!ince Proteus 8 installs directories re4uiring write access in a different directory structure there may be some wor$ re4uired in moving e+isting libraries and data from your e+isting Proteus .++ installation. %n general this can be fully automated but the process may vary depending on your Proteus configuration.
De-a"lt !0 Installation
This is the normal situation in which your Proteus was installed with a single library directory and you have not since changed, moved or added library paths.
&fter installation of Proteus 8 the 0egacy %mporter utility will launch and offer to copy your user libraries, styles and templates to the new Proteus 8 locations.
Io user action is normally re4uired for this type of installation.
%f you did not ma$e use of the 0egacy %mporter utility during installation you can launch it separately from the B%I directory of your Proteus 8 installation (0egacy!ettings%mporter.e+e).
+"stom !0 Installation
%n this case you have more than one library directory specified for your Proteus .++ installation.
!ince we donLt $now why libraries have been separated or moved you may need to wor$ manually by copying files between your Proteus .++ directories and your Proteus 8.++ directories.
The legacy importer utility will launch after installation and point to a library path. epending on how you have set up your system this may or may not be your primary 0ibrary path. %f it is, then run the tool as normal E if it isnLt then browse to your primary 0ibrary path and then run the tool.
Arganising your secondary 0ibrary paths is up to you. Typically however the secondary library path from Proteus .++ can simply be added as a secondary path in Proteus 8 via the !et Paths command on the !ystem enu.
Do not change the primary Proteus 8 library path to the old Proteus library path. This will cause problems
throughout the software.
%f all else fails, you may need to get a couple of copies of 5indows e+plorer open and copy files manually between your Proteus 0ibrary directory and your Proteus 8 0ibrary directory.

Template Directory
Template 1iles in the Proteus template directory can be copied into the Proteus 8 template directory.
Datas#eets Directory
atasheets from the Proteus directory can be copied into the Proteus 8 datasheets directory.
Bill of aterials configurations can be migrated from within the software by opening the Bill of aterials application module. -ou can reElaunch the tool at any time from the %mport Templates command on the Template enu inside the BA odule.

This dialogue form contains options for configuring various system global settings. 1or most users the default settings will be sufficient and global changes should always be made with caution.
Installation and Filin, Initial Folder -or .ro1ects
This determines what folder the standard 1ileEApen dialogue should default to. %t is often frustrating when
5indows decides that you want to open a file in the ocuments directory when actually you want to reEopen the file you last closed in a completely different place. -ou can ma$e this change to override the default 5indows behaviour and ensure that your Proteus open dialogues consistently start in a place of your choice.
Library Locale
!ome schematic library parts have different symbols in different placesN the most obvious being the resistor which loo$s li$e a bo+ in "urope and a sawtooth symbol (%""") in &merica. This option allows you to specify which type of symbol you prefer.
-ou will need to restart Proteus after ma$ing a change here to reload the correct library set.
System .at#s
1or almost all users the standard paths will be sufficient. /owever, if you do wish to move folders post installation please refer to the lin$ed topics below before ma$ing changes. %n particular, note that incorrectly changing paths can stop the system loading correctly and cause other serious problems.
Be aware that moving a read7write directory to a location where it cannot be written by all users will cause serious problems. An a networ$ drive, remember that group policies may be in place which will ta$e
precedence over local admin settings E you should not attempt this unless you are confident that you understand the implications.

This is simply the number of undo levels saved and can range up to a ma+imum of =;;. The higher the number of undo operations saved the bigger the memory footprint of the Proteus process and the default value should suit most users.

This is a 4uic$ save which ta$es place in your 5indows T"P directory at a fre4uency determined by the setting on the !ystem !ettings dialogue. Proteus will attempt to recover from this file after an une+pected crash. Iote that this is an emergency recovery system and not a bac$Eup file

Proteus includes the ability to send crash dumps to our servers after a program crash. This can help both alert us to a problem and help us pinpoint where the problem lies. %t is however entirely voluntary and you can control behaviour from the crash reporting tab of this dialogue.
& note on privacy. The crash dump format we use is the standard icrosoft memory dump and the data refers solely to the Proteus process. %t is however possible that a folder name is included in the crash dump (folder where the Proteus pro*ect is located) and it is therefore possible that a users name is submitted. 0abcenter treat crash dumps on an aggregate basis and any analysis of a dump ta$es place using icrosoft isual !tudio. &s best we are aware therefore, there is no identifying information or privacy ris$ from submitting crash dumps to
