Seven day course recommended for plumbers who are required to carry out electrical work relating to low voltage fixed electrical appliances associated with their plumbing work. It covers the skills and knowledge required to safely isolate and disconnect electrical appliances then reconnect and test appliances. This course does not cover rectifying faults.

The units addressed in this course are;

UEENEEP012A (composite appliances/ air conditioners) UEENEEP014A (water heaters)

UEENEEP015A (motors) Participants may select two units.

Note: external course assessment occurs one week after course completion Course cost includes one attempt at external assessment.

Flashback Arrestor & Oxy-Acetylene Testing

The OH&S act places a responsibility on employers’ and employees’ to ensure that the workplace is safe for all. Oxy-Acetylene welding and cutting can cause severe injury and damage if not maintained in a safe working condition. This short course has been developed to familiarise participants with: - Testing of Flashback Arrestors using an approved testing device - Testing of Oxygen and Acetylene hoses, regulators and handpieces. At the completion of the course the participants will have covered the operation of a flashback arrestor tester and testing requirements of oxy-acetylene equipment.

Type B gas appliance servicing

This course covers the skills and knowledge to install, test, adjust, commission and service Type B gas appliances. Participants will learn to identify, diagnose and rectify system faults in Type B appliances.

It is desirable that participants hold gas registration and/or licence. Participants with appropriate industry experience in this field are advised to seek approval from the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) prior to enrolling.

Participants must hold a restricted electrical workers licence.

• An administration fee of $50 will apply to all Category A registrations if the participant fails to attend training, in line with the cancellation policy. The fee for Type A and Type B gas appliance and Disconnect/reconnect training courses is $200. • Course dates and locations are subject to change. • Eligibility for subsidised rates is at the discretion

of PICAC.

• Subsidised training is only available for courses booked through PICAC.
