Welcome:

hearts and minds of our students. You will

experience a dedicated staff willing to go the extra mile for the success of our students.

Teamwork and communication is vital to

ensuring this happens. Feel free to email or call teachers or our staff so we can serve you all to the best we can.

Welcome to our team!

~Mr. Dunn

Principal: Brandon Dunn 241-5606 Dean of Students: Carrie Meier 241-5667 Secretary: Merri Tate 241-5603 Office Aid: Brenda Deboodt 241-5602 Counselor: Amy Cary 241-5607

Hours:

Our office is open from 7:30am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday. The school day begins at 9:00am and finishes at 3:30pm.

Single Point of Entry:

We have a new single point of entry system which is located at the north end of the building in the same location as parent drop off/pick up. All doors will be locked. You will be greeted by one of our secretaries at the transaction window to help you.

Trent PBIS

The staff at Trent recognizes that our students work very hard to be good citizens and learners, and they deserve to be recognized for these efforts. The following programs are an important part of our positive behavior plan. In addition, various other awards and rewards are used by classroom teachers and staff throughout the year to encourage positive behavior.

Student of the Week Program – Each week, a student in each classroom is chosen who shows an effort toward personal growth. This may be in academic or behavioral areas. Their names will be announced on the school intercom on Fridays.

(4)

Knight PRIDE Leaders – Students earn this honor by meeting expectations by working hard, being a good citizen and doing the right thing.

Special Recognition Events - Students meeting expectations get to attend special events throughout the year.

Good Behavior Slips – Catching students being positive and caring members of our school community is an enjoyable part of our discipline plan. Students are rewarded with

“Trent Shield of Honor” slips, which can be turned in for prizes at the end of each week. Prizes are shown in the glass case in the front hall.

Parent Contacts – Expect to hear from our staff when your child is working hard, demonstrating amazing success,

or being an outstanding

citizen. We’re proud of our kids and what they do- we get excited about learning and kind, respectful behaviors.

PACE Traits – Monthly recognitions are held to honor one student per grade level who characterizes the qualities of the month. Qualities will be listed on the monthly calendar sent home and also in the halls at school. Photos of these

(5)

students will be displayed in the front entrance way.

Discipline Referrals

Trent practices Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS). We have expectations for each environment in our building that explain what positive behavior looks like and sounds like. Sometimes students do not demonstrate these expectations and if so, they may receive a minor discipline referral form. If the incident is a more serious issue, they may get a major referral. Minors are typically handled by the classroom teacher or supervisor. Majors are dealt with by Mr. Dunn or Ms. Meier. We like to keep you in the loop, so they do come home for a signature. For most major issues, you will receive a phone call.

Tardy:

The tardy bell rings at 9:00. If you are arriving after this bell, please walk your student to the transaction window to excuse them with their attestation form. If you cannot come into the building please call the office at 241-5603 to excuse your child.

Absences:

We ask that you please call the attendance line (241- 5602) to report any absences before-hand. This is so you

(6)

won’t receive a phone call later stating that your child is not in school.

Visitors:

Due to COVID 19, we will not be able to welcome volunteers into the building until health guidelines allow us to do so.

Parent Drop-Off and Bus:

We have two separate spaces for our buses and (parent drop-off). The loop on the south side of the school is for buses only. Please do not use this lot for picking up or dropping off your child. The lot north of the school is for our parent drop-off.

Morning-

When dropping your child off for school, please pull into the valet parking lot. Drive through the line and a

supervisor will meet your child at the car. Please DO NOT have your child exit the vehicle before reaching the

front. We want to avoid students walking through the parking lot without an adult. If you would like to park and walk your child to the building that is great.

Afternoon-

When picking up your child, please pull into the valet line. Once you get to the front of the line, a supervisor will escort your child to your vehicle and help load them. This process goes very smoothly when drivers watch for the car

(7)

in front of them to move and students get to the front of the school quickly. Please encourage your child to walk immediately to the pick-up area. Cars waiting for students may be asked to circle back around.

Parking Lot:

We love parents coming into the building, but we ask that when you park to either pick up your child or drop them off, that you stay with them in the parking lot. This is in the interest of safety for all our Trent students and

families. Please do not park in the bus loop.

Changes in Pick Up:

We understand that plans change and often this impacts how your child may be getting home at the end of the day. Please contact the office via email, written note, phone call, or in-person to inform them of any changes.

This helps ensure that all students get home safely. Students will not be allowed to go home a

different way without parent/guardian contact. You can email both Merri at [email protected] and Brenda at

[email protected] with this information.

Sign In-Out for Appointments:

Should your child need to be picked up early or come late due to an appointment, please make sure that you come to the transaction window at the office to sign him/her in or out. If someone other than a parent/guardian is picking up your child, please make sure you have notified the

(8)

office and the person picking them up presents photo-

ID. Students cannot be released without being signed out.

Lost and Found:

Please make sure to label all your student’s belongings (coats, sweatshirts, hats, lunch boxes, etc.) with their first and last name. Items without names are hard to return.

Additionally, have your child check the lost and found frequently for their missing items. The lost and found will be cleaned out after each conference week.

Personal Electronic Devices:

We strongly urge parents and guardians to not allow expensive personal items to be brought to school. We are not liable for items that are lost, stolen, or broken. Items could include: cell phones, handheld video games, or mp3 music players. If parents allow

students to bring these items to school they must be turned off or silent and in the student’s pocket during school

hours. We ask that such items not be left in backpacks or lockers, because they are too vulnerable to theft if they’re not on the student’s

person. Cell phones are NOT allowed during class time.

(9)

Dress Standard:

We follow EVSD’s dress standard. Students are not allowed to wear hats in the building unless it is a

designated hat day. Midriffs are covered and all shorts, skirts, and dresses are fingertip length or longer.

Appropriate footwear is required for safety and all clothing must have appropriate logos or prints.

Medication:

Per district policy, we cannot distribute any medicine to students without paperwork from your child’s

provider. Students are also not permitted to self- administer medication without paperwork from their provider. Once paperwork has been signed and filed with the office, we can receive medication along with directions for administration from a parent/adult. All medication must come in the bottle from the pharmacy with

prescription/dosing information on the bottle. Provider paperwork is available in the office. Further questions can be answered by our office staff

or school nurse.

Sickness:

We desperately want kids in school, but we’re also working to prevent the spread of illness to keep all our children healthy. Students with any of the following symptoms should remain at home:

Any rash

Fever

Vomiting or Diarrhea

(10)

Red or draining eyes

Live head lice

Cold symptoms accompanied by green or yellow nasal drainage or continuous coughing.

Temperature of 100.4 or over

PTA:

We have a phenomenal group of parents that work together to provide fun and enriching opportunities for our

students. If you are looking for a way to stay involved at Trent, the PTA is a great place to start! You can also check us out on our Trent PTA Facebook page. We encourage you to “like” this page in order to see current happenings at the school.

Stay Connected:

There are several ways you can stay connected with our school. Trent Elementary’ s website is located at

www.evsd.or under the “schools” tab. Our page contains our bell schedule, teacher’s emails, and many other additional pieces of information.

School Cancellation/2-hour Delay:

As part of the East Valley School District, we will close or delay school per district directive. It is important to make

sure that your information (phone number, email etc.) are up to date in our system that you receive the call/messages from our district about any cancellations or delays. EVSD

(11)

also posts information about school closure or delay on the website (www.evsd.org)

.

In the event of icy road conditions or other safety concerns, know that you have the right to make the decision on your child’s

attendance. Our goal is to keep all our kids safe. While we know a cancellation or 2 hour delay can be

inconvenient, it is for the safety of our students and staff. If buses are running late, the time given is an approximation. Please have patience as safety is the highest priority for all.
