The First Lesson Jeremiah 24:1 – 7 The Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

The people sit.

Psalm 1 (Please pray responsively by whole verse)

1. Blessed is the man who has not walked in the counsel of the ungodly nor stood in the way of sinners, and has not sat in the seat of the scornful;

2. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law will he meditate day and night.

3. And he shall be like a tree planted by the waterside, that will bring forth his fruit in due season.

4. His leaf also shall not wither; and look, whatever he does, it shall prosper.

5. As for the ungodly, it is not so with them; but they are like the chaff, which the wind scatters away from the face of the earth.

6. Therefore, the ungodly shall not be able to stand in the judgment, neither the sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

7. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

The Lesson Romans 8:12 – 17

The Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

The Sermon Rev. Mark Hottel No Condemnation – “Heirs of Christ”

The people stand.

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit, he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son, he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Prayers of the People

In peace we pray to you, Lord God. For all people in their daily life and work;

For our families, friends, and neighbors, and for those who are alone.

For this community, the nation, and the world;

For all who work for justice, freedom, and peace.

For the just and proper use of your creation;

For the victims of hunger, fear, injustice, and oppression.

For all who are in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble;

For those who minister to the sick, the friendless, and the needy.

For the peace and unity of the Christian Church worldwide;

For all who proclaim the Gospel, and all who seek the truth.

For Foley, our Archbishop, Mark, our Bishop; and for all bishops and other ministers;

For all who serve God in his church.

For the special needs and concerns of this congregation.

(8)

Hear us Lord.

For your mercy is great.

We thank you, Lord, for all the blessings of this life.

The people may add their own thanksgivings at this time.

We will exalt you, O God our King;

And praise your name forever and ever.

We remember those who have died in Christ. Lord, let your loving-kindness be upon them;

Who put their trust in you.

The Confession and Absolution

We pray to you also for the forgiveness of our sins.

Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; in your compassion forgive us our sins,

known and unknown, things done and left undone; and so, uphold us by your spirit that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and with true faith turn to him, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and

bring you to everlasting life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hear the word of God to all who truly turn to him:

The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the

world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. 1 Timothy 1:15 ESV

The Peace

The peace of the Lord be always with you.

And with your spirit.

Then the Ministers and People may greet one another in the name of the Lord.

Question for Week 30 The New City Catechism What is faith in Jesus Christ?

Faith in Jesus Christ is acknowledging the truth of everything that God has revealed in his word, trusting in him, and also receiving and resting on him alone for salvation as he is offered to us in the gospel.

(Galatians 2:20)

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the son of God, who loved me and gave

himself for me. Offertory

Doxology Hymn 380, v. 3

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below;

Praise him above, ye heavenly host:

Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

THE HOLY COMMUNION The Lord be with you.

And with your spirit.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give him thanks and praise.

It is right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father

Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who on the first day of the week overcame death and the grave, and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life.

Therefore, with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we proclaim your great and glorious name, for ever praising you and saying:

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Holy and gracious Father; In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.

(11)

On the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this is my Body which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me.”

Likewise, after supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me.”

Therefore, let us proclaim the mystery of faith.

Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, and we offer you these gifts.

Sanctify them by your Word and Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Sanctify us also, that we may worthily receive this holy sacrament, and be made one body with him, so that he may dwell in us and we in him. In the fullness of time, put all things in subjection under your Christ, and bring us with all your saints into the fullness of your heavenly kingdom, where we shall see our Lord face to face.

All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity

of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and forever. Amen.

And now as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Alleluia, Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us..

Therefore, let us keep the feast! Alleluia!

Sermon Text: Romans 8:12 – 17

12So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13For

if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of

the body, you will live. 14For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15For you

did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of

adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16The Spirit himself bears witness with

our spirit that we are children of God, 17and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow

heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
