The success story of Memmert began in the year 1947, with the development of a hot air steriliser for the Red Cross. Today, Memmert heating ovens are indispensable in medical laboratories, opera-tion rooms and anaesthesiology departments in clinics.
They make a lasting impression with their aesthetics and user-friendly design coupled with unrivalled precision and reliability: corrosion-resistant, easy-to-clean stainless steel in the interior and outside, large-area all-round heating from four sides, device- specific interaction of heating and control. The UF universal oven (with extended over-temperature protection – option A6) and UFplus are suited to warm non-sterile blankets and cloths.
POSSIBLE APPLICATIONS
Warming of non-sterile cloths and blankets Keeping fango paraffi n and silicates warm for physical therapy
Heated storage of blood cultures and urine samples
UNIVERSAL OVEN U
The smaller the heating elements in an oven, the more they must be heated up to reach the required temperature in the interior. A standard ring heater with an overall heating element length of one metre will even start to glow, making a gentle and accurate adjustment con-siderably more diffi cult to achieve.
A Memmert heating oven with a volume of 749 litres is surrounded on all sides by 52 metres of heating elements. Six heating circuits are controlled separately from one another so that the required temperature is exactly attained and maintained at every point in the interior – linearly and without fl uctuations.
In a Memmert drying oven, the heating doesn’t simply switch off when the set temperature has been reached but the tem-perature is controlled permanently, gently and evenly throughout the entire chamber. The logical consequence of this unique system: Excellent values for temperature homogeneity and temperature stability.

Application U:
Warming of blankets in the emergency trauma room
Innumerable clinics and hospitals use Memmert heating ovens to preheat blankets and cloths used in operating and emergency rooms. In the district hospital of Roth, Germany, there are blankets that have been preheated to 42 °C in the heating oven in order to keep patients warm before and after their operation, which minimises the risk of complications such as wound infections, cardiovascular disorders and disruptions, vascular disorders and others.
Especially in emergency trauma rooms, temperature control systems are vital when caring for seriously injured patients. Grabbing a blanket from the heating oven still is the fastest solution to avoid hypothermia or to increase the patient‘s body temperature.

Strict hygienic conditions prevail in laboratories, medical and veterinarian practices, clinics and hospitals as well as in pharmacies. The setpoint-dependent programme resume function Setpoint-WAIT of the Memmert hot air steriliser guarantees precise sterilisation times and the complete elimi-nation of even the most resistant microorganisms. Thus, sterilisation time does not start before the desired setpoint temperature has been reached. The Memmert SFplus hot air steriliser is a medical device used to sterilise inorganic medical material with dry heated air at atmospheric pressure.

The Memmert waterbath is available in six model sizes and two performance classes. In addition to the Basic model for standard temperature control tasks, the Excellent version provides precise test procedures with maximum safety: The superior heating concept of Memmert ovens can also be found in the waterbaths.
The heating elements are located under deep-drawn, easy to clean ribs, where they are pro-tected from water and thus from corrosion and calcifi cation. If constant set point temperatures close to ambient temperature are needed in the waterbath, the CDP 115 Peltier cooling unit cools the medium in a precise and environmentally friendly manner to up to 10 °C with an accuracy of ±0.1 K.
Application W:
Extracting lanolin in a waterbath
Already in the 1st century A.D., the Greek physician Pedanios Dioskurides described a procedure
to obtain lanolin by boiling sheep‘s wool in his famous encyclopaedia „De materia medica“. The procedure had fallen into long oblivion, but by the end of the 19th century lanolin had a
comeback in pharmacology as a base for balms. Lanolin is absorbed well by the skin, has a moisturising effect and accelerates wound healing.
The pharmacy in the district hospital of Roth also manufactures balms based on lanolin following their own formula, e.g. as an emulsion for the nose that supports the healing process after a nose surgery. Lanolin is extracted at 100 °C in a Memmert waterbath that has been doing its job reliably for 30 years.

INCUBATOR I

+30 °C to +80 °C
Natural convection or
forced air circulation
The heating and temperature control in Incubator I were specifi cally designed for low temperatures from +30 °C to +80 °C. You can be certain that your chamber load will be heated most gently and without any temperature overshoots.
During the heating process, the temperature is increased within a very narrow control range and kept exactly at the set value. A pre-heating chamber heats up the supplied air, so that no temperature deviations can occur in operation. The chamber of the INplus and IFplus models can be sterilised, along with all installations, at +160 °C in a 4-hour programme. The IF incu bator (with extended overtemperature pro-tection – option A6) is used to warm non-sterile blankets and cloths. The INplus/IFplus incubator is suited for warming rinsing and infusion solutions.
Application I:
Warming of infusion solutions in the incubator
The famous English architect Sir Christopher Wren was a typical 17th century man. As a universal
genius, he was not only interested in the art of construction. He built a rain gauge and, as far as it is currently known, he was the fi rst one to experiment with infusions – that is with delivering liquids and drugs to patients directly through the veins. Since syringes had not been invented yet, he used the thigh bone of a nightingale to inject wine and beer into the veins of a dog in 1656. In the 18th century, the invention of sugar solution represented a further milestone. But it wasn‘t until the
19th and 20th century, when hygiene and microbiology were further developed, that infusion therapy
fi nally made a breakthrough.
The district clinic of Roth uses several Memmert products to keep rinsing solutions at a constant temperature of 37 °C in its operation rooms.
The INplus/IFplus Memmert incubators are classifi ed as class I medical devices according to guideline 93/42/EC and they are intended to be used as temperature control devices for rinsing and infusion solutions.

-5 °C to +60 °C (ICP 55)
If a large number of samples have to be perma-nently incubated, you can rely on the maximum utilisation of the chamber in the cooled incubator ICP. After all, of what use is a large chamber if some levels cannot be used after validation? And if rapid and precise alternation between heating up and cooling down phases in ramp operation is called for, Memmert cooled incu-bators with compressor cooling prove to be in top form. Thanks to the fi nely adjusted control technology, temperatures reach the set point precisely, without energy-intensive re-adjustment and without any tem perature fl uctuations. If you need particularly precise temperature con-trol in combination with low-noise and vibration-free operation, the Memmert Peltier-cooled incubator with its temperature range between +0 °C and +70 °C is just the right choice for you.

In conventional CO2 incubators and in special IVF incubators, vaporisation and condensation are a major problem. For this reason, Memmert has developed an IVF module for its INCOmed CO2 incubator.
The IVF module has 8 slide-in units and is used in a Memmert INCOmed CO2 incubator. This ensures that the CO2 content, O2 content and humidity in the interior can be controlled with absolute precision. Active humidifi cation and dehumidifi ca-tion in particular, keep vaporisaca-tion to a minimum in the Memmert INCOivf, meaning that additional cultivation under oil is not required. The low air exchange with the outside ensures fast recovery times for the CO2 content and humidity because as long as one slide-in unit is open, no other unit can be pulled out. And another invaluable advantage for users: The INCOmed CO2 incubator into which the IVF module is integrated, also is a class IIa certifi ed medical device for in vitro fertilisation.

Cell, tissue and bacteria cultures, as well as microorganisms, need to be protected in a con-trolled and physiologically ideal environment. The precision and reliability of the CO2 incubator play a decisive role, because even the smallest deviation in the CO2 atmosphere, in temperature or humidity content can have a negative infl uence on cells. For this reason, Memmert has subjected its INCOmed CO2 incubators to a comprehensive evaluation process for their recognition as class IIa medical devices for in-vitro fertilisation and biosynthesis.
To achieve an increase in usable volume, opti-mum hygiene and short recovery times after opening the door, the optional humidity module, which is an active humidifi cation system, can be integrated. Thanks to heating from all six sides, a constant atmosphere at any place inside the chamber is guaranteed. Temperature homo-geneity is supported by an aluminium thermal conduction jacket that also serves as a heat accumulator if there is a temporary power failure.

We know how:
When it comes to cell cultivation,
active humidifi cation and dehumidifi cation is a must
The COSIR research project, with scientifi c support from the chair of bioprocess engineering at the University of Erlangen, was dedicated to one of the most important challenges for cell cultivation in laboratories: evaluating cell growth without invasive methods such as sample taking. Memmert contributed to the success of the project by providing an INCOmed CO2 incubator.
At the beginning of the project, the incubator was evaluated and the result showed that the active humidifi cation system decreases evaporation considerably compared to incubators with passive humidifi cation. In cell cultivation in multiwell plates, evaporation and condensation cause fl uc tua-tions in the concentration, which may signifi cantly falsify test results. During the evaluation, the CO2 incubator was used by several employees and the door was frequently opened. The excellent responsiveness of the active humidifi cation system to the continuous change of the gas mixture in the chamber humidifi ed to 95 % rh, became apparent after the INCOmed was tested for 10 days. Caused by the frequent opening of the door, the outer well rows had lost about 40 % of their humidity content, while the inner rows had only lost about 10 %. On non-workdays, a constant volume and an increase in humidity content were determined.
