RESEARCH

PROGRAM

My research program focuses on the social determinants of health and the impact of social policies on health and health inequalities. In particular, my research examines the large and growing inequalities in health across income and geographic areas within the United States (U.S.). I am interested in the role of social policies in protecting—or worsening—the health of low-income populations in the U.S., with a focus on examining whether U.S. state policies contribute to widening health inequalities.

DISSERTATION AND RESEARCH PROGRAM

I study migrant populations and social policies concerning migrants to inform structural changes that enhance social and human capital development and reduce health disparities in the context of a global society. I use applied microeconometrics, multilevel modeling, and structural equation modeling for my analyses. I teach classes and organize workshops on immigration, social policy, program development, entrepreneurship, and social documentary filmmaking to further transform and disseminate research findings.
