Cherryville High: School Improvement Team Membership

From GS 115C-105.27: “The principal at each school, representatives of the assistant principals, instructional personnel, instructional support personnel, and teacher assistants assigned to the school building, and parents of children enrolled in the school shall constitute a school improvement team to develop a school improvement plan to improve student performance. Representatives of the assistant principals, instructional personnel, instructional support personnel, and teacher assistants shall be elected by their respective groups by secret ballot… Parents serving on school improvement teams shall reflect the racial and socioeconomic composition of the students enrolled in that school and shall not be members of the building-level staff. “

Vision: Cherryville High School seeks to create a safe environment of order and respect where students are prepared to excel in the 21st century and where each student has the opportunity to become a responsible and effective member of the local, state, and world communities.

Strategic Plan Goal focus area: 1.1 Graduation Rate 1.1, 1.2

Current Status: During the 2013-14 school year, CHS had 34 students drop out of high school. School Interim Goal 2014-2015: Reduce the number of students to 24.

By the end of the first six weeks or as students fall behind, CHS will develop a graduation plan for students who are behind in credits.

Counselors, Principal, Assistant Principal New students enrolled, Credits earned vs credits attempted report from Powerschool, We will also track the number of graduation plans created and their success rate.

SSMT weekly, when new students enroll

We will meet weekly with students at-risk of failure. Students will use online classes and Apex Credit Recovery Software. Students will be identified by tracking attendance, behavior, grades, and Apex progress.

SSMT- CHS Cares, Student Success Coordinator,

NCVPS Coordinator # of at-risk students and their improvement, At-riskreport, We will also create SSMT logs traking students progress.

We will meet daily with Credit Recovery Students in order to monitor academic success.

We are going to start a student mentoring program using teachers in our building. We will target students in 9th and 12th grade for year one.

1. Describe your plan to provide duty-free lunch to all teachers -All CHS are given a 30 minute duty free lunch period regardless of thier subject area.

2. Describe your plan to provide planning time for each regular classroom teacher each week, with the goal of 5 hours per week. - All teachers have a 90 minute planning block daily. Meetings during planning periods are limited to once a week.

3. Physical activity is not denied to any students as a means of discipline, nor physical activity used as a form of punishment (K-8 only)
