In April, the Annual Meeting was held to elect officers for the Southeastern Michigan Roofing Contractors Association (SMRCA) and the Roofing Industry Promotion Fund (RIPF) for the May 2014– April 2015 term. In July, the Michigan Roofing Contractors Association (MiRCA) met to elect the officers for the August 2014-August 2015 term. Congratulations and thank you for volunteering your time to help administer the Associations.

Born July 18, 2014 Effective September 1, 2014, the

State of Michigan will increase their minimum hourly wage rate for both tipped and non-tipped employees. For non-tipped employees, the minimum hourly wage rate will increase from $7.40 to $8.15. For tipped employees, the minimum hourly wage rate will increase from $2.65 to $3.10.

Join Roofers Union Local No. 149 for the Labor Day Parade down Michigan Avenue followed by a picnic. The festivities begin before the parade with coffee, juice and donuts at 8:00 am at the Union Hall, 1640 Porter St., Detroit, MI 48216.

The Detroit Roofers & Waterproofers Training Center is proud to announce that all first year apprentices must hold an OSHA 10 Hour card to advance to the second year of their training. Resort in Thompsonville, MI—July 24-27, 2014.

The convention started with a Welcome Reception on Thursday evening followed by the Garwood Hospitality Suite hosted by Marc Garwood, Garwood, Buda, Knight and Associates, catching up with new and old friends, networking and having fun. Thank you Marc! Friday’s educational seminar

was presented by the Midwest R o o f i n g C o n t r a c t o r s Association (MRCA) “Meet the MRCA”. Steve Little, Bob

Schenkel, Tracey Donels, Larry Marshall, Randy Adams and Jim Huntington were on hand to discuss what the MRCA is and what it has to offer: education, legal, business management, safety, safety awards, technical and research, young contractors council, contractor membership, associate membership and their annual conference. Thank you to Patrick Casey, T.F. Beck Company, for organizing the euchre tournament on Friday evening.

Saturday’s educational seminar was presented by Crystal Mountain— ”Brewing Up Success”. In the evening, a Cocktail Reception was held with the Detroit Circus entertaining the group with a stilt walker, balloon animals, juggling, acrobatics and fire twirling.

The kids also enjoyed a program of their own held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Hiking, crafting, laser tag, rock wall climbing, swimming at the water park, movie and popcorn and more!

Good times and memories were made by everyone in attendance! We are looking forward to the 50th MiRCA Convention to be held at Grand Traverse Resort—July 23-26, 2015 — Mark your calendars!!
