Engage Lead Serve Board "Top 4" Directors Application

The Engage Lead Serve Board strives to enhance the education of students by providing structured experiential and developmental opportunities that encourage community engagement, model good leadership, and allow active service. The Board promotes collaboration between Recognized Student Organizations, Committees, and other focus areas that encourage philanthropy, service, leadership development, and civic engagement.

The Engage Lead Serve Board is a student-led organization in the University of Louisville’s Office of Student Involvement. ELSB is led by a "Top 4" that includes the Executive Director, Operations Director, Promotions Director, and Programming Director. The entire board is composed of the "Top 4" directors and committee directors and associate directors (Animal Welfare, Green Initiatives, Global Initiatives, Programs for Elderly, Training & Leadership, Veteran Initiatives, and Youth Development & Children’s Programs), and the Alternative Service Break Board, Freshmen LEAD, and Task Force Freshmen programs.

Selection for Top 4 directors will be based on the following criteria: - Content of completed application

- Responses to the required essay questions (and portfolio items for Promotions Director only) - Perceived interest in the Boards mission, committees, and programs

- Interview

- Ability to complete the requirements for membership and duties of the position as outlined in the ELSB bylaws

All applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 6.0 credit hours at the University of Louisville and maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA. DEADLINE TO APPLY: FRIDAY, JANUARY 15, 2016 BY 11:45PM

"TOP 4" POSITION DESCRIPTIONS

The EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR is responsible for the oversight and management of the day-to-day operations of the Board and its office; provides guidance and direction to all ELSB programs; works with the Board's advisor(s) to create an organizational budget; sets policies and guidelines to progress the organization and its mission; assists with strategic planning; builds relationships with local agencies; collaborates and connects affiliated RSOs with services and volunteer opportunities; recruits new volunteers; makes frequent presentations on the ELSB programs; implements new programs, ideas and services opportunities for University of Louisville students, faculty, and staff; represents the ELSB to both University and local entities; represents ELSB at Senate meetings; chairs the regularly scheduled ELSB meetings, and all other duties as assigned.

The OPERATIONS DIRECTOR is responsible for overseeing the inner workings of the Board. This position works to keep all members of the Board informed on minutes, as well as, the logistical operations of the Board; keeps all meeting minutes, program proposals, event proposals, event evaluations, electronic forms, and Board documents up-to-date; and may also be asked to help the Executive Director with additional tasks as needed. The Operations Director will serve as chair to the Board in the absence of the Executive Director.

The PROMOTIONS DIRECTOR is responsible for overseeing public relations, graphics, and web design. This position works to direct promotional and tasks and must be knowledgeable of basic marketing and promotional techniques, be detailed-orientated, organized, and able to meet tight deadlines. A working knowledge of graphic design software (i.e. Adobe products, primarily Adobe Photoshop) is highly suggested.

The PROGRAMMING DIRECTOR is responsible for helping plan ELSB signature events, special service opportunities, and outreach collaborations. This person must be passionate about service and event planning, organized, task-oriented, and creative in developing projects. Previous

programming and event management is required. ELSB signature events help to educate and motivate students to join the ELSB Committees, so it would be helpful for this individual to have experience recruiting volunteers.

OFFICE HOURS

Regular office hours must be maintained by each director and a minimum of 10 hours must be logged per week in OrgSync. A portion of the scheduled hours can be weekly "Top 4" meetings and full board meetings. Additionally, each director is required to complete 15 service hours per semester.

COMPENSATION

The "Top 4" Directors receive $3,000 per semester (fall & spring) for a total of $6,000. Please be advised, Board Directors may be asked to participate in summer orientations, training sessions, meetings, and/or a retreat over the summer term, for which they will not receive additional compensation for participating.

Position Information

Engage Lead Serve Board "Top 4" Directors Term of Position

All newly selected Board members will serve alongside current directors for the remainder of the spring semester and take full direction of their position beginning May 1, 2015. New directors will work side-by-side with the current director to learn the procedures and protocols of the University and the Office of Student Involvement. Furthermore, they will work to develop programs and initiatives for the summer and fall, work to further network with individuals in the campus and local community that have vested interest in the area of concentration, and select committee directors, associate directors, and/or committee members. They should also discuss best practices for the development and growth of the program and set goals for the program. The term will last until the next Board members are installed (May 1, 2016).

Professional Demeanor

All those in a leadership role on the Engage Lead Serve Board are expected to maintain a professional demeanor. This consists of not working on personal errands during official office hours, meetings, or community interaction. Furthermore, coarse language, rowdy behavior, or conversations with inappropriate subjects will not be permitted. The Engage Lead Serve Board strives for an inclusive environment and does not tolerate discrimination against individuals based on gender, sex, ethnicity, race, sexual orientation, religion, age or any other superficial or non-performance based metrics. Additionally, hate speech will not be tolerated. Remember that you represent the Engage Lead Serve Board on your own personal time.

Application Process

Candidates are allowed to apply for any combination of "Top 4" Director positions. Candidates should fill-out the online form and submit all pertinent documents to complete the application process.

Interview Process

Completion of the application process does not guarantee an interview. Candidates to be interviewed will be contacted to schedule an interview. It is the candidate’s responsibility to make himself/herself available for an interview and to respond in a timely fashion to arrange an interview.

Board of Directors Duties

All Directors must be mindful of the mission of the Office of Student Involvement. They must understand and agree to represent the organization at all times. Should they fail to act accordingly, they can be removed from their position for questionable actions. Directors are expected to attend all board meetings (currently held on Fridays at 3pm) with an open mind. They must log a minimum of 10 office hours per week in OrgSync. They must meet at

least once per month with an ELSB advisor and complete 15 service hours per semester. They should never be afraid to ask questions and think outside of the box, but this also means they must be willing to help others involved with ELSB. Directors of the Board are responsible for managing their own programs, projects, and committees respectfully and with the same mindset.
