Greater Lowell Technical High School Adult Post-Secondary and Health Career Programs commit to provide students with a dynamic academic and technical education to prepare them with the

Grading Policies
At the completion of the Adult Continuing Education Course or Health Career Program, students will receive a certificate of completion at their last class.
Whenever the Greater Lowell Technical High School has been cancelled due to inclement weather, Evening School Classes will be cancelled. Please listen to the television, WBZ Channel 4, WCVB Channel 5, and WNEV-TV, Channel 7 and radio stations WHDH, WCAP, WHOB and WXLO.
Inclement Weather
Student parking is allowed only in the second and third parking lots. The first parking lot is reserved for School Administration, Staff, Teachers and Handicapped Persons. Do not block fire lanes or park adjacent to the building. Illegally parked vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE
• Registration is open to all regardless of where they reside. Greater Lowell Technical School is an equal educational opportunity facility and is in compliance with Title IX, Chapter 622, Section 504.
• Payment must be submitted with your registration by AUGUST 30, 2013. Once registered and tuition is paid, either by mail, fax or in person, you are officially enrolled in that class unless otherwise notified. You will not receive enrollment confirmation.
• A 10% LATE fee is charged if tuition is not received by SEPTEMBER 6, 2013. Full payment is required before admittance to class. NO EXCEPTIONS. We check the enrollments in a class two business days before its start date. The Director of Adult Post-Secondary Programs reserves the right to cancel classes with insufficient enrollment and to make changes in instructors or class schedules due to unforeseen circumstances.
• All applicants for continuing education courses and health career programs must be at least 18 years old, unless approved by the Director of Adult Post-Secondary Programs.
• The $15.00 registration fee is non-refundable unless the course is cancelled by the Director.
• Tuition includes all course handouts, except electrical and plumbing code books, unless noted differently in the course description.
• There is a senior citizens discount of 50% of the tuition costs for students sixty (60) years old or older pending sufficient class enrollment
. Age verification is required on the day of registration. There is no district residency requirement. This discount does not apply to
the registration fee or any materials fees.
• All Full Time GLTS employees or School Committee Members may take one course per school year tuition free, providing that there is a sufficient number of students enrolled in that course. This free tuition fee offer does not include the cost of textbooks or additional course related materials.

Basic Welding I - 10 weeks $365.00 Instructor: Tom Kasilowski
This course will develop skills in shielded metal arc welding, oxyacetylene welding and cutting. Gas metal arc welding M.I.G. and gas tungsten arc welding will be introduced if possible. Safety and setup procedures will be stressed. This course is a prerequisite for the Basic Welding II class.

This course is developed to refine the skills of the basic welder. Included in this course are S.M.A.W. and G.T.A.W. theory, practical knowledge, reading blueprints for the welder and welding symbols.

Blueprint Reading I for Machinists - 9 Weeks $200.00 Instructor: Brian Cornellier
Blueprint Reading is a basic cornerstone in the machining industry. It is similar to the alphabet
needed in order to spell. This course covers the basics of blueprint reading for the aspiring machinist. Students will be taught basic print reading along with an introduction to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. At the completion of this course, one will be able to read and interpret a basic print, call-outs, and terminology. Class lectures and discussion along with hands-on application will give the student a better understanding of each unit and its use in industry.

Course consists of instruction on set up and operation of lathes, vertical millers, surface grinders, and use of measuring tools (i.e., micrometers, vernier calipers, rules, etc.). Students will also be given an overview of CAD-CAM and the principles behind writing a NC program. Safety glasses are required.
This course is a prerequisite for the Introduction to CNC Machining class that is offered during the Spring Semester.

This course provides an introduction to working with images and working with color, layers, and photographs. A basic overview of the digital process is presented along with discussion of how digital images are generated and used for production purposes. Students will learn how to use the selection tools and basic image manipulation techniques from the tools palette. Instructor: Elizabeth Lahens 1 evening seminar
Extreme couponing isn't as crazy as it may sound. You just need the right strategies to use coupons in conjunction with store sales and promotions, and then enjoy the satisfaction of getting items for free or close to free. This course will break down the couponing process into manageable and easy to follow steps to get you on your way to saving at least 50% off your grocery bill. Topics include: what extreme couponing is and how it differs from regular couponing, how to get started, saving money on groceries and household items, "extreme couponing" strategies, and where to look for online
coupons. As a suggestion, please bring one non-perishable food item to be donated to the local food pantry. Most food pantries are struggling and donations are down more now than in recent years. Enjoy the satisfaction of fooling fish with flies that you tied yourself! Fill your fly boxes at a fraction of the cost it would be to purchase your favorite patterns. Class will cover the tools, books, materials and techniques for creating a variety of fresh and salt water patterns. This course is intended for individuals employed in the health care industry who wish to upgrade their skills
This course introduces the student to the various aspects of medical billing encountered in medical facilities including medicolegal issues, claims development, ICD10, CPT coding, claims submission and resolution. This course will also cover the various aspects of Medical Insurance Coding including ICD10, CPT, HCPCS, and ADA codes. Manual Format, AMA and HCFA compliance issues will be discussed as well as necessary steps to avoid fraud and abuse in billing. It is important that all
applicants realize that there is no externship component to this course. A grade of 70 or above must be obtained to pass the course and be awarded a certificate of completion. Upon completing and passing this class you will be eligible to take the certification exam. The instructor will distribute the paperwork but is not responsible for making arrangements for the exam.

This course is a study of the language of medicine. Initial concentration will be on pharmacology and diagnostic terminology. This will be followed by a study of all vital body systems, medical terms, diagnoses, treatments, and the diagnostic and surgical procedures associated with each system. Correct spelling, pronunciation, and abbreviations will be stressed throughout the course.

The Phlebotomy clinical course is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to successfully collect, process and transport blood specimens. Students will be trained in the
venipuncture, butterfly, and specimen collection. Initially students will begin drawing from the training arm and as proficiency warrants, will draw blood from each other. Lectures and labs will also be presented on the materials required for these practices. Related safety issues, including OSHA standards and infection control will also be covered. This course is intended for individuals
employed in the health care industry who wish to upgrade their skills and does not include an externship. Completion of this course does not fulfill the requirements for certification.

Privacy Act
The Family Education Rights and Privacy (FERPA) Act of 1974 is implemented at Greater Lowell Technical School. This Act protects the rights of students in matters of access to and release of information contained in their student records. Questions regarding this policy should be directed to the Director.
Financial Aid
Financial aid is not available for the Nurse Assistant Program since it does not meet the minimum amount of hours required for a short-term program, per federal regulations.
Refund Policy

• Payment must be submitted with your registration by AUGUST 30, 2013. Once registered and tuition is paid, either by mail, fax or in person, you are officially enrolled in that class unless otherwise notified. You will not receive enrollment confirmation.
• A 10% LATE fee is charged if tuition is not received by SEPTEMBER 6, 2013. Full payment is required before admittance to class. NO EXCEPTIONS. We check the enrollments in a class two business days before its start date. The Director of Adult Post-Secondary Programs reserves the right to cancel classes with insufficient enrollment and to make changes in instructors or class schedules due to unforeseen circumstances.
• All applicants for continuing education courses and health career programs must be at least 18 years old, unless approved by the Director of Adult Post-Secondary Programs.
• The $15.00 registration fee is non-refundable unless the course is cancelled by the Director.
• Tuition includes all course handouts, except electrical and plumbing code books, unless noted differently in the course description.
• There is a senior citizens discount of 50% of the tuition costs for students sixty (60) years old or older pending sufficient class enrollment. Age verification is required on the day of registration. There is no district residency requirement. This discount does not apply to
the registration fee or any materials fees.
• All Full Time GLTS employees or School Committee Members may take one course per school year tuition free, providing that there is a sufficient number of students enrolled in that course. This free tuition fee offer does not include the cost of textbooks or additional course related materials.

Academic Advising Services
Greater Lowell Technical School provides academic advising services to students to assist them with pursing their educational program. Students desiring to enroll in the Nurse Assistant Training Program offered by Greater Lowell Technical School should contact the admissions office to discuss the academic requirements for admission and program
completion.
Transfer Policy
Transferring between programs within the institution and the transfer of students from other institutions is not allowed, due to the specific curriculum and hour requirements.
Transfer of Credits
Transferring credits from other institutions is not allowed.
Appeal/ Grievance Policy
It is the belief of the Adult Post-Secondary Programs that every effort should be made by the parties involved to settle any disputes or misunderstandings among themselves.
The student has the right to appeal decisions of the faculty. Appeal may be in response to a misinterpretation, inequitable application or violation of promotional consideration within the program. The time limits specified on this policy shall mean school days.
Step One
A student who chooses to initiate the appeal process must present, in writing, a request for consideration by the faculty, to the Director of Adult Post-Secondary Programs within three (3) days of said decision. The Director and the faculty will determine within three (3) days after receipt of a written appeal when a hearing is to be scheduled. The Director of Adult Post-Secondary Programs will notify the student as to the time and place of the hearing. Following the hearing, the student will be notified in writing within three (3) days of the faculty decision. If the decision is reversed, all privileges will be reinstated. The responsibility for making up all lost time will be the responsibility of the student.
Step Two
If the appeal is not settled, the student may submit a written request within (2) days to meet with the Assistant Superintendent-Director. If the decision is reversed, all privileges will be reinstated. The responsibility for making up all lost time will be the responsibility of the student.
Step Three
If the appeal is not settled, the student may submit a written request within (2) days to meet with the Superintendent-Director.
Step Four

School Facility
The Greater Lowell Technical School is located at 250 Pawtucket Blvd. in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts, just over the town/city line of Lowell in Northern Middlesex County. The facility is approximately 550,000 square feet and is sited on 79 acres of former meadows and farmland.
The Post-Secondary Department is located in the high school and has access to various classrooms and labs within the building for the Health Career Programs. All classrooms are equipped with the latest technologies including Smartboards and LCD Projectors. The Post-Secondary Programs have access to the resources located in the high school media services area.
Nurse Assistant Training Program - 112 hours $775.00 Instructors: Lee Ann Harmer, LPN, Greater Lowell Technical School

Nurse Assistant students will receive 80 hours of classroom instruction and 32 hours of hands-on clinical experience in local long-term care facilities under the supervision of our experienced nurses/instructors. This course will prepare the student to obtain the necessary knowledge and clinical skills to pass the Department of Public Health requirements for certification. There will be 4 clinical days scheduled, which will occur on weekend days. Class is limited to the first 16 applicants who successfully pass the pretest and CORI reports. A grade of 70 or above must be obtained to pass the course and be awarded a certificate of competition.
Students must pass a reading comprehension and math pretest. The test will be administered on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 6 PM at the Greater Lowell Technical High School. The cost of this pretest is $25.00 which is non-refundable and is not part of the tuition. Registration must be completed prior to test date. Tuition must be paid by September 20th.
***Proof of immunizations and a negative T/B test is required.
***Uniforms will be required as an additional student cost.
***All students are required to provide their own transportation to and from the clinical site.
****Textbook will be provided during the first night. The cost of this package is included in the tuition.
