PROJECTS IN QATAR

Here are some major projects in Qatar. Some projects have already started, other on the way. It is important to remind that date mentioned in the projects publication is not always respected.

PEOPLE MOVER SYSTEM IN QATAR EDUCATION CITY

HLG has been awarded responsibility for the design and construction of Qatar’s US$412 million People Mover System in Education City, which is one of the country’s first rail projects.

HLG’s scope of works, valued at US$124 million, incorporates the design and construction of track-work, tram-stops and a depot facility, which includes maintenance workshops and administration buildings. HLG is part of the Siemens Tram Consortium with Siemens WLL Doha and Siemens AG from Germany.

The People Mover System is located in Doha’s Education City. Being built for Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, and is intended to reduce the flow of traffic within Education City, by allowing students to park their cars in purpose-built multi-storey car parks and travel free of charge on a battery-powered tram system to their destination within Education City.

LUSAIL DEVELOPMENT FOR PRIMARY INFRASTRUCTURE

The Project comprises of Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning of major parts of Road A1, A6, D11 & A10 at Lusail with Junctions 12, 13, and 14, Wadi Underpass, Tunnels T1 & T2, Southern and Marina Interchanges including Underpass, Bridges, Arch, and Tunnel. The total length of the roads is 7.5 km. The scope of works include design and construction of a 4.6 km deep storm water tunnel of 2.4-3 m diameter with 15 shafts. Utilities, irrigation, electrical substations, road lighting, traffic signals, district cooling and gas distribution are also in the scope.

SOUQ WAQIF UNDERGROUND CAR PARK

Arabian MEP Contacting, secured subcontract award from the project main contractor UrbaCon to carry out full Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) works for 3 levels of underground car park at Souq Waqif – One of Doha’s most popular souqs.

The project overseeing full MEP work on 106,381.73 sqm underground car park and will have the capacity of 2,400 cars. The project is scheduled for completion in 18 Months from award date.

NDIA – EMIRI TERMINAL

The NDIA (New Doha International Airport) Project is a Joint Venture of CDC and Takenaka.

The components included in the works are as follows: - Emiri / V.V.I.P. Terminal Building

- Passenger Terminal Parking Facilities - Mosque and related facilities

The Emiri Terminal – Architecturally elaborated building of reinforced concrete and steel structure of approximately 8,000m² in two levels. It is divided into three main parts:

1. Emiri Terminal to accommodate ceremonial reception and departure of guest of state, private terminal for Emir, His family and selected ministers.

2. Ministers Lounge to serve as a terminal lounge for ministers.

3. V.V.I.P Lounge to accommodate V.V.I.Ps, both those travelling via private aircraft and those travelling by commercial airline flights.

Passenger Terminal Parking Facilities – These facilities include three-level structures to accommodate 50.000 square meters of public vehicle parking, a commercial parking structure with shaded parking on the ground level and two at Grade Parking Lots with a state of the art parking management system.

Mosque – is a three-level circular concrete structure with glass exterior at the upper two levels. The structure is approximately 47 meters in diameter and 13 meters in height above the plaza level. The ground level accommodates storage areas, elevator & mechanical room. The plaza level of the mosque accommodates assembly, circulation, office and storage areas, including the men’s prayer hall. The

upper mezzanine level accommodates assembly and circular areas, including the women’s prayer hall. The mosque also accommodates an Imam’s residence and Muesins residence.

Mosque Plaza and Minaret – paved plaza above the commercial parking structure complete with landscape lighting, planters, pools, walkways and bridges connecting to the Vertical Circulation Node which provides access to the Passenger Terminal Building and Minaret.

NEW DOHA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, QATAR

Bechtel is providing engineering, project management, and construction management services for the New Doha International Airport, now being built in Qatar. It will replace an existing facility, increase passenger and cargo-handling capacity, and accommodate the new Airbus A380 super jumbo jets.

When it opens, the new airport will accommodate 24 million passengers and 750,000 metric tons of cargo annually. It will feature two of the longest commercial runways in the world, an 85 meter high control tower, a 510,000-square-meter passenger terminal with 40 gates, a separate terminal for the Emir of Qatar, a general aviation terminal, a cargo terminal, a 150,000 square meter aircraft maintenance center, one of the world’s largest airport catering facilities, state-of-the art air traffic control equipment and security systems, and other facilities.

LUSAIL ICONIC SOLAR STADIUM – FIFA WORLD CUP STADIUMS

The project involves construction of a fully retractable cable net roofed stadium with a crowd capacity of 86, 250. The dhow sail styled stadium’s outer skin is a concave structure incorporating louver system for ease and pleasure of the fans and players. The stadium would be surrounded by a pool of water with its roof supported by arching columns. The solar powered stadium which can be accessed by 6 bridges, will have its own metro station and will be linked to highways and bus routes.

DOHA METRO

Doha metro is an 85-KM railway network in Qatar. The railway will include an east coast link, a high-speed link, a freight link and a light rail system. The railway will

serve suburb of Doha and developments such as Lusail, Education city and West Bay. Phase 1 of the Doha Metro, which includes a Red Line from the south of Doha through the city toward Lusail.

BARWA FINANCIAL DISTRICT

The Barwa Financial District is a giant project conceptualized to serve the global, regional and local financial sector. The Financial District will house facilities attracting regional and international banks seeking specialized infrastructure to benefit from. The Barwa Financial District will be located in the new business city of Doha, West Bay. The site for the Financial District has an approximate square area of 71, 600 plus sq. m and is situated along Majlis Al Taawon Street with secondary roads surrounding the perimeter allowing access to it from multiple sides.

LUSAIL DEVELOPMENT – LIGHT-RAIL-TRANSIT SYSTEM

The project calls for construction of Light-Rail-Transit System for Lusail Development. The light-rail-transit system will cover 22 kilometres and include with around 35 stations.

BARWA CITY DEVELOPMENT

Barwa City will cover a 2.7 million square meter land in Musameer, just outside the heart of Doha. The development offers its home owners and investors 128 apartment buildings, 6000 flats, and 1024 studio units. The city will also include schools, a hospital, mosques, parks, shopping complexes, health facilities and all other conceivable amenities. City capacity is 20,000 families. It will have its own district cooling system and total wireless internet coverage.

LUSAIL LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT SYSTEM – PHASE 1

Status: Execution

Pase 1 covers civil engineering works in seven underground stations, construction of a viaduct over the highway between Doha and the northern part of the country and preliminary work for the LRT depot and maintenance workshop.

The Lusail LRT project entails four lines covering a distance of 30km, with ten underground stations and 25 at grade stations, being developed in several phases. The entire project is executed in several engineering study and construction phases, where the next and final phase will include rolling stock and systems.

Integrated into 19 mixed-use districts, the project will transport 200,000 people and around 400,000 visitors a day in the new city of Lusail and is being developed on a 37km² waterfront site 15km north of Doha.

DOHA FESTIVAL CITY

The total area of Doha Festival City is 433,847m2 and located 15km north of downtown Doha on Al Shamal Road. The plot will include 260,000sqm gross leasable area of retail space offering over 500 retail units which will include a large number of new brands to Qatar. In addition, the project will boast the first Ikea store in Qatar, and will feature an entertainment and leisure complex, automotive showrooms, international hotels and convention centre.

UMM SALAL STADIUM

Umm Slal Stadium will have 45,120 seats. The design is a modern interpretation of traditional Arab forts. After the FIFA World Cup, seating capacity will be reduced to 25,500.

LUSAIL LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT SYSTEM

The network is composed of four main tram lines extending over 30.5 kms underground and over ground and 36 passenger stations.

In the southern part of the city, a 5.5 kilometre underground railway is under construction. Joining various residential districts across the city and serving the Marina, Energy City and Qatar Entertainment City.

The northern sector of Lusail City will have 24 stations at grade to serve the areas of Fox Hills district, the Northern Residential district, the Medical and Educational districts, the Golf district and to Lusail City’s plaza at the heart of the city.

In the near future, the rail network will connect to Doha’s metro network at a network interchange located on Khor highway.

BARAHA MOTOR CITY

Status: FEED (front end engineering design)

Motor City will be located next to Qatar Racing Club and will cover almost 2mn sqm. Baraha Motor City will create a self-contained integrated community to attract motorists seeking a broad range of automotive related services.

AL KHOR STADIUM

Al-Khor is a 45,330-capacity stadium with a seashell motif and a flexible roof. The permanent lower tier seats 25,500 and the modular upper tier seats 19,830. The stadium offers spectators a view of the Arabian Gulf from their seats and will be located in a sports and recreation zone.

FOUR STAR HOTEL PROJECT

The 4 Star Airport Hotel, is a 400 Room Hotel, is located near the existing Doha Airport. Approximate Gross Built-Up Area is 43,135 M2 and the development consists of Basement, Ground and First Floor plus two 6-Storey towers (B+G+7). Basement (7048 M2) is for Car Park & Plant Room

The Ground Floor to include Front Office, Foyer, Lobby Lounge, Retail, Shops, Restaurants, Administration,Loading Dock & Back of Houses.

The First Floor is to include Restaurant, Lounge, Meeting Rooms, Business Centre, Health Club and Swimming Pool.

Above First Floor there are 6 Floors dedicated to the Guest Rooms (400 Rooms).

MUSHEIREB DEVELOPMENT
