2020-21 Phase Three: Executive Summary for Schools

North Pointe Elementary is the northern most school in Boone County. North Pointe opened in 2000 and was designed to house 700 students. North Pointe is part of a vibrant, growing community. As the community grew over the years, North Pointe enrollment began to grow eventually holding approximately 1200 students. The 2012-11 school year brought drastic changes to our enrollment with the

opening of a new elementary school nearby. Our enrollment is less than half of what it once was at approximately 500 students. The school has experienced few changes over the past three years other than a slight increase of economically disadvantaged students. However, new housing developments have begun to open up in the surrounding area, and we anticipate increased enrollment in the coming years. The academic success of the school can be attributed to students driven by a strong work ethic supported by their parents and community. A knowledgeable, caring and dedicated staff challenges each child to reach his/her fullest social- emotional and academic potential. North Pointe has performed among the top schools in the school district for many years and has been recognized by the Boone County School District. The North Pointe Elementary learning community believes in a nurturing environment where children can learn and grow through authentic 21st century experiences to be career, college and life ready.

North Pointe Elementary’s mission statement is “One School, one goal: Success for all!” At North Pointe Elementary, we envision that all staff: • Challenge and

encourage students to reach their full potential • Student needs are first and foremost over personal beliefs • All students have access to an equitable, rigorous and relevant education • All students are capable of high student achievement • Maintain a positive climate In order to achieve the shared mission vision of our school, North Pointe Elementary staff have made the following collective

commitments: • Collective accountability (common assessments, grading) • Monitor student progress and analyze to make data driven decisions • High expectations for all students • Be flexible and open • Share and utilize a variety of instructional

environment where all children learn and grow to be college, career and life ready through authentic 21st Century experiences. The Core Values at North Pointe Elementary are that we believe all students can learn at high levels when: 1. We make all decisions based upon what is right for students. 2. Every child is challenged to reach his or her fullest potential. 3. We guide students to take ownership of their learning. 4. We will engage the community in collaboration. North Pointe embodies these beliefs and purposes through our expectations and programs. Teachers and parents have worked to establish clear academic and behavioral expectations. Students at all grade levels are instructed by highly qualified and experienced staff. Instruction is differentiated to meet the needs of individual students. Teachers regularly accelerate or remediate teaching and learning based upon individual student needs. A balanced education is achieved by providing learning experiences based upon core academic subjects (Reading, Math, Writing, Science, Social Studies), Visual Arts, Music, Practical Living/ Career Studies, STEAM education, Physical

Education/Movement, and Spanish. Interactive technology is accessible in all

classrooms and is utilized by teachers and students. Students have access to 1 to 1 technology in grades 1-5. Clear academic expectations are communicated regularly through learning targets. Learning is assessed frequently using both formative and summative assessment with feedback communicated to students and parents. Through our PBIS work, we have also established clear behavioral expectations. Expectations are posted and taught in all classrooms and common areas. Our guidance counselor works with classes to present lessons on acceptance, support, and encouragement for all through classroom guidance lessons. Student and staff successes are recognized and celebrated at Recognition Assemblies and our

Panther of the Month awards program.

During the 2018-19 school year, North Pointe was designated as a 4-star school. We also attained a high ranking in proficiency, separate academic indication, and

growth. On our most recent Resiliency Poll, 91% of 3-5 grade students reported on having optimal school experiences, which shows that students enjoy coming to school and have high positive school experiences. What We Are Doing To Improve: Our staff/SBDM Council engage in data analysis to identify strengths and growth areas. Our school improvement plan is created based upon this data analysis and drives our teaching and learning. Using data from the KPREP assessment, we have developed a comprehensive RTI process to improve the performance of GAP group students. Teachers have aligned curriculum and timelines to the Kentucky Academic Standards and work regularly in Professional Learning Communities to create units
