Wednesday, November 5, 6:30 p.m., South Offices Conference Room, 999 E. 14th Street

At its meeting on February 7, 2011, the City Council approved the formation of a permanent Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) to continuously guide the development and implementation of bicycle and pedestrian facilities. The BPAC’s systematic review process ensures that bicycle and pedestrian issues are addressed and options developed in a timely fashion for network expansion.

The BPAC is comprised of 11 members, with one member representing each of the Council Districts, plus 5 at-large members. The selected members represent both bicyclist and pedestrian concerns and were approved by Council. The BPAC meets on an as-needed basis once or twice per year.

Zero Net Energy Center’s Golden Spike Event (flyer attached)

Thurs., November 6, 5:30 p.m., Zero Net Energy Center, 14600 Catalina St. The Zero Net Energy Center will be hosting a “Golden Spike” event on November 6, celebrating both the first anniversary of the Zero Net Energy Center and the pending completion of the 7.5 mile expansion of the fiber optic loop, funded through a federal EDA grant and the City of San Leandro.

The Veterans Resources Center (VRC) is a new grant-funded space set aside for veterans to obtain information, resource manuals, find a good book or movie, and obtain applications for specialized license plates and CalVet materials and information.

Trained Library Benefits Coaches will be available to meet with veterans and family members, and to serve as expert listeners and initial problem solvers. The grand opening of the VRC is set for Sunday, November 9, in the Main Library’s Karp-Estudillo Room.

Thursday, November 12, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Zero Net Energy Center, 14600 Catalina St. “Prototyping the Future” will be hosted at the Zero Net Energy on November 12.

This is a one day exposition and conference focused on experimentation and near-future scenarios based on ultra-high speed broadband and three convergent technologies (Gigabit Fiber, Internet of Things, 3D printing). The event will explore applications for cities and industries with design, culture and entrepreneurship as catalysts for new experiences. Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon Registration Now Open

Wednesday, November 26, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Senior Community Center (13909 East 14th St.) and the Marina Community Center (15301 Wicks Blvd.)

Registration is now open for San Leandro’s 37th Annual Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon. This fun, celebratory community event will be held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. simultaneously at two locations: the Senior Community Center and the Marina community Center.

Reservations can be purchased in person at the Senior Community Center or the Marina Community Center, or online. Reservation fees are $7.00 for San Leandro residents and $9.00 for non-residents. For more information, please call Customer Service at 577-3462.

Public Records Requests Log (attached)

The attached Public Records Requests log lists the requests for records received by the City from July 1 through September 30, 2014.

A total of 58 requests this quarter were received by City staff and logged in by the City Clerk’s Office. Many of these requests require extensive research and review. While necessary, responding to these

requests requires substantial staff time and resources . Recruitment for the Police Chiefs Advisory Board

Recruitment for the Police Chief’s Advisory Board will be open from October 13 to November 15 to replace current vacant positions.

November 4th ballots may be dropped off at City Hall until Friday, October 1 at 5:00 p.m. The drop-off box is located in the City Manager’s Office, 835 E. 14th Street, 2nd Floor (Room 205).

This report is for information only, and no action is required.

A meeting of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) will be held on

Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the Helen Lawrence South Offices Conference

Room.

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION

At its meeting on February 7, 2011, the City Council approved the formation of a permanent

Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) to continuously guide the development and

implementation of bicycle and pedestrian facilities. The BPAC’s consistent and systematic

reviewing process ensures that bicycle and pedestrian issues are addressed and options developed

in a timely fashion for network expansion. The BPAC allows us to successfully meet

Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and the Alameda County Transportation

Commission (ACTC) requirements that the public be offered the opportunity to comment on

how Transportation Development Act funds from MTC and Measure B Bicycle and Pedestrian

funds from ACTC are allocated.

The BPAC is comprised of eleven (11) members, with one member representing each of the

Council Districts, plus five (5) at-large members. The selected members represent both bicyclist

and pedestrian concerns and were approved by Council. The BPAC meets on an as-needed basis

once or twice a year.

With two recent vacancies that will be filled soon, the following residents of San Leandro are

meeting will include: 1) status report on projects from the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan;

2) AC Transit related plans and projects; 3) General Plan and Complete Street Policy Update; 4)

identifying new improvement locations for bicycle and/or pedestrians in the city and; 5) Bicycle

and Pedestrian Master Plan Update.

Supporting veterans through their local libraries. Where:

The Veterans Resource Center (VRC) will be located in the Main Library next to the self-check book machines. What:

VRC is a space set aside for veterans to obtain information, resource manuals, find a good book or movie, and obtain applications for specialized license plates and CalVet materials and information.

Library Benefits Coach(s)

Trained Library Benefits Coaches will be available to meet with veterans and family members. Their main job is to meet with veterans and/or family members and serve as an expert listener and initial problem solver. The veterans, with the assistance of a coach, will complete a Veterans Reintegration Form, which will enter the individual into the CalVet database and helps to identify benefits and services.

When:

Grand opening of the VRC is Sunday, November 9 from 2-4pm in the Main Library Karp-Estudillo Room. This is also the finale for the Cal Reads – War Comes Home grant program.

It is against the law to throw batteries in the trash. On February 8, 2006, the State of California banned household batteries and other hazardous products (like fluorescent lights) from disposal.

Unused medicine flushed or put down the drain can end up in our waterways and pollutes the environment. You can make a world of difference by following prescriptions as directed, and then disposing of your unused portions properly.
