S
OCIAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCES Living and working with otherpeople, in multicultural environments, in positions where communication is important and situations where teamwork is essential (for example culture and sports), etc.
Always worked with teams. At NHTV I am coordinating a team of researchers/educators. Much of my work has been in multi-disciplinary projects and since 1987 I have been project leader in most projects I was involved in. Main challenge often is to ensure researchers from different disciplines (technical, social, economic) understand each other, cooperate and stay involved. Since 2000, my work has become mainly international.
Since 2002, I am mounting experience with education and am now responsible for a minor (Sustainable Business Development in
tourism&transport), and annual contributions to the European Tourism Master and the Destination Management Master, all at NHTV.
O
RGANISATIONAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCES Coordination and administration of people, projects and budgets; at work, in voluntary work (for example culture and sports) and at home, etc.As a project leader and freelance consultant since 1995, I have experience in all required administrative and financial skills. Further I am active member of the Dutch Association of Environmental Professionals in the Transport and Environment Working Group. At NHTV, I am responsible for research and externally acquired projects. I also have final responsibility for a minor course Sustainable Business Development and for the BSc Tourism course Environment & Tourism. The BScis a joint project between NHTV and Wageningen University and Research.
T
ECHNICAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCES With computers, specific kinds ofequipment, machinery, etc.
The leitmotiv in my work has been building policy relevant scenarios, generally rooted in knowledge from environmental sciences,
technology, social science and economics. Some of these projects have been rather influential, like the 2004 study on European tourism, transport and environment. I am able to write computer programmes in Algol and Fortran (and higher level languages like Mathcad), expert in Office applications, including VBA macro programming and can handle SPSS and system dynamics modelling software like Powersim and Vensim.
O
THER SKILLS AND COMPETENCES Competences not mentionedabove.
Member of the High Level Group of IRU. Member of the Criteria Review Group of Travelife. Contributing author to the forthcoming IPCC AR5. Member of the ICAO/CAEP CO2 working group 3. Former
member of the Dutch Environmental Assessment Commission as transport expert. Organiser of several international scientific
conferences (2006, 2009, 2012). Reviewer for Environmental Impact Assessment Review, Global Environmental Change, Tourism and Hospitality: Planning & Development, Tourism management, Annals of Tourism Research, Energy Policy, Sustainable Tourism, Sustainability, Tourism Geography, Transport reviews, Carbon Management,
