PENITENTIAL ACT (Confiteor)
I confess to Almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters that I have greatly sinned
in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;
Therefore I ask blessed Mary everͲVirgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.
Mass Program
OPENING HYMN: “Praise To The Lord”
1. Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the king of crea'on! O my soul, praise him, for he is your health and salva'on!
Come, all who hear: Now to his altar draw near, Joining in glad adora'on!
2. Praise to the Lord, who shall prosper our work and defend us; Surely his goodness and mercy shall daily a/end us.
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do, Who with his love will befriend us.
GLORIA
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.
We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you,
we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King, God, Almighty Father.
Lord Jesus Christ, Only Bego$en Son,
Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,
you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.
For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.
LITURGY OF THE WORD
First Reading: Wisdom 6:12Ͳ16
Responsorial Psalm: R. My soul is thirsng for you, O lord my God.
Second Reading: 1 Thessalonians 4:13Ͳ18 Gospel: Ma/hew 25:1Ͳ13
NICENE CREED
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Bego$en Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, bego$en, not made, consubstan*al with the Father; Through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salva*on (bow) He came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pon*us Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried, and rose again
on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one bap*sm for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrec*on of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST
INVITATION TO PRAYER
Priest: Pray, brethren, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the Almighty Father.
May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands, for the praise and glory of his name,
for our good and the good of all his holy Church.
PREFACE ACCLAMATION (Sanctus)
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
LORD’S PRAYER
LAMB OF GOD (Agnus Dei)
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.
INVITATION TO COMMUNION
Priest: Behold the Lamb of God; behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.
COMMUNION HYMN: “Those Who See Light”
1.Those who see light can walk in the dark. Those who see love can see God. Those who look up will discover God's face,
Those who look down will uncover God's path,
Those who perceive God is here with us now will see God's return.
2.Those who see light can walk in the dark. Those who see love can see God. Those who have witnessed the sun rise and set,
Those who have studied a flower unfold, Those who have
focused on land, sea, and sky have seen Jesus Christ.
3.Those who see light can walk in the dark. Those who see love can see God. Those who see good in each person they meet,
Those who look a8er their neighbors in need,
Those who believe God's now living in them will see God's return.
ANIMA CHRISTI (Prayer Aer Communion)
Soul of Christ, sanc%fy me. Body of Christ, save me. Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O Good Jesus, hear me. Within your wounds hide me. Separated from you, let me never be.
From the evil one protect me. At the hour of my death, call me,
And close to you bid me that with your saints I may be praising you for ever and ever. Amen.
PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH FOR THE WORLD DURING THE OUTBREAK OF CORONAVIRUS
To you, O blessed Joseph, do we come in our tribula%on, and having implored the help of your most holy Spouse, we confidently invoke your patronage also.
Through that charity which bound you to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God and through the paternal love with which you embraced the Child Jesus, we humbly beg you graciously to regard the inheritance which Jesus Christ has purchased by his Blood, and with your power and strength to aid us in our necessi%es.
O most watchful guardian of the Holy Family, defend the chosen children of Jesus Christ; O most loving Father, ward off from us every contagion of error and corrup%ng influence; O our most mighty protector, be kind to us and from heaven assist us in our struggle with the power of darkness.
As once you rescued the Child Jesus from deadly peril, so now protect God's Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity; shield, too, each one of us by your constant
protec%on, so that, supported by your example and your aid, we may be able to live piously, to die in holiness, and to obtain eternal happiness in heaven.
Amen.
CLOSING HYMN: “Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory”
1. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath
are stored; He hath loosed the fateful lightning of his terrible
swi8 sword; His truth is marching on.
Refrain: Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.
2. In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in his bosom that transfigures you and me;
As he died to make us holy, let us die that all be free!
FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK —NOVEMBER 8, 2020
Holy Ghost like most parishes relies on fund
raising
activities to supplement the regular income needed to keep
the ship afloat. Our Men’s Club, Women’s Club, Jamboree
Committee and “Game On” Committee have all done great
jobs to make this happen. Unfortunately, in this “Covid
19
Year” none of this has been possible since late winter /
early spring.
I was recently informed that we will not be having the
Turkey Dinner and the Men’s Club will have to cancel the
“HUSKER NIGHTS” we were all prepared to enjoy.
That’s the
BAD NEWS
.
The
GOOD NEWS
(as I once heard it was said by a
very wise old pastor addressing his congregation) is that
WE HAVE THE MONEY!
There is a small problem,
though
. IT IS STILL IN YOUR POCKETS!
So, what I am asking is that, no matter if your parish is
Holy Ghost or St. Stanislaus, all do their part to dig a little
deeper when you make your contributions to the parish.
This should certainly help defray the losses.
Another unfortunate reality is that many people who
would come to Mass regularly did not have envelopes.
That’s usually because they don’t want anyone to know
how much or how little they give. That’s fine; it’s their
decision. But, since many have stopped coming to Mass
their contributions have dried up too.
It is an unfortunate situation, but I trust in your
generosity.
At the end of the Nicene Creed (which we recite at
Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligaon) we state,
I
believe in the resurrecon of the body and life
everlasng.”
Every November we begin the month with a
focus on the Church as the “communion of saints.”
The
communion of saints
is the Church.
But we must always remember that the Church is not
merely the gathering of the faithful on earth (tradionally
called
the Church militant
)
but that we are perpetually
united with the blessed in heaven
(the Church triumphant)
as well as with the souls in Purgatory (
the Church
suffering)
. The
CATHOLIC CATECHISM
teaches us that this
“communion” is a: 1.)
Communion in the faith
received
from the apostles; 2.)
Communion of the sacraments
which unite us to Jesus Christ and to one another. Above
all the sacraments the Eucharist is the highest example of
this important spiritual bond. The
CATECHISM
also lists
the
3.)
Communion of charisms
because the Holy Spirit
“distributes special graces among the faithful of every
rank” for the building up of the Church”
(n. 951) and the
4.)
Communion in charity
. “This ‘union’ means the least of
our acts done in charity redounds to the profit of all. Every
sin harms this communion (n. 953).”
The Church Triumphant
is composed of the saints and
angels in heaven. The saints who once lived among us on
earth have gained their eternal reward and it cannot be
taken from them. Keep in mind that the word
“saint”
comes from the Lan word
“sanctus”
meaning
“holy.”
In
Revelaon 21:27 we read,
“Nothing unclean will enter
[heaven], nor any[one] who does abominable things or
tells lies.”
A soul must be in the state of complete holiness
to be given entrance into heaven. This means that the
stain of all sin must be cleansed, temporal punishment due
to sin sasfied and there be no a=achment to sin.
The Church Suffering
is composed of the souls in
purgatory. They are in the process of atoning for their sins
before they can enter heaven. There is nothing more they
can do on their own behalf. They rely on the prayers and
suffrages of the members of the Church on earth.
The Church Militant.
We, the living on earth, compose
the Church Militant. We are called to be vigilant in the
struggle to keep our souls free from sin.
A Great Network of Prayer
We members of the
“Communion of Saints”
help one
another through prayer and the merits of good works.
The
Blessed in Heaven
can help those in purgatory and on
earth by praying for them.
We, the living members of the
Church on earth
, are called to honor the saints in heaven
and pray to them and imitate their virtues.
The souls in purgatory
pray to the angels and saints
and
they pray for us, the living.
They cannot merit
anything for themselves.
The members of the Church on earth
can help relieve
the sufferings of the souls in purgatory though our prayers,
fasng, good works and by having Masses offered for
them. Saint Augusne said, “
Prayer is the key by which
we open the gates of heaven to the suffering souls.”
We
members of the Church on earth also help one another by
performing the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.
The reality of the
“communion of saints”
can bring us
great consolaon knowing that when our loved ones die,
they are not separated from us forever. Whether they are
in heaven or purgatory they sll love us and pray for us.
