2.0 BACKGROUND

3.0 POSITION SUMMARY
This is a full-time position within the AIC’s head office to assist in the execution of the AIC Market Research Service as well as to assist in the delivery of AIC’s Commercialisation and Consultancy services.
This position is very much a hands-on role which would ideally suit a self-motivated, energetic and well organised individual with strong communication and research skills.
AIC Market Research Service
The AIC’s Market Research Service capability is utilised in a variety of ways to drive innovation, collaboration and commercialisation in Australia.
The service is offered on a fee for service basis and is delivered to a wide range of clients which includes government agencies, research organisations, universities, commercialisation offices, large corporation organisations, SMEs, start-up companies and inventors. The service is also used to enhance AIC’s delivery of programs to industry as well as provide a foundation for AIC’s policy work through supporting AIC staff with technology and market researching assistance.
The Market Research aspect of the role involves operation in all aspects of the AIC’s research service: business development/client relations, quotation, proposal, tender and bid management, project execution and report writing and contract/project management.

AIC’s Commercialisation Advisory service assists organisations with ideas, technology or intellectual property by providing advice, support and tools to attain valuable outcomes.
The AIC also provides customised advice for a wide range of other needs including IP policy, IP audits, commercialisation strategies, project management and program design assistance to government around the world. The AIC has a strong track record and extensive commercialisation experience both in Australian and overseas.
The Consultancy aspect of this role, in the context of the AIC, can include a wide range of activities such as commercialisation planning, IP Auditing, opportunity analysis, education, innovation management, surveys, business planning, capital raising and public-sector policy development.
4.0 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Market Research Analyst will work closely with various members of the team to perform duties and responsibilities below. Note that a large proportion of the work involves investigating, collecting and writing research and commercialisation reports for both internal and external clients.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
MARKET RESEARCH
Performance of market research activities in accordance with the various Service options. This will involve “hands-on” sourcing, analysing, interpreting and presenting of market information to meet AIC client needs
Writing high quality reports to convey the market research information and findings to meet AIC client needs
Maintenance of search protocols for the Service in consultation with senior AIC staff
Development and maintenance of content for the Service’s research library

In co-operation with AIC team members, the Market Research Analyst will work closely with clients to design practical solutions to assist them in achieving the business and commercialisation objectives. The nature of this work is highly variable and will require you to be highly motivated and flexible.
The activities will include:
Preparation and presentation of quotations and proposals to prospective clients
Development of relationships with AIC clients and prospective clients
Delivery of commercialisation service and reports
Managing and coordinating various projects
Business development in identifying new consultancy opportunities for the organisation
5.0 SELECTION CRITERIA
Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Personal Qualities
The selection criteria below have been developed to reflect the purpose and duties required of this role. Short listing and later assessment will be based principally on these criteria.
SC1 Research and Analytical Skills
Demonstrated ability to independently conduct research and research related activities. Demonstrated ability to collate and analyse data from various sources, with high attention to detail. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and relevant computer applications
Demonstrated ability to produce high quality reports for external clients.
SC2 Time and Resource Management
Demonstrated ability to plan and manage resources efficiently in consultation with Senior Management.
Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and deliver resources within required timeframes, particularly in the context of multiple changing tasks.

SC3 Communication and Negotiation Skills
Demonstrated ability in written and interpersonal communication skills and negotiating abilities to consult with public and private sector stakeholders to achieve corporate objectives and to provide client satisfaction.

Proven ability to work within a professional team environment to achieve tangible outcomes in a complex environment.
SC5 Understanding of Research / Commercialisation
A general understanding of the nature and importance of research in Australia and of commercialisation and technology diffusion concepts.
6.0 QUALIFICATIONS
Relevant undergraduate degree (business, science, applied science, engineering).
Relevant postgraduate degree(s), complementary to undergraduate qualifications (business, science, engineering, management, technology commercialisation) (desirable)
Other relevant professional development (desirable)
7.0 ORGANISATIONAL ENVIRONMENT
The AIC operates as an independent, not-for-profit organisation headquartered in Brisbane Technology & Conference Centre, Brisbane Technology Park (BTP), 1 Clunies Ross Road, Eight Mile Plains. In addition, the AIC has established nodes in Victoria and South Australia through its TechFast program.
The AIC has a dynamic, high quality team of 23 executive, operational and administrative staff.

8.0 REPORTING ARRANGEMENTS
The position reports to the Director Commercialisation.
9.0 LEVEL OF SUPERVISION
Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team, and contribute to the work of the company to achieve target outcomes whilst demonstrating initiative.
10.0 REMUNERATION AND EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
Due to the rapidly changing business environment in the commercialisation sector, the nature of the role and its reporting relationships may change from time to time.
A remuneration package will be offered commensurate with the level competencies and experience necessary for this role.
